It can be similar at any off leash dog park you go to. We normally go to the one in Penrith which is great at certain times of the day. Some days its a lot of calm dogs and other times it heaps of big dogs that rumble too hard with my Frenchie (I know my Frenchie encourages it). So we dont stick around depend on what dogs are there and how busy it is.

Agreed with Minimax. Took my frenchie there for the first time last weekend and it was the best. I highly recommend it!

WOW that video is an eye opener!! I havent done this test with my Frenchie yet but I certainly know what she will do. She is a very confident and extremely independent dog who now I know doesnt like to be patted unless she is being sooky or is tired. She is still quite young and would prefer to play than get patted. When I give her pats, she does the head turn but sits there and accepts the pat. I now know she is doing it because she thinks she has to because she is quite obedient and I was giving her a good pat thinking she was enjoying it. Thanks for posting that! Its very interesting.

That is certainly strange… He looks so much better in that last photo! You did a great job of tidying him up!

AWWW he is just adorable!

Be persistent and VERY patient. Puppies will put up a struggle and will keep doing it if you let them. My dog is short haired but still needs daily brushes to decrease the shedding, but when she was a little puppy, we would hold her and gently brush her in short bursts to get her used to the brush. She was always trying to eat the hairbrush and didnt want to let us brush her. Once she was used to the brush and realised it wasnt one of her toys to chew on, we introduced food in the process to get her stand still a bit longer each time. Because she was comfortable with the brush, she was happy to eat and the food kept her distracted long enough to get a decent brushing. Now we dont need food, we can gently hold her collar so she knows not to walk away and now she is happy to let us brush her.

I think you are being too hard on yourself – its training you as much as its training the pup. Remember the pup is still only 4 months old and still working themselves out. As previously said, build on your relationship with the pup. Sounds like you are dedicated to get the training right which is fantastic. Don’t give up! :D

we do that too.. it works well!

Help, The Beagle Got Into The Freezer

Glad to hear your house is Beagle proof! Although it’s a bit strange that someone would have a dog for 2 years and then give it away because it done something naughty! Sounds like the beagle is better off with your family! -

The squealing thing never worked with my pup – it just made her more excited. Same with growling at her. The thumb under the tongue method sort of worked but wasn’t entirely effective. Sometimes she thought it was part of the game. The thing that worked the best for my pup is whenever she was mouthing and getting carried away being silly, I would pick her up and take her into another room and close the door so she is in there by herself to demonstrate to her that the playtime is over and she is not to be mouthing people. The room is empty so there is nothing she can destroy. I give her about 30 seconds to a minute. Then let her back out again. As soon as I started doing this, she has stopped mouthing almost all together. She has quickly realised that biting and mouthing will end up with her being in a room by herself which she didn’t like. She is a Frenchie so she is particularly stubborn but quite smart. It took a bit of trial and error to work out what would get the message across to her.

OMG thats scarey! you would think nothing wrong with doing them around the same time. I wonder what the toxic combination was?

Agreed, the Griffons are just the cutest little things!!

I might have missed if this was said already but how much training do you do with her each day. I agree with the person who said it previously, doing some short but frequent training sessions might help keep her mentally stimulated a bit more. You said she is not food motivated - do you know what movitvates her? affection? toys?
-
When it comes to Frenchie’s being low energy, I think I have the exception to the rule! Mine is always out the back playing with her toys, full of energy, will run around the yard doing zoomies until we stop her. She is like a Labrador in a Frenchie’s body. We have to spend a lot of time keeping her mind active with training and playing with her and taking her for short walks (as she is only 8.5 months old). I know puppies are very active generally so not sure if she will calm down a lot as she gets older or just a little bit. Hehe Mind you, she could live in an apartment, but I know she will go a little stir crazy. They are smart little things and need to be challenged mentally with training.

I was thinking the same thing... -
I have seen my dog eat her own poo so no sloppy kisses or sharing cutlery/plates with her.. hehe She can be quite gross sometimes..

My frenchie is notorious for stealing any type of footwear. She doesnt chew them, she steals them the moment they are off your feet and walks just far enough away to try to get you to chase her. We of course tell her to drop it and she does. But its annoying when I am wearing slippers, I take them off to lay on the couch and she stealthily picks them up and the goes stands in front of the TV to show me she has it.

the dog must have been so bored!

I was thinking the same thing! so funny!

Love it!! I can related to quite a few of those things.

way to spoil the fun and point of the whole thing... :p

Excuse my ignorance but what is TOTW? I went to Petbarn the other day and they had a lady there promoting Nutro Natural Choice dog food. Has anyone got any feedback/reviews for Nutro Natural Choice?
