  1. Thanks! I tried to take action shots. :) thats her pink water bucket in the background.. you can just see the top corner of it.
  2. Corvus - those are some really cool tricks you have Erik doing! thats so awesome! we havent taught Ruby anything like that, she knows the basics eg roll over, high five etc. Is it hard teaching them more complicated tricks like that? Raineth - That certainly would be a sight to see a Great Dane on a skateboard! I would imagine they would be all legs! I do have video footage of Ruby boarding but its on my phone so not sure how to upload it? Let me see if I can work it out as i have never tried before. :)
  3. I dont normally post in the main forum, but wanted to share my Frenchie, Ruby's new trick she learnt over the weekend... How to skateboard! She absolutely loves it! We hardly had to teach her anything, she jumped right on it like a natural and can push herself about. Although she does need a little bit of a push when she gets stuck. Plus she likes to chew on the board a bit but thats okay.. Does anyone elses dog do out of the ordinary tricks?
  4. I live in Penrith and it was sooooo hot out there! I left work early to get home to my Frenchie who was inside the house which was cool. We have air con but couldnt lock her inside all day. But leaving work early was a struggle because its a 25 minute car ride and my car has no air con, it felt like it was 55 degrees in my car! It was torture! Was so glad to get home and get inside the house!
  5. I have been told its a release of energy, it is when the dog resigns itself into a deeper state of relaxation. A dog can be playing and really excitable, and then is instructed to stop play. But their mind is still excited the the sigh is a release of that energy in order to calm down. Similar to the OP's situation, the dog was in an excitable state of mind, was told to go to their mat, and the sigh is to relax their state of mind and become less excited. I dont know if I explained that well. My dog trainer explained it a lot better to me.
  6. This is what I did with my pug too, but it's easier with a smaller dog. I don't know how big GSP's are at that age and if they are easy to carry, but if you can take them out and about without them being on the ground it's still a good experience for them. Good point, we have a Frenchie so easy to carry as well. But yes, a GSD would be a bit harder to carry depending on their size.
  7. We took our pup to puppy school classes at 9 weeks of age but we carried her in and out of the puppy school classes so she didnt have contact with other dogs other than those puppies in the same class (who were also at the same stage of vaccinations/age). As for getting her out and about, we took her outside the house but carried her for the most part or stayed in the car with her for car trips. So she still got the exposure to sounds, smells, sights, but at a distance just to be safe until after her 12 weeks vaccincations. We are in a low risk area, but still we were careful about putting her on the ground in 'high traffic' areas of where other dogs and people were. she would stay on our lap or be carried for most of the time being outside the house/yard. She is a very well socialised dog now, very confident and happy so I am glad we exposed her to the outside world early in a safe way. Obviously what we did was not risk free but we were consious of the risks and managed them appropriately.
  8. My 11 month old Frenchie, Ruby, has just recently started humping our legs when she is bored and wants to play and has tried all other methods to try to get us to entertain her. We defintley do not encourage it and command her her to stop but its pretty funny because she works herself around your leg like a stipper humping a stripper pole. we are often telling her "Off" while in fits of laughter just because of her method of humping. I know its a phase and she is doing it to get our attention.
  9. mine LOVES bananas, mangos, strawberrys, rasberries, carrots, actually she loves most fruit & vegies..
  10. My Rotti passed a year and a half ago and I decided to get him cremated. He was done through Pets at Peace and he came in a nice wooden box with a thing on the top where you can slot a photo into it. We have him sitting on top of the TV unit in our loungeroom next to photos of close friends and family and I have laid his check chain collar on the top of it. Gosh, I am getting teary just writing this and its been a year and a half! I am very sorry for your loss!
  11. The price has been taken off the trading post ad - how much were they going for?
  12. Ruby playing with the hose last week on the 40 degree day...
  13. Ruby gets a lot of nicknames.. some are: Rubes Boobs Boobies Rue Puby Noodle Nutbag There are a tonne more, funnily enough, she answers to most.
  14. Agreed, an older dog would be easier and an fabulous introduction to life with a dog. Plus you would be giving an older dog a second chance. Also, puppies are HARD WORK! I have a very stubborn Frenchie going through adolecense at the moment.. She is like having a teenage daughter that likes to make as much mess as possible! Even with her daily walks! But in saying that, they are very smart and low on activity level.
  15. my Frenchie is afraid of her harness. I have had her since 8 weeks old so not sure why. She is fine if I pick up her leash, but the moment I go near her harness she runs away and even wont come to me even if i have treats. She is normally extremely food motivated. So if I want to put her harness on, I have to pick her up first and then carry her over to her harness before she realises what I am doing. Another thing she is afraid of is our vertical blinds, but I know why. When she was 9 weeks old, one of her toys rolled under the vertical blinds, and before I could stop her she tried to get the toy out, got herself tangled in the string at the bottom and freaked out because she couldnt get out. Now if one of her toys roll under the blinds she will stand there and stare at it until I get it out for her.
  16. what a great idea for a thread!! Such a happy theme! LOVE IT!
  17. OOHH that does look like a lot of fun! Thanks for clearing that up! I have no idea if my Frenchie can swim but she LOVES water (chasing the hose) so I know she would love that!
