  1. agreed! such a HUGE relief! They started playing a little bit last night and it took away so much of my anxiety that the older dog would not warm up to her. So happy they are starting to get along. The tricky part will now be making sure that Mila doesnt harras Ruby to play more than Ruby would like to.
  2. Thanks all! I realise I should have been looking in this thread more often, I absolutely LOVE all the puppy photos!! Mila is settling in really well and her big fur-sister is starting to get used to her and have even started playing together! (supervised of course!) Here are a few more photos..
  3. I havent had a reason to post in this thread until now. We picked a female, 8 week old Frenchie yesterday! Meet Mila! She is just the cutest thing! her ears are yet to stand up, but I am sure they will come up soonish. Either way she is gorgeous. She joins our 2 year old Frenchie Ruby, who is having to do some significant adjusting being no longer the only fur-child. Meeting Ruby: At her new home:
  4. we've used the scalibor tick collar since our pup was 8 weeks old. He's 9.5 months now and I'm yet to see a single tick. We have lots of possums, and bushy areas, and he goes to the dog park a lot, so I figure it's being fairly effective. We're definitely not complacent though. Thanks Aliwake!
  5. This may be a silly question and out of curiosity, I am guessing there is a minimum age for flea/tick treatment for dogs? what do you do about the younger puppies (eg Approx 12 weeks old)? Is there a safe method of preventing ticks on puppies. i would be hesitant to put the advantix on them?
  6. I agree it happens, I had a Rotti that was chipped as a puppy, he was very healthy and didnt need a vet visit for around 11 years until arthritis started to get to him. But at 11 years old, the Vet tried to scan for his chip and couldnt find it anywhere on him. I had to convince them it was there as I know he was chipped but they kept asking me if I was sure. Of course I was sure! But after much scanning, we never found the chip.. I think it moved to his insides somewhere.
  7. I would give the dog back. It is a very hard lesson not microchipping the dog, but they had it for 7 years.. its their family. As said by others, raises questions why the pet-sitter didnt say anything or if they did, why didnt anyone ring around at the pounds as I am sure they would have if they knew their dog was missing. If I were the new owner, I would give the dog back (on the condition the old owners paid me the adoption fees I incurred) as the dog already has a good home, then adopt a different dog from the pound who is in need of a forever home.
  8. How scary!! Poor Harry, glad he is okay now!
  9. As people have said previously, dog parks are not for all dogs. I take my girl to the dog park because she is a well behaved dog who loves socialising with other dogs. We dont live near friends who have dogs she can play with so we take her to the dog park and she has the best time playing with the other dogs. 99% of the time its all good experiences. There has been the odd occasion where there have been an minor incident but these are quickly dealt with by the owners and if I call her away, she follows me. So it just depends on the dog... For us, dog parks are great.
  10. Thats not too far from where I live... will try to bring my Frenchie down.. Different type of bully, but still will be nice to get my girl out. :)
  11. Got a frenchie and would like non-shedding and also Frenchie farts! My girl can do some stinkers at the most inappropriate times! Last night she got a bath and farted while her bum was near my face when I was drying her.. It was so gross the air felt thicker..
  12. Sares, aren't this human meds? Are they safe for canine consumption? I was told not to use human meds on dogs so I'm curious now with the anti hestimine Yes these are human meds. I definitely would NEVER give her any meds unless directed by the vet. Our vet gave us an information sheet on all the different types of antihisthamines and dosages we can try for her and we follow the dosages exactly.
  13. Always ask the Real Estate first. Let them know what kind of dog you are planning to get, if you intend it to be inside or outside and be totally up front and honest BEFORE getting the dog. They will usually get you to sign a pet contract that has things such as if the dog destroys something, you replace it and to get the house bug/flea sprayed when you move out. You dont want to get the dog only to find out you are not allowed to have it, causing you to have to get rid of the dog or move out.
  14. Me & my family have a wide variety of dogs throughout my life from GSD, Poodle, Terrier, mutts of various sorts, Rotti and my current is a Frenchie. Although have fallen in love with Frenchies and will likely get another one.
  15. I have a frenchie who is 20 months old who has recently developed allergies. I think (and hoping) hers are seasonal, but being so young its hard to tell. I had her on Zyrtec for a few weeks and that didnt really make a difference. Then Claryntine for another few weeks, that didnt do anything at all. I now have her on Telfast which is make having some difference but still not 100%. But our Vet said trial the different antihistamines for a few weeks each until we find something that works for her long term. I suspect this will need to be an ongoing treatment for the rest of her life. But her allergies do not seem as bad as your Frenchies. mine has itchy feet and sometimes itchy ears which makes me think its from running on the grass. Maybe for yours it might be something other than grass? could it be something in their diet? I hope you find an solution to your frenchie's condition! Sounds like one thing is triggering off a whole bunch of other things.
  16. This is just a beautiful story... When you adopt rescue dogs, you always try to guess what kind of life they lived before you. This is a story of someone who found out... Warning - this may make you cry... Link to story
  17. I agree with cassie, your pup is at the stage where she needs to do some serious training & be mentally stimulated - this requires a lot of time & effort. If you return her to her breeder, she will bond very quickly to a new owner, & you will have no pressure to get your life straightened out within a time limit. Who knows what will happen economically with this new government? You may not be in a position to take her back in 12 months...... then what? EFS! I agree with taking her back to the breeder to be rehomed. A year is a long time in dog years and by the time you can take her back, she would have bonded considerably with the foster carer and taking her back will disrupt her life as she would need to form another bond with you. And having the time limit of a year is not 100% guaranteed and you shouldnt have to worry about a dog with everything else that is going on in your life by the sounds of it. It sounds like its best for all if the pup is rehomed IMHO.
  18. If quality breeders don't advertise where "normal" people look, how will "normal" people ever find a quality dog? I doubt many people who want a pet dog would be looking through online pedigree dog ads, but they might look at gumtree/etc, so if a pedigree breeder is advertised there, perhaps they have captured someone that might have otherwise only seen ads for BYB dogs? I totally agree with you Minimax. The problem with the generic websites like gumtree or trading post is the amount of scammers and BYB who also advertise saying the dog comes with 'papers' and had vet checks etc but are often very vauge as to what these entail.\ I guess its difficult for the average person to be able to tell the difference if they dont have much to do with the dog world. Its the scammers and BYB'ers that make finding a quality dog hard to do, which is a real shame.
  19. I dont understand the concept of not leaving mobile numbers? I get it costs a tiny bit more than a landline to landline call, but we certainly have come a long way in costs of mobiles and it is very normal to leave mobile numbers as often people are not at home. Myself and most people I am friends with, dont have a landline at home and our sole phone is our mobiles. So I would have no option but to leave my mobile. I would very disppointed if a breeder didnt call me back because I left a mobile number.
  20. My Frenchie loves hers! Keeps her quiet and I much prefer to give her an antler rather than raw-hide chews. She has been chewing on her current anlter for a couple of months now. She has nearly got all the marrow out of it but is still working on it.
  21. We have boarded at Acacia Lodge a couple times for our Frenchie. Deb was always so accomodating to show us around each time we went there and make sure our girl was settled in before we left.
