  1. It makes me so angry that people like that are allowed to own a dog!!
  2. They showed an interview with the owner on Sunrise this morning. The owner said ‘the lady wasn’t killed, so its all right’ and when asked about the dog, he said oh well it was only a dog, they can get another one. He was a total moron who obviously didn’t care too much about the consequences of what happened.
  3. My Frenchie is the same.. she is inside overnight when we are home, but while we are at work during the day she is mostly outside (except for extreme weather -really hot or cold).. but she loves being out the back , even on weekends when we are at home she is usually pottering around the backyard getting up to mischeif, chewing sticks and sniffing around, occasionally coming inside to say hello to us and make sure we are stil home.
  4. I just did this quiz and my number 1 result was French Bulldog.. And guess what dog I have... A FRENCH BULLDOG! it was meant to be!

    Bitey Puppy...

Thanks W Sibs! I will give the thumb thing a go. :)
  6. I have a 7 month old female Frenchie, who is most of the time a perfect angel. Except when she gets in a naughty mood and decides that she wants to play is constantly tries to bite our hands. It’s not hard but still hurts a little bit. She doesn’t chew on anything around her house while she has been teething (she has been perfect in that respect!). Some of the methods we have used to try to stop her from mouthing our hands during play are: -Stopping play by standing up and ignoring her until she calms down. But this usually results in the moment she calms down, you sit down again and she starts biting again. -We bought that sour spray to stop dogs from chewing on stuff. We used that on our hands, I am 99% sure she actually likes the taste of it as it just encourages her. -Redirection with toys. But when she is in this mood, toys are not as fun as hands. -Redirection with food. This works as long as we have treats handy. -Put her in her crate until she calms down. But I really try my very hardest not to use her crate as a punishment. I want her to love her crate. Being a Frenchie, can be quite stubborn and persistent, but in saying that, she picked up all her training very well, she sits, lays down, shakes, rolls over, stays and walks fantastically on her lead.. she is very clever.. its just the biting we cant stop!! Its been a long time since I have had a puppy (my last dog was a Rotti who lived to 12 years old!) so I cant remember if this is a phase or something that is more serious and needs to be addressed? Anyone have other tips on stopping the mouthing during play?
  7. Poor thing! i wish her a speedy recovery! there is always broken glass around my area. It drives me crazy because I can only walk my girl at night after i get home from work so i have to be super dilligent at watching the ground because there is always broken glass around.
  8. Same here!!! My poor Rotti used to get swooped all the time!
  9. I can also vouch for the beautiful temperaments of a Rotti. I had one for 12 years and he huge, scary looking, but the most sweetest thing you will ever meet. He wouldn’t hurt a fly and loved nothing more than lots of cuddles & pats. He was a big sook never ever showed any signs of aggression. Agreed with other people here saying that Rotti’s are misunderstood.
  10. is there a fenced off area for dogs in Sydney Park? Its been years since I have been there...
  11. Your pain is so real to me.. I have tears in my eyes… I had to make the same choice as you for my Rotti last year.. he had bone cancer as well…. He was 12 years old and it still tears me up a year later thinking of it. *big hugs!* You did the right thing for your girl!! No more pain.
  12. its 1 minute from my house so most likely going to pop in to take a look around. My little Ruby is perfectly fine at being at fairs where a lot of people and dogs are, but she got spayed today so she is being puppy-sat at home to rest..
  13. Theres some good 'dog matching' quizzes on the net.. The quizzes ask you about your lifestyle and what you are looking for and tells you what dogs match with you. maybe get your famility member to try googling one and see what comes up!
  14. YIKES!! Im paranoid about ticks and I live in a very suburban area!
  15. Favourites: French Bulldogs, Rotti’s, Boston Terriers, Poodles, English Bulldogs, Great Danes, Bull Mastiffs Least Favourite: I really love all dogs but if I was forced to choose, it would be staffies.
  16. Woops! thanks! i wrote that before my coffee this morning.. Fixed!
  17. I thankfully did that.. I used to have a Rotti that expected breakfast when we woke up in the mornings and the moment I got home from work he expected dinner.. But with my new dog, I wait about 30-45 minutes after we are up, have a bit of a play and I have had a coffee before she gets breakfast.. and when I get home at night, she doesn’t get fed until after we get back from her nightly walk..
  18. Why would they be so hostile against clickers? I don’t understand how it would be a bad way of training? Does anyone know the argument against clickers? We used clicker training for our Frenchie and she picked up all her training so quickly! From my personal experience, it has been an excellent way to train my puppy by targeting the right behaviours.
  19. Hi Sydney-siders! Is anyone going to Dogs on Show on the 16th of JUNE in Luddenham? Dogs on Show Information Its 5 mins from my place so will be popping in to check it out. Edited: i put in the wrong date! woops!
  20. My OH was out for a boys night the other night, and when I was in the kitchen, my little darlin was being suspiciously quiet so I go to the lounge room to see what she was up to and I found her sitting staring at the front door. We live at a dead end in a quiet street so I am pretty sure she wa waiting for my OH to get home!
  21. OMG that is aweful! why would anyone target an innocent dog? Poor thing.
  22. The other night my Frenchie brought in a dried poo and left it in front of the TV for me to find. She loves sticks so maybe she thought it was a stick? Or maybe she wanted to make a point that I missed a poo when cleaning them up in the yard and that was her way of bringing to my attention?
  23. Oh dear!! That’s hilarious!
