Need To Find A Good Verterinary Surgeon
*kirty* replied to piperspal's topic in General Dog Discussion
Surprised that a vet would give a heartworm injection to a sick puppy. -
Does Anyone Have A Pet Who Had To Have A Leg Amputated?
*kirty* replied to Michelleva's topic in General Dog Discussion
Michelle, are you taking her to your vet or the specialist? I know the specialist is ages away from you, but I would be seeking their advice before doing anything drastic. Are you doing physio with her leg at all? Nerve problems can take a long time to resolve and it hasn't been that long since the surgery. -
I have a dog who I love but never bonded with. I know when he dies, a weight will be lifted. But he has issues and he's getting old now so I couldn't rehome him. He continues to do things that make me dislike him more and more and I admit I wish we never got him.

I had my cats on Black Hawk but one of them developed a urinary blockage so I've now gone back to Advance and Iams. I have since heard that quite a few people have had cats block on it.

I also dropped in on Monday and asked about selling pets. :) They will be supporting rescue with posters and donation tins, having cats from Animal Aide on display, having rescue promotion days, etc. The owner is also a reg'd dog breeder. :)

My Cavalier Is Sick Advice Or Ideas Please
*kirty* replied to oscamia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ask for urgent bloods. Unfortunately swollen glads and red eyes can be a sign of lymphoma. If he is now blind, he needs to go back to the vet urgently. -
I agree. There are bad eggs in everything. That's why I said' reputable'.

I really wish people would bother to read about the no kill idea before spouting rubbish about it. Reputable no-kill shelters don't offload problem dogs, or keep aggressive dogs alive for the sake of it, etc. They use foster carers and only rehome suitable dogs. No kill doesn't mean no dogs killed, it means no healthy, adoptable dog killed.

This. :) ETA: Some dogs definitely seem to 'need' leadership more than others. Take a Rotti who comes into my work who has decided that it is her role to protect the whole family from EVERYONE. Sweet as pie at home (apparently), wants to kill anyone who comes near her family when out. Owners are inexperienced and very soft on her and don't understand why she is like that. She is an accident waiting to happen but owners think she is lovely...
-
Its a hard one because as you say, you want them to alert bark. I have always told mine off for barking and now I have five large dogs and not one will bark! LOL! Its the tiny foster who raises the alarm, while the others just ignore the stranger walking down our driveway... :)

What breed of dog and how old? The best way to remove gunk is to get a warm wet facewasher or cotton ball, hold it on the area for about a minute and then wipe or comb the gunk away. You should clean his eyes regularly to prevent it building up, and perhaps wipe the lids with saline to help them dry.

Yes, my mum's Dalmatian became incontinent while taking pred for an ear infection. The vet didn't believe mum that it could be the tablets and made her get full bloods for her dog, and said it could be kidney failure or cancer!?! A day or so after stopping the pred, no more accidents.

I agree with WnH - I'd get an appointment to see the vet that missymoo recommends at Werribee.

Building Towns That Are "no-dog-zones"
*kirty* replied to bdierikx's topic in General Dog Discussion
LOL yes, lets bulldoze enough bushland to build houses for 40,000 people and then ban dogs who might hurt all the koalas who are now wandering around the streets because their trees were cut down... -
I have a shear magic battery trimmer. Cheap, quiet, does the job. Very short cut though.

I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Toasty

If she has been sore on the non-surgery leg, it could be due to the strange gait caused by favouring the surgery leg. If that makes sense!

Sounds like you are making good progress. :) -
Haha love the second pic!

One of mine used to eat dirt as a pup. She grew out of it thankfully. She had a good diet, I think it was just a game for her.

All of my dogs are desexed and none are overweight. Dogs can't open cupboards or fridges, owners make them fat.
