  1. I call myself 'no kill' because I don't PTS rehomable animals. I will, and have, PTS animals that are not suitable for rehoming due to health or temperament. I think the idea of no kill is good unless people take it too literally.
  2. Sorry Mac seems to have hit a road block. The Vivitonin stopped working for Maisie too. I have now got Maisie on Gingko and Omega 3 supplements. Still trying to find a Choline supplement. Not sure if its helping yet but she certainly isnt any worse since stopping the Vivitonin and starting the new regime.
  3. They probably meant the ball sack was still there. The testicles are removed but the sack remains. Sometimes it can look like the testicles are still there because of swelling.
  4. I wonder if the suture could have stretched or come undone? Glad to hear she is doing well on the pain relief. :)
  5. That really is appalling and I agree that you should be reimbursed by the specialist for your vet visit today.
  6. I'm so sorry Ripley. She was a beautiful little dog. RIP Millie
  7. Far out, that is like clipper burn, not just a rash! That looks nasty. What about some aloe vera after sun spray? Should be soothing and cool.
  8. I've had lots of girls, mostly desexed. I have never had pyo before desexing, or any incontinence problems since desexing. Had one foster girl rescued from a puppy farm at approx 6yrs with multiple mammory tumours. Had a mammory strip (what an awful surgery that is ) and still going strong now at approx 12yrs ols.
  9. I've had a female cat and a male dog rip out all their desexing sutures. I have had hundreds of animals desexed and I don't always get a cone, but first sign of licking/chewing and on it goes.
  10. My standard poodle has just come in for the first time too - she is 20mths old though! She has been quite messy, lots of blood - yuck! I will get her desexed in a few months.
  11. Yep, definitely agree that a permit would be the way to go. Trish, I completely understand why people hate foxes. I would hate any animal that killed my pets. But I can seperate the two - eg I have pet rats which I love, but I HATE the wild rats that come over from next door and have no problem trapping them. ETA: I also think that the reason foxes will kill a dozen chooks but only eat one, or attack multiple lambs is that they are easy prey. In nature, a predator doesn't come across captive prey. They have to work for it - find it, chase it down, then kill it. But here they come across a paddock full of ewes all lambing at the same time. Or a pen full of chooks with no escape. They kill because they can, and their instincts say they should. Most dogs or cats would do the same given the opportunity.
  12. Really? I think several generations living feral = wild. Have you ever seen a feral cat? A wild dog? Doesn't take long for a domestic animal to revert to its natural state. I do think horses are easier to tame because they are prey animals.
  13. There is a place in Doveton (at Myuna Farm) but I'm not sure how much it costs. ETA: Scrap that, its been closed down sorry.
  14. Well I've given you my first-hand experience, and the anecdotal experiences of others. If you google 'fox forum' you will find lots of people who keep them as pets overseas. Many overseas breeders sell the kits at a young age so they can be tamed by their new owners. But you choose to ignore that info. You are basing your opinion on what YOU know about foxes, not all the information available. How does a pet snake benefit the community? Or a pet spider? I bet they benefit the person who owns them, because the care for/appreciate that pet. I have a pet yabby - he was taken from the wild by someone and sold to me. Does he benefit the community? I really don't understand your emphasis on community benefits. My neighbours dogs who bark all day certainly don't benefit me. Nor does my neighbours cat who sprays on my front door. Or my neighbours chooks who attract rats into my yard.
  15. The Melbourne Pet Ambulance has an emergency vet fees fund but not sure how it works. They could also try GE finance - they also have a credit/loan system for emergency vet bills.
  16. With other licensed pets, you pay a yearly fee for a permit. Wouldn't be that hard to add foxes to the database.
  17. So now I'm a tree-hugging hippy, just because I diasgree with you?? There is no evidence that selling foxes to people in suburbia WILL cause problems either. Just that some people don't like the idea. Well guess what - some people think that 'dangerous dog breeds' shouldn't be kept as pets either.
  18. You haven't answered my questions - if they are so terrible, why hasn't NSW declared them a pest? What exactly is wrong with keeping them as pets vs a dog or cat or snake etc? Why do you have your heart set on destroying a group of people doing nothing wrong???
  19. And just to clarify, that article is about someone who ADOPTED a fox, not the founder of the organisation. The ADOPTER is 23, not the person who runs the shelter.
  20. There are people in this country who already love foxes. There are also people in this country who love kangaroos, but they are routinely culled. In fact, there are lots of native species that get culled, despite people loving them - galahs, cockatoos, corellas, dingos, etc. In Tasmania, they wipe out entire forests and then bait the native animals that get left behind (possums, wallabies, etc). If they are such a pest, why are they not classified as a declared pest by the NSW government?
  21. WIW - they are completely vetworked. And as far as I know, it is already illegal to release them back into the wild. What about the damage that humans do to the environment? Or cats? According to my uni lecturer (who was perhaps one of the most knowledgeable fox people around) foxes prey mainly on rabbits. They only switch to other animals when rabbit number decrease. Humans have done far more damage to our environment than any other single species on the planet. Our ecology is already so messed up that most native animals have adapted to having foxes and cats around. People can already buy a block of land adjacent to a piece of bush or rainforest and then let their beloved kitty wreak havoc on it.
  22. See and that annoys me. Why should you care? Nobody is forcing you to own one. Why can't people mind their own business! If it doesn't affect you, leave it be!!
