  1. You'd have to be pretty unlucky to get heartworm in Victoria from what I've been told. And I guess adding $45 to every animal does add up. But how exciting!! Can't wait to see what you've got. :)
  2. Spill!! I think from memory the heartworm snap test is around $45. I've only had it done once and that number comes to mind.
  3. Wondering if anyone can recommend a worm tablet I can buy in bulk? Used to get Ambex but apparently it isn't made any more. Need an all wormer, preferably safe for cats too. Thanks. :)
  4. When my fosters had most of their rotting teeth removed a few years ago, they were munching on chicken necks with gusto within a few days. :)
  5. As an aside, who puts chewed up gum on someone's table??? That is so feral!
  6. No, I admit I have favourites. I know I shouldn't but with so many, there are a few that stand out. My old girl Maisie who was my first dog, and my cat Ginger who I hand raised from 2 days old are just super special. I do love every single one of them though and would do anything for them.
  7. Zug Zug, the reason I want to carry a stick is more to protect my small dogs. If it had been my Iggy today, she could have been killed. I try not to be anxious around other dogs but it is very hard - the last time Champa was attacked it took me a very long time to feel confident walking them again.
  8. Definitely! Champa is one of those dogs!I don't want or expect Toby to love other dogs, I just want her to be comfortable/confident around them. And Stand Poos can be prone to DA I've been told so I certainly don't want that.
  9. Agree - its totally ridiculous. That poor Goldy, no way to escape.
  10. Yes I see JRT too. :) They are going to be cute, naughty, active babies lol!
  11. Staffyluv, you're not an idiot bull breed owner!! Pailin, I felt for the little girl too and when the owner spoke to me I asked if she was ok. She had grazed hands but luckily was all rugged up for the footy so wasn't hurt anywhere else. Thanks guys, its nice to get it off my chest to people who understand how frightening and upsetting it is. As I said, this is the third times one of my dogs has been attacked in public, and each time we were minding our own business at the time. Really shakes your confidence when taking the dogs out.
  12. I can't see any hound personally, but I think they have a fair whack of Kelpie in there. :)
  13. Yes you're right TSD and I've seen it too (especially dogs who are nervous but 'find their feet' in their new home), but I find it hard to believe it didn't show any signs at all at the shelter. The way it raced over and launched into her with no provocation and no hesitation.
  14. Thanks. :) We used to go to Croydon and loved it, but unfortunately it clashes with my son's football so we haven't been for over a year. Toby has always been anxious around strange dogs (despite puppy school and trying hard to socialise her) but thankfully isn't aggressive at all. Might shoot Tamara an email. :)
  15. Very cute!! Looks like a real mix of breeds in there too.
  16. Kirislin, they said they have been taking it to 'dog school' to fix the problem. If I'd been thinking more clearly I would have told her to take it to a behaviourist. hippo, I'm surprised it slipped through the cracks. The RSPCA are normally quite tough on DA dogs. I did contemplate calling them but with all the bull breed rubbish I'm not sure what the repercussions would be.
  17. Does anyone run just socialisation classes for dogs? I want to work on Toby's confidence around other dogs, and after this morning's incident I think I should do something ASAP. Eastern suburbs of Melbourne would be ideal.
  18. Toby my Standard Poodle was attacked this morning. She is fine thankfully, but I am very shaken up. I decided to take her with us to watch my son's junior footy game. We had just gotten out of the car and were walking toward the ground when I spotted a Staffy x being held by a 3-4yo child. The dog bolted toward Toby, dragging the small child on her tummy for several metres before she let go. It slammed into Toby and just started ripping into her. I doubt she even saw it coming. It all happened so fast that I couldn't do anything to stop it. I was trying to pull Toby away and push the dog off with my foot, but then I was able to land a solid kick which got the dog off her. By this stage the owner was there and managed to grab their dog and take it away. All the kids and parents saw the whole thing happen too, so no doubt more fire for the bull breed haters. I walked off to a quiet part of the gtound and bawled my eyes out! It was so horrible and this is the third time this has happened to me and my dogs. Toby doesn't have a mark on her but she was already wary of strange dogs so who knows what this will do to her. The owner came up and apologised later and said they have just got the dog from the RSPCA and that she is 'only like this with other dogs'. I told her it was stupid to leave a small child holding a dog like that, especially when they know its DA. I told them to take it back to the RSPCA. It could have been so much worse - I was going to take my IG but thought she wouldn't enjoy sitting in the cold. That dog could have killed her. And my 5yo daughter had asked to hold Toby's lead as we got out of the car but I said no because she isn't strong enough to hold her. If Holly had been holding the lead she might have been bitten too. I am do sick of stupid people and their stupid bloody dogs. If you KNOW your dog is that DA, don't bring it to a junior footy game where lots of people bring their dogs, and don't let a small child hold the lead! I am definitely going to start carrying a stick from now on and I won't hesitate to use it.
  19. I have one dog who I never bonded with. He is 11yo now and has been destructive and hard work his whole life. He is also aloof and just not that into us. If I had my time again, I would have rehomed him many years ago. I believe pets are for life, but we have never bonded and I often wonder if he might have been different in another home? He is loved and cared for, but I don't like him.
  20. My colleague's dog had Cushings. She was treated with Trilostane and she had several happy, healthy years on the meds. She passed away last year from an unrelated issue (osteosarcoma).
  21. Canestan cream is fine for dogs. Betadine is also an antifungal.
