    Vet Bills

Its very frustrating. I work at a specialist clinic and our prices are very reasonable compared to many other specialists. And yet every day we have people complaining about the cost of specialist elective surgery. Especially love the 'but I had the same surgery and I didn't pay that much' argument. Yes, that's because human surgeries are usually subsidised by the government!
  2. What breed of dog? And how old? Are the whites of the eye red/bloodshot? What does the pupil look like? I would go and see a specialist. The clouding is most likely scarring or inflammation on the cornea (front of the eye). It sounds like an unhappy eye and is probably painful.
  3. It means that the dog is not available yet, however a local person has expressed interest in adopting it. These local interests often drop off when the dog becomes available though, so if a dog has rescue back up it is safe no matter what.
  4. And a Beagle for an elderly person? Really?
  5. Its a tablet you get from health food shops. I think you can get powder too?
  6. Our clinic researched it and decided against stocking it/recommending it.
  7. Tylosin is an antiobiotic. You also have no idea how much antibiotic is in the bottle because apparently it is made in large quantities then bottled.
  8. Its not ok, and I'm sure everyone feels sad for the dog. But I don't feel sad for its careless owners who sealed its fate.
  9. There is no reason other than neglect and maybe finances that the dog is in this state. He has been taken to the pound before but they always claim him. He is only about 4-5 years old. I agree with not grooming him, but I also don't wish to get involved with the family or get on their wrong side. I will point out his owners to hugurpup if she wants to try and get him.
  10. Are there any other symptoms? Cloudiness? Redness on the whites of her eyes? How is her vision around obstacles etc? Have they checked her blood pressure?
  11. Hehe I've been tempted to go and ask them if they would rehome him, but I doubt it would go down well.
  12. Its a bit of a sad case, but doesn't really excuse their treatment of their pets. I have no idea what happened to the Cav. She was also often out wandering and would come and visit us.
  13. Yes I know that dog. It lives on my street. It is ALWAYS out. ALWAYS. He is very friendly if you manage to catch him. I know where he lives and they don't give a sh*t about him. I have caught him a few times and taken him to the pound but they always get him out (at least he has now been chipped and desexed). They used to have a sweet little Cav too and 2 cats but they have since disappeared. ETA If you want to find it, it will be in my front yard tomorrow morning lol. You know where I live. :)
  14. I can't believe it has been two years. She really was a very special dog.
  15. Sorry about your mum. I agree with pers, fast for 24hrs and then try small amounts of cooked chicken and rice.
  16. I actually wondered if the other dog was owned by the kennels? Why would it be PTS otherwise?
  17. http://m.heraldsun.com.au/leader/west/blue-staffordshire-terrier-stolen-from-taylors-lakes-backyard/story-fngnvmj7-1226677076630 A TAYLORS Lakes family is devastated after their female blue staffordshire was snatched from their backyard. The Farrugia family said 18-month-old Jazz was playing in their backyard about 10am on Monday morning (July 8) when a man jumped over their fence and threw the pure bred over on to vacant land, before jumping back over.A neighbour's CCTV cameras captured the incident, and the footage is with Keilor Downs police.Pat Farrugia said his wife and daughter were home at the time."She (Jazz) was running free in the backyard when she was taken," he said."Our neighbours have cameras, and the footage gets a glimpse into our backyard."We're devastated, she's sadly missed, and we'll do anything to get her back."Mr Farrugia said the family feared Jazz had been stolen for breeding. "We think being stolen for breeding is highly the reason why, we paid just under $2000 for her so her pups would be worth a lot of money," he said.Stafford Rescue Victoria co-ordinator Jan Hutton said the staffordshire was the No.1 dog stolen in Australia."They have been for years," she said."People are under the impression that they are rare, so more blues are being bred."Originally blue was a rare colour, so someone started charging $2000, and people are still paying that for them but they are really worth no more than any other staffordshire."Ms Hutton said the staffordshire was a popular breed."They are the flavour, everyone wants a stafford," she said."They are called the nanny dog, because they are great with children, a fantastic family pet, and very loyal."Jazz, who weighs about 19kg, is microchipped and registered with the Brimbank Council. The incident has been reported to Keilor Downs police, who are investigating.

  20. I spent 20 mins yesterday trying to explain to a client at work why it was a bad idea to breed his crossbred dog with severe entropion... Some people just have no idea.
  21. Wow, well fed is an understatement lol! Hope they find a good home.
  22. She looks like a pigging mix or roo mix - I'm sure I can see Greyhound in there. She is very cute. :)
