  1. Cool dogs. :) We used to rent Chips The Wardog nearly every week as kids.
  2. Oh no! Im so sorry pers. He was a truly special boy. He always reminded me of my Ginger - I will give him an extra hug tonight. Sending you hugs pers xx
  3. In Victoria it is illegal for vets to reuinte lost pets with their owners. They must call the council if an animal is brought in. This has been the law for a long time but only very recently has it been enforced.
  4. She is so cute! Like a baby Pia. :)
  5. I would try short, positive sessions every day. Have the treats ready and just keep shovelling them into his mouth. Start with the clippers off and running them over his body. Ignore any reactions and keep feeding treats. Also practice picking up his feet and rewarding him (no clippers). Once he settles a bit, turn the clippers on and just clip a tiny patch at a time, rewarding him every step of the way. I think the reason he was so distressed last time was probably due to the clipper rash. Its very uncomfortable and would have made the whole process even more distressing for the dog.
  6. Why are we blaming a vet nurse? It may well have beenthe vet. If someone wants to refuse to PTS or negotiate to rehome an animal, thats fine. But to agree to PTS and then sneak an animal out the back door is reprehensible. Someone's head is going to roll at that clinic.
  7. Ive seen a crow trying to carry off a young possum. It kept picking it up by the tail and trying to fly off. I intervened and took possum to a carer. He would have been about 400g.
  8. We had a breeder come into our clinic to get testing done on their bitch who had not been tested before. The bitch was already heavily pregnant with the last batch of a very valuable and long deceased dog's semen. We found that the bitch had hereditary cataracts. Not sure what they were planning to do with the pups.
  9. The Knox shop is now called Knox Pets and is also back to selling puppies and kittens.
  10. Every time my dogs have been attacked, we were minding our own business and the attacking dog has gone out of its way to approach and attack mine. I know the difference between an aggressove dog and a friendly one, but I dont know if that friendly dog is going to become aggressive if one of mine barks or growls at it.
  11. Some people are obviously lucky enough to have never had their dogs attacked MULTIPLE TIMES. I have seven dogs at home at the moment so I walk mutiples. How do you suppose I 'just pick up' my THREE small dogs? Or just protect my TWO OR THREE medium-large dogs? I dont care if the dog is friendly, mine hate other dogs rushing at them. I now walk with a stick and will use it if another dog threatens us.
  12. But I dont want to meet offlead dogs in places where they should be onlead! My dogs dont like other dogs getting in their faces and I end up in a tangle of leads, trying to get away from the 'dog who just wants to say hi'. I dont care if its friendly, I dont want it near me! I dont go to crowded places, I walk the streets and sometimes visit the local ON LEAD parks. My dogs weigh 5-6kg. They have skin like tissue paper. They stand no chance against an attacking dog.
  13. Dogs can have alopecia for other reasons though.
  14. How big is the base? Could you tie it off?
  15. We had a Great Dane called Kanika, but we just called her Kika. :)
  16. I think those costs sound pretty normal. Good luck with your boy.
  17. I like Fame. :) Are you going to show her?
  18. I'm so sorry jules. If it makes your decision any easier, I've always found that cortisone kicks in very quickly and you start to see improvement within hours. I think you have waited long enough and if you were going to see improvements, they would have happened by now.
  19. Yay!!!! That is so exciting!!! Has she got a name yet?
  20. http://www.atlbanana.com/local-dog-owner-struggling-with-off-leash-addiction/ PIEDMONT PARK–Dog owner Mitchell Pratz, 28, has a crippling addiction. Try as he might, he cannot seem to stop himself letting his dog, Mr. Cupcake, off his leash in inappropriate circumstances. Pratz says that the addiction started innocuously enough, but has grown over the three years of Mr. Cupcake’s life.“At first it was really cute, he was a puppy, you know? Everyone loved being around him,” said Pratz. “But now he’s grown up. He sniffs, humps, and pees. Still, somehow I just can’t stop letting him off his leash.” Pratz says he visits Piedmont Park or Stone Mountain Park as much as he can, but will occasionally let Mr. Cupcake run around off leash in a smaller park if he is pressed for time.“I feel horrible every time he annoys someone. I apologize to people constantly, but I never put him back on his leash. As much as it shames me to say this, I just… I, well.. annoying the shit out of people just means too much to me.” Pratz said, breaking down into sobs. Veterinarian and canine behavioral expert Dr. Art Barksworth says he has seen this many times before.“We refer to this condition as Partially Recognized Irrritating Canine Knowledge Syndrome. Owners seem to be aware on some level that they are annoying people with their off-leash animals, but fail to give a shit.” said the doctor. His clinic offers a six week treatment program. Pratz, however, says he’s not ready to seek treatment.“I’ve admitted I have a problem. That’s enough for now. I just don’t know how I would live my life without walking behind my dog as he acts like a furry little asshole to everyone. I get a real charge out of calling his name over and over and shouting to him as if he suddenly speaks English.”
