Great news. :) Remember though, if you have any concerns to go back to the specialist ASAP.

Rehoming Naughty Dog With/without Contract?
*kirty* replied to curly's topic in General Dog Discussion
My second great dane was given to me because she had killed a sheep. She had escaped with another dog and Im guessing they got really wound up and pack mentality kicked in. When she came to me, she lived withsmall dogs, cats, rabbits and a small child and never showed any signss of aggression. As pers said, they circumstances do matter. -
I took Champa to the vet this morning due to weight loss, and a large mass has been found in his abdomen. The vet thinks it arises from his kidney, but it seems to also involve the intestine. We have done bloods and a FNA so we should know more by tomorrow. Vet has suggested that if it hasn't spread, she would like to perform a nephrectomy. Has anyone had any experience with this type of cancer or this procedure? I always thought this dog would live forever so this has all come as a bit of a shock.

Its actually pretty common in dogs unfortunately, and Cresties are one of the breeds known to get Primary Glaucoma. We see quite a few here.

You have been through so much already, don't rush into any decision. Hugs xx

Maisie is 20kg, a fair bit smaller than your boy. However she is probably a lot more active. She was quite lame and sore for the first two weeks and wason Tramadol and Rimadyl. Now she just gets glucosamine and sashas blend, and Rimadyl if she has a big day.

I'm sorry to hear about Louis. Glaucoma is a horrible disease. Hopefully the specialist has gone through all the signs to watch for that the pressure might be up - if caught early, vision can often be saved. But once the pressure has been up for 24hrs or more, its often too late.

I'm so sorry this has happened Tamara, and I'm guessing you already think you know what needs to happen now. For what its worth, seeing as he isnt allowed to be very active now anyway, you could try resting him for 6 weeks and see if it settles down. Maisie had surgery on her first cruciate but when the second one went, I opted for medical management. She can live a normal life, just have to make sure she doesn't overdo it. Mind you she spent an hour at the beach yesterday and pulled up fine.

No that is bullshit.

Would a Poodle be welcome? She has a great recall and loves to carry things in her mouth. ETA Just looked at the breed list on the website and Poos aren't on it, so I guess not. -
I buy mine on Ebay. :) I think you can also buy them from Greyhound Safety Net.

Try some cooled black tea. Tea has natural anti-inflammatory properties.

Thinking of you Jelly. I had to say goodbye to one of my dogs for behavioural reasons last year, and it really is one of the hardest decisions to make. Hugs xx RIP Roo, find Stevie and have fun playing with her at the Bridge xx

Are there really that many stray Dalmatians in Chile? Or are they breeding in his yard?

If she is already blind and it was caused by a lens lux, I would do the surgery now.

I grew up with a petshop mutt. My grandparents have always owned pedigree dogs. I currently own three pedigree dogs and two rescue mutts. I think I will always own a mixture of pedigree and rescue dogs. But there are so many breeds I want to own, definitely won't be sticking to just one breed. :)

Homecheck Needed Ferntree Gully Victoria

What breed is the dog? Have you seen an eye specialist? If she has primary glaucoma, it is highly likely that she will get it in the other eye too unfortunately. I would get her checked by a specialist before you do anything. Glaucoma is horrible and unfortunately even when the drops work, they only buy you time. Eventually the pressure gets out of control and surgery is required. If you know the other eye is going to go too, you can use drops to delay the onset. You will also know what to look for and if you pick it up in time, there is the option of laser surgery to control the pressure and save vision. Re the prosthetic, some specialists think it is less painful because the optic nerve is not cut. It is also a nicer option for dogs that need both eyes removed. Some people can't handle the thought of a dog with no eyes, and apparently other dogs can have issues with dogs with no eyes. They generally heal very quickly and have few complications. Something to remember is that the dog still has its cornea so could still get an ulcer if it happened to get a scratch on the eye.

Greencross vets are taking over here in Vic. They are a huge chain who have inflated prices yet apparently pay their nurses peanuts.

Someone had tied their dogs up outside our local supermarket the other day, which is a very busy shop. The leads were SO long that the dogs could walk around the entire entrance and people were having to step over the dogs and leads to go in or out! Honestly some people just have no idea!

I don't know why my links don't work, could be something to do with my iPhone I guess. Sorry, it does work. I was agreeing with your statement regarding the Vic govt.
