  1. When the eye is injured and becomes inflamed, the pupil constricts and is at risk of getting adhered to itself. Atropine dilates the pupil and prevents this from happening. It also helps with pain in the eye. In this case, I'm guessing the injury was less severe than your vet thought, which is why the specialist said to stop the atropine. It wasn't the wrong treatment, it just isn't needed in this case. It will go back to normal soon. :)
  2. Jolie my 5.5kg Iggy once at an entire block of chocolate and another time she stole and ate a large bag of Maltesers. She didn't even get an upset tummy! She is so naughty! It seems that some dogs are affected by only a little bit of chocolate, while others can eat a lot and be fine.
  3. None of my dogs have ever bitten or snapped at a person. A previous dog of mine attacked another dog of mine badly enough to tear skin and muscle. Other than that, none have injured another dog. My dogs have killed several doves in our yard and a few wild rats over the years. They also killed our rabbits after the rabbits escaped from their enclosure.
  4. Surprisingly his kidney function is ok, I guess the second one is working hard. But he probably has mets in his other organs.
  5. My 11.5yr old Lab x was diagnosed with renal carcinoma recently. He has a huge mass on his kidney. This type of cancer is aggressive and spreads rapidly, so we opted for palliative care. He is very skinny but still eats and plays etc. Yesterday he growled at me for the first time in his entire life. I was clipping his nails which he has never enjoyed but has always tolerated well. I'm taking this as a sign that he is feeling pretty crap. He is already taking anti-inflammatory tablets so the next step is something stronger like Tramadol. I guess my question is should I keep upping his pain meds or should I let him go? I don't want him to be in pain, and I'm not sure I should keeping giving him more meds when there is not much to be gained.
  6. On my adoption agreement I have a bit that states the animal has been vet checked and is healthy to the best of my knowledge, and that any known issues have been discussed with the new owner. It also says that the owner should have the animal checked with their own vet in the first week for their own peace of mind, and if anything is found I will take the animal back and refund them.
  7. Yes the vets at work have had a look and a feel and I've got an appointment at my local vet on Tuesday. I just wanted to hear of other people's experiences as this pup is potentially going to be rehomed. Unfortunately she has a lot of hurdles in her way, and this seems to be yet another.
  8. My newest foster pup appears to have a dermoid sinus, among many other issues unfortunately. Has anyone had a pup with this condition before? What did you do and how did it go? Thanks.
  9. Mine are usually in the boot behind a cargo barrier. Sometimes the little ones are in a crate.
  10. Currently have six dogs here. They all sleep in my bedroom, either on my bed or on their mattress next to my bed. The foster puppy sleeps in a crate next to my bed. :)
  11. I don't have a problem with greys being drained of blood before being PTS, because they are going to be PTS regardless. But I do have a problem with someone being able to drop off 5-6 dogs at a vet clinic to be PTS without a second thought. The wastage needs to be reduced.
  12. My sister has mild-average allergies to dogs and cats, and my Greyhound sets her off. My Grey is a fairly light shedder, but it does seem to vary from dog to dog. My IG sheds like a bloody Pug lol!
  13. Could he gave an obstruction or partial obstruction? Jolie stopped eating recently, and after several days she vomitted up a chewed up paddle pop stick!
  14. Scott Plummer is not an eye specialist.
  15. Happy Gotcha Day Brandi. :) Sounds like you were lucky to find each other.
  16. We say water is fine overnight, but no food after midnight. For baby puppies, we ask that they are given a small feed of wet food at about 6-7am though.
  17. We have them at work (East Malvern) and you are welcome to try them on. I think you will find your dog will hate them though.
  18. I'm in the outer eastern suburbs but I work in East Malvern. She comes to work with me sometimes. :D She is very social and loves everyone and everything. :)
  19. You'd be welcome to meet my girl. She is a big love bug! Haven't heard about the Greyhound walk but I'll look into it. :)
  20. She is eating a lot of chicken. Does she get any red meat?
  21. Champa is a target for other males too. He is quite confident in his appearance - chest out, high stepping, etc. Not sure if this pisses off male dogs? Weird how some are a target.
  22. Thanks Sal, its devastating. Unfortunately we have decided not to go ahead with surgery. I've spoken to all the vets at work and read as much as I can, and basically the success rate is low, and this type of cancer is very aggressive and spreads rapidly.
