  1. It's a joke! Most of the public will have no idea about this. Virbac was supposed to be covering the costs of rechipping, but only for a limited time apparently. It is so ridiculous!! Thinking I might contact a journo about this...
  2. So disgusting. RIP Sammi. However her owners sound bloody clueless!!! She was a known escape artist, yet had no tag or microchip. And why was she allowed to escape through the hole in the back fence?? Fix the fence!!
  3. The only dogs I've known with mammary cancer were older rescued girls from BYB or puppy farms. Last one was a Corgi x.
  4. Don't leave skyefool, and don't be embarrassed. I'm sorry if I made you feel that way, I was just worried about you. Please hang around, you don't need to have a dog to be part of this community.
  5. To clarify, is it a pound or a shelter?
  6. People will buy them and I have no problem with it. It cost me a lot of money every time I rescue an animal. And if it has an illness or needs additional surgery, etc that cost increases. If I could charge a bit more for some more desirable animals to recoup some of those costs, why not?
  7. Is anyone in contact with Skyefool? I've just read through this thread and hope all is well. Skyefool, please take care of yourself, I think you are wonderful for putting your dogs' needs before your own. Time will soon come that the sun will shine for you again :) I'm concerned about skyefool too. Please come in and let us know you are OK.
  8. My kids are having a sleepout in the family room, and Gary (foster kitten) and Jolie have joined them. :)
  9. Sorry skyefool, but good on you for realising that. Perhaps you could consider fostering until you are ready to own a pet again. Hope you are OK xx
  10. I wonder if with bitches you could have the uterus removed but leave the ovaries, like they do with women?
  11. OH MY GOSH! What a smart, greedy dog!! Look at the size of it too, fatty boomba! ETA Our friend's dog once got up onto the counter after they had been cooking, and ended up with very serious burns on his pads.
  12. From the part above it does sound as though this had been an ongoing problem as most people with multiple dogs don't get bitten by their dogs. It does sound like the 3 younger dogs were a result of a mating between the 2 older dogs. Maybe pack order wasn't established well. Not easy to manage & they were fairly large dogs too. Tragic that it ended this way. I think that bit you quoted means that the town has had dog bite incidents before, not that the owners had been bitten before. What a devastating and shocking thing to happen.
  13. I agree, he was testing you. He has obviously decided that if the other dog is on the bed, he should be too! :D
  14. Wow, poor Tag! They are nasty things, we see heaps of dogs at work with grass seeds in their eyes.
  15. I had a look at about 1am but couldn't see much. The sky looked a bit pink, but not sure if that was it?
  16. Yes I was concerned for his safety, but thankfully she kept her noxious gas to herself. :D Her real name is Pia but Pea Brain suits her haha!
  17. This is what I woke up to this morning. Pea Brain had climbed into my bed, pushed the kids out of the way, and claimed the pillow lol.
  18. They are listed on DOL. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/member.asp?name=DANARAMA
  19. My own animals and rescue animals are on the same account, and I pay all the fees! If I'm lucky, adoption fees will cover the rescue animals costs but usually not.
  20. Right, quick update. I have been focusing on 'cleaning up' his tricks, eg all feet on the floor before praising the sit, and perfecting his high fives. Haven't had a whole lot of time to practise but he is doing great. :D He is so funny and so enthusiastic! I'll have to try and get a video. :)
  21. I would say unlikely to be a fox, especially if there were chickens in the same enclosure. Foxes are much smaller than a Lab and I doubt they would take on a goat. Te situation sounds a bit odd to be honest. I would expect a fair bit of blood and mayhem regardless of what killed it.
  22. Google 'Look At That' - it teaches dogs to check in with you instead of focusing on other dogs etcz
  23. We regularly write scripts for our patients. A lot of the meds we use are human drugs, so it is cheaper for owners to buy from a chemist. The scripts are made in the animal's name so no PBS. But it is still cheaper than buying from us. In many cases, it is even cheaper than if they were buying wholesale from our supplier! We give enough repeats to cover them until their next visit, and only charge a script fee if they lose their script and we have to write a new one. Some meds are animal only and obviously in those cases, a script is not possible.
