  1. Meet my new foster pup, Lenny. He is a 5mo Italian Greyhound and I think he has settled in well lol. My big hound and little hounds :) With his foster sister Jolie. :)
  2. Annual vaccinations? Really? Time for Greencross to stop scrounging for more money and learn the AVA protocols.
  3. I think they still call them black (or black brindle).
  4. Maybe speak to someone like Nekhbet - she is familiar with working dogs and may know of a suitable home.
  5. Who imported him, and why is he needing a new home? Who spends that much money importing a dog, only to get rid of it??
  6. You are correct. Genetically they are brindle (but they miggt only haveone or two brindle hairs).
  7. Go and see a skin specialist. The new lesion sounds like a lick granuloma. Your dog is uncomfortable. Guessing at treatments will not solve anything and will end up costing you more in the long term.
  8. My personal preference is to desex once the dog is mature (approx 18mths). I have seen too many pyos, mammary strips (horrendous procedure), testicular tumours, etc to leave my dogs entire.
  9. Wouldn't Advantage be fine? It is imidacloprid not ivermectin.
  10. Yep, its Maddie of 'Maddie on Things'. http://www.google.com.au/search?q=Maddie+on+things&client=safari&hl=en&tbm=isch&prmd=ivns&ei=UIA3U6dJj5mSBYyogcAE&start=20&sa=N#
  11. I'm pretty sure that is a scam, and that dog actually belongs to a photographer who photgraphs the dog balanced on things.
  12. Its not a cherry eye. Cherry eye is when the gland of the third eyelid pops out. It is a bulge about the size of your pinky nail.
  13. It could be something minor like an injury, or it could be something more sinister like a melanoma. I'd get it checked sooner rather than later.
  14. My dog struggles to sit and it's because she has dodgy knees. I think xrays of her hips and knees would be beneficial.
  15. JB1824, are you studying to become a vet? I recently had an argument with a new grad regarding desexing and she couldn't accept that there are valid reasons to delay desexing. Seems that the 'desex everything asap' mentality is rammed down vet students throats.
  16. I think a Greyhound or maybe even a Borzoi might suit. I have never heard my Grey bark (except when playing) but she is big and brindle and many people would be put off by that.
  17. Isn't head pressing a symptom of liver shunts?
  18. Everyone will have a different opinion. Most people on this board would agree that it is best for the physical development of the bitch to wait until she has had at least one season. In larger breeds this is particularly important. Having said that, the slight risk of pyometra and increased risk of some types of cancers later in life cannot be ignored. And if you are concerned about caring for a bitch in season or about your ability to ensure she does not get pregnant, waiting to spay might not be a good idea. Personally with my dogs, I like to wait until they have had their first season. I desex at around 18mths of age. Having said all that, I have desexed several young dogs (as young as 4-5mths) through rescue and they have not had any issues. They all grew up to be healthy dogs, average size, etc.
  19. Isn't it gorgeous! The dogs are so cute.
  20. Where abouts are you? Prices will vary from state to state. The DNA test for PRA is about $150-$200 and is a one-off test. You can buy it online (Animal Network) and any vet can do the swab. The ACEs eye certificate costs $70-$100 and needs to be done once a year.
  21. I'm so sorry Maeby. RIP Grover.
