  1. I would pay to go on a holiday to pick them out. Those videos are addictive to watch. Lol me too! But then I have considered getting a Crestie simply so I can squeeze its blackheads...
  2. The thing is, it shouldn't be about changing peoples minds. It should be about fixing what is wrong with the industry. Stop whinging about AR nutters and show the country you are seriously addressing the issues at hand. I don't want racing banned but it's shit like this that will ensure AR nutters get their way.
  3. Most rescues will prioritize pound dogs over surrenders.
  4. But that isn't the only risk - the dog could break free, the dog could be attacked by another dog, the dog could bite someone, etc etc. Just not worth the risk.
  5. Anti anxiety medications are not sedatives. They reduce anxiety, they don't just make the dog sleepy. Sedating an anxious dog is just cruel - they still feel anxious but also feel sleepy and out of control.
  6. If he is happy at home, leave him at home. :) Play games with him at home, teach him tricks, etc. But yes, I would try medication. Rehoming is not a solution - he will still be fearful, just in a different location. What breed is he?
  7. I still think the amount is ludicrous and they mist be paying some decent staff wages to account for such a cost.
  8. You have to be very careful giving bones to pugs. They have crappy mouths and airways and often gulp down bones which can cause them to choke. I would give big bones under very close supervision - eg whole chicken carcass, lamb bones, etc.
  9. I just don't see how that is possible. What are GAP staff getting paid?? I mean desex, vacc, microchip and maybe even a dental would be less than $1000 per dog. Premium food for 2-3 months is only going to be $100-$200. Where does the rest come from? Totally absurd.
  10. $3000 to rehabilitate and rehome a Greyhound? Geez what are they doing to them to rehabilitate them? Plating them in gold?
  11. Bindi, Fedele and Jolie Bindi Sprite (foster) Tilly and Pia Tilly, Jolie and Bindi Preston
  12. Worth a read. http://www.instituteofcaninebiology.org/blog/the-10-most-important-things-to-know-about-canine-hip-dysplasia
  13. That may not be the case though ruralpug, it may just be that a small number of breeders chose to get their dogs hip scored. The same thing happens with eye certificates - we only see a tiny percentage of any particular breed; not because they have eye problems but because some breeders choose to do eye certificates while many don't bother.
  14. I think 10-15 is a 'normal' lifespan for an 'average' dog. My issue is with the statement 'a healthy bulldog' - the majority of bulldogs have health issues that shorten their lifespan or reduce their quality of life. So while a healthy bulldog may live to 10 years of age, most bulldogs are not healthy and do not live that long.
  15. Therein lies the problem...
  16. Hundreds of thousands of pet dogs and cats are PTS in pounds every year too - should we ban pet ownership?
  17. You may be better buying a complete joint supplement such as Joint Guard. You need to be careful with straight glucosamine - it depletes vitamin E so you need to also give Vit E.
  18. 8 weeks is the minimum age for registered breeders. My breed is usually 10-12 weeks (Italian Greyhound). Not sure what the law says.
  19. Blue is a colour that occurs in greyhounds and I have never seen a greyhound with colour dilution alopecia If the condition occurs in 25% of all blue dogs, I expect I'd have seen it at least once in greyhounds by now, especially considering I mostly deal with adult dogs. The alopecia that greyhounds do suffer from occurs across all colours- although is does seem worse with blacks- and with a lot of time and good, soft bedding, it can be resolved. Diltion alopecia might well be an issue in certain breeds but I think it's a stretch to say it's an any in all breeds that carry the dilution genes. Agree, I've seen plenty of blue greyhounds as well and all have had normal coats Ditto for Whippets Which is very interesting because it is very common in Italian Greyhounds.
  20. Source? Desexing also increases the risk of other types of cancer.
