  1. That's insane! Dog looks like it is in fast forward lol. Amazing.
  2. I agree that it needs to be investigated ASAP. Don't want to scare you but there are some nasty diseases that cause symptoms like that.
  3. Who cares if they have to wear a muzzle?? The dogs don't care one iota.
  4. Greyt, did you even read my post? No other breed of dog is raised in the way Greyhounds are, and then expected to become good family pets. The fact that so many DO make good family pets is a testament the to the breed. Of course they need to be temperament tested before being rehomed. There is no way I would recommend anyone adopt any adult dog that hadn't been properly temperament tested. And I think you need to do more research on what temperament testing is. It is not black and white, pass or fail. A good temp test is meant to find out information about the dog, what it tolerates, and what areas it needs work. From there, the dog can be trained, put into foster care, etc. Of course it is not a fool proof method, but it is the best we can do. Putting untested dogs out into the community is stupid and dangerous, for the public and for the Greyhound breed.
  5. All reputable rescue groups temperament test all dogs before rehoming. It's not just Greyhounds. The muzzle law is ancient but no doubt came about because of the methods used to train the dogs. Greyhounds are known for being almost bomb proof with humans but not so great with small animals. Of course many Greyhounds are fine with small animals, but if they aren't they can do a lot of damage very quickly. As for your other comments, of course their behaviour is due to their upbringing. Everybody knows that. The same is true for all dogs. However no other breed of dog is routinely raised in kennels and runs, not properly trained or socialised, taught to chase and potentially kill small animals - and then turfed out into the community. When raised as a pet as part of a family, they are no different to any other dog. But when raised in the manner described above, care must be taken when rehoming. A lot of people have worked very hard for a long time to change the public's perception of Greyhounds and to change muzzling laws. It only takes a few nasty incidents to undo all that good work.
  6. I'm on several greyhound FB groups, and today when a lady was walking her grey someone yelled at her "I hope you don't feed your dog live animals!".
  7. Would love to organise a big Greyhound walk, somewhere public to remind people how awesome they are.
  8. Sorry I missed the part where you said neck/spine xray. A full GA may be required for that. GAs are very safe these days, we do geriatrics every day at work. :)
  9. There are lots of sedation options, depending on how deep you want the dog to be. A pre-med might be all that is needed (something like methadone or temgesic) or something a big stronger (like ace combined with torbugesic). These don't always get them quiet enough for an xray, but its worth a try.

    Appollo

I'm so sorry Juice. Appollo was so handsome and he sounded like such a wonderful dog. Thinking of you xx
  11. Wow, what selfish lazy arseholes. When I brought my first child home, we had at least 4 dogs and several cats. When I brought my second home, we had 2 dogs and 4 cats. Now we have a house full of animals and two young kids. I can't stand people who ditch their pets just because they have kids. What a great lesson for the kids. Pieces of crap.
  12. They are funny, aren't they! Our family dog would only play fetch if you kicked the ball. If you threw it, she would just stand there looking at you. :)
  13. Why not just leave her entire until 3yo then desex her? They only come on heat once or twice a year and its not too hard to manage.
  14. They are amazingly well behaved, and the newbies just slot in no worries. Does get squashy in bed though lol
  15. Haha bloody typical! You probably think I'm full of shit! Obviously the intensive training and super strict rules is exactly what he needs. Little bugger!
  16. Finally made it to Nek today and she has kindly offered to look after him for a week or two. It will give me a break from him so I can have a clear head to try new things, and also let her make a good start on 'rewiring' him. She is hopeful that if we can break his habits and teach him new behaviours, he might come good. He was certainly knackered after his training session today, and got well and truly told off by her Mal when he tried to hump her! My dogs don't tell him off, they just ignore him, so it will be good for him to learn some doggy manners there. I'm so very grateful to Nek for her help.
  17. Merlin, the cat who miraculously survived the fire, has lost his fight. RIP brave boy, thoughts are with his family.
  18. I have 8 dogs here this weekend and for some reason thought it would be a good idea to get a photo of all of them... Almost there Right, everybody stay! OK go!
