  1. I used the plastic base from a crate and cut a piece of fake grass to fit.
  2. He will love having a dam! Swimming is his most favourite thing! :)
  3. Are you allowed to breed the different types together?
  4. Rupert had his surgery today and I'm pleased to report he has come through perfectly! He had two vets working on him to minimise anaesthetic time - one fixing his hernia and the other removing his bottom canines (baby teeth). The hernia was enormous and they had to suture a lot of muscle. I was told he would be very sore and quiet - um no! I have had to sedate him already lol. Here is my little patient xx
  5. My gorgeous boy is growing like a weed! He has put on about 3kg since we got him. He is just the most lovely boy. He is booked in for his first surgery on Tuesday but one of my closest friends will be his nurse so I feel confident he will be ok. Still scary though.
  6. I'm really proud of my dogs' teeth, especially my 5yo Greyhound and 3yo Iggy. Both are breeds that are notorious for having bad teeth. They are fed large size kibble and regular lamb flaps, chicken frames, etc. What are your tips for good teeth?

    Wrong forum :)
  8. RSA the full coated dogs require brushing every single day and the hair around their face is kept in wraps to keep it clean. They need to be washed and blow dried once a week, which is a 3hr plus job. I love the look of the full coat but I definitely don't have the time to maintain it. Not go mention that they love to romp in the rain and get dirty...
  9. Lol Rupert is showing all the signs of being a water baby too. :) He is always getting muddy or dirty and I am dreading winter!
  10. He is fantastic! Absolutely smitten with him. :)
  11. I know you deleted your post but do you have an OES? Would love to chat with another OES owner. :)
  12. Dose is 1-5mg per kg two-three times daily. Denny's dose is within range but if you feel he isn't that painful, you could reduce the dose. Does it make him seem dopey? Tramadol has no anti-inflammatory properties so is often used in conjunction with anti-inflams. For arthritis carprofen or metacam is common. However non-steroidals can exacerbate kidney problems and some vets don't like to use them in older patients so your vet may be avoiding it deliberately.
  13. I believe the rules regarding breeding and raising need to change. You should have to jump through hoops to breed a litter of Greyhounds - explain why the breeding is worthwhile, etc. And then the pups should be socialised with people, dogs, cats, etc. You would have less puppies born, and the puppies would then be much more adoptable. Trying to rehome 12,000 unsocialised large adult dogs every year is trying to close the gate after the horse has bolted.
  14. The dog has been around kids a lot, my friend has older kids than mine and their house is busy and loud like mine. That's partly why I am so shocked by her behaviour. She has also been to my house before and was nothing like this. And while I don't think my dogs would NEVER bite, they have been in places away from me, new people, new things etc and never shown aggression or that level of anxiety.
  15. Exactly, I don't blame the dog for her reaction. However I don't believe my dogs would reach a state like that just because they were in a strange environment. In fact I KNOW they wouldn't because they have been placed in such a situation many times.
  16. Jane I have known this dog since she was 8 weeks old. I see her 2-3 times a week. She isn't a foster, and she was only going to be here a week so I had no problem allowing her on the furniture as that is what she is used to.
  17. Yep, the difference between my boss's Aussie and this dog is amazing. She has always been very full-on, I believe the breeder was wrong to give this pup to my friend. My friend wanted a laid back Aussie.
  18. I might pop round to her place on the weekend with a bottle of wine...
  19. I'm sorry he is back, and I'm sorry this has turned into such a saga. I feel like I failed Rocky and I feel like I have dumped him on you.
  20. Thanks Sal, Holly is fine. She is a tough nut. She likes the dog and understands that the dog was terrified.
  21. She told me the dog could be flighty around strange men, but I was totally unprepared for how stressed she would be. I know she will be shocked and mortified when she finds out the dog bit my daughter. She adores all animals but isn't very cluey about training or behaviour. The dog dictates her life...
  22. Am in a crappy situation and not sure how to handle it. I am currently minding a colleague's dog, a 1.5yo Aussie Shepherd (for reference, not my boss's dog). Colleague is also a wonderful friend, very selfless and has a lot on her plate. This is the first time she has been on a holiday in years. I brought the dog home last week and she was incredibly stressed and anxious. This surprised me because she normally comes off as boisterous and silly. In hindsight, I should have realised this was anxiety. She is with my friend 24/7. My friend is a very soft dog owner, and this dog rules the roost. She has zero manners around people or dogs, jumping all over people, knocking over other dogs, etc. Anyway, on her first night home I was sitting on my son's bed while he read to me. The dog was sitting next to me on the bed. My daughter came in and sat on the end of the bed, having a full blown tantrum. I was trying to reason with her when suddenly the dog leapt up and nipped my daughter on the face. I feel it was a warning nip, the dog was stressed to the max, etc. My daughter got a huge fright but wasn't badly hurt (bruise and red tooth mark). I was completely shocked, would never have expected that from the dog. The dog has settled a lot and is much better, but having lived with her for a week now I feel her behaviour and anxiety is not ok. But I am scared if I tell my friend what has happened she will never go on holiday again. I would have no hesitation minding the dog again but I doubt my friend will want to leave her with us. My friend is not a good doggy leader and funds are tight, I'm not sure she could afford regular training with a proper trainer. I feel so torn. If my friend was there I don't think the dog would bite anyone, but her anxiety seems very bad when she is away from my friend. What do I do? How do I handle this? ETA the dog is fine with my daughter now and my daughter understands that she scared the dog. The dog potters around the house with the kids but is still terrified of my husband.
  23. Try not to worry. Our family dog when I was a child ate grapes all the time and she lived to be 17. And just recently my mum's dog ate several small packets of sultanas and suffered no ill effects (we made her vomit, and had her on fluids for 2 days just to be safe though). Thinking of you! :)
  24. Thanks dancin. Turns out the pup doesn't have PDA thankfully. He does have a Grade 4 murmur but his condition is not considered life threatening at this stage.
  25. No you're not! It was an accident. Hopefully he just has a sore belly.
