  1. So sorry yo hear this. My dog was diagnosed with cancer in his kidney and given 3-6 months to live. We put him on carprofen tablets (lower end dose every day) as apparently it can help stabilise certain cancers. He put weight back on and lived another 20 months.
  2. I would crate her inside with no food or bones, just water and a comfy bed. She will just sleep. ETA I take my dogs to work every day, and the majority of time they choose to sleep in their open crates. They wake up and socialise when people are on their lunch breaks, then it's back to bed lol.
  3. They are all serious dogs. In the wrong hands, they can be a nightmare. Perhaps something like a Bullmastiff or Great Dane might suit? I know the hair is wrong but can't think of any big, hairy large breeds that aren't full-on.
  4. We have several kennels (though they usually cram into one lol) on our covered deck. The dogs also wear coats.
  5. Current pup comes to work with me, but previous pups have been left home, usually outside. I have older dogs that babysit. :) Dogs are inside when we are home and sleep in our bedroom. They don't bark during the day at all.
  6. My bad dog, the dog I thought would live forever just to spite me, my Champa... My old boy was given his wings tonight after losing his battle with renal cancer. He was diagnosed in October 2013 and given 3-6 months to live. He sure proved them wrong! Typical stubborn Champa. The most destructive and challenging dog I've ever owned. But boy did he love his humans. Any human really. He loved our kids when they arrived. He loved food, swimming and carrying toys around in his mouth. And he loved Maisie. I have been thinking about her a lot lately, maybe she was coming to get him... I'm sure they are together again now. Goodbye old boy, love you forever xxx
  7. Yeah we have never had much success with the visors either. Most dogs don't need to wear e-collars after eye removal.
  8. Recovery time is shorter with an eye removal (10-14 days), because its really just skin that needs to heal. The intra-ocular prosthetic takes about 3 weeks to fully heal. There have been cases where dogs develop nerve pain after an eye removal but its rare. As long as the dog is on good pain killers, I think it's much of a muchness. We usually give tramadol the night of surgery, and then for about a week afterwards. Why does your dog need his eye removed?
  9. I work at an animal eye specialist and I wouldn't get the intra-ORBITAL prosthesis. There is really no point. It doesn't reduce pain and it has little cosmetic effect. Eye removal is quick and safe and the dog will recover quickly. The only thing I will suggest is that you ask for decent pain relief. We put all of ours on tramadol post-op, but many vets will just give a NSAID which really isn't enough. We do intra-OCULAR prosthetics, where you remove the inside contents of the eye and put the silicone prosthetic inside the eye. This procedure provides a cosmetic eye and is believed to be less painful because you don't cut the optic nerve.
  10. Thanks. :) Feet are actually fine, its just his beard that is gross. He dunks his whole chin when he drinks then goes and digs in the garden... Add some drool and food and you have a disgusting beard lol.
  11. Can anyone recommend a dry shampoo/powder type product for a full coated dog? I am looking for something to use on my OES in between baths. Also, what is good for dirty beards? His beard is white and it is always stained. Today I used dishwashing liquid, then whitening shampoo, then normal shampoo... and it's still stained.
  12. My big woolly bear had a bath today. He is almost 20kg now so it's a big job! "I don't like this..." Boomba came to see what was going on. Then decided to join in... Not impressed with the dryer. Soooo fluffy!!! ????
  13. She isn't stressed at all. She doesn't spend her whole life stalking things. She just switches on sometimes and it scares me.
  14. Nothing new trifecta, it's always like that here. Everyone is managed and cared for.
  15. Why is it harsh? You are speaking as though I am ignoring the needs of my small animals. As I said, I am not a moron. The situation is being managed. I was hoping for help with Toby, not judgements on how I look after my pets.
  16. I'm not a moron, the other animals are not being harassed constantly. Nobody is stressed except me.
  17. I need to get back to obedience and maybe start agility... I'm just so worried she will get one of the cats.
