What Dry Food Would You Recommend?

Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone know if we can get sample of Canidae Grain Free dog food? Thanks -
At night he will sleep either in my room or laundry where he got his own comfy bed, but he will only going to sleep in his own bed or my room when I’m going to bed. Before that, when I have not gone to bed yet, he will sleep around me (like I was watching TV, using computer etc) in living room. He will cry and try to escape from laundry if I try to get him to sleep in his own bed before I do. Yeah, I’m pretty sure he got excited and is trying to get some sort of reaction from me. Like you say, even a NO is attention to him. My dog does this type of behaviour when she wants attention. I don't mind a little bit of scratching and playing but if she gets noise I walk out of the room and ignore her- no eye contact at all- until she settles. It might not be the same with your dog but its easy enough to try a few times to see if it works. I did do that before but not every time when he had that behaviour. So tonight, I walk out the room and ignore him every time when he try to dig or scratch the carpet/couch and literally 6 times in total and guess what, he wasn’t barking at all and the time to have him settle down himself got lesser and lesser. So I think I just need to be consistent at all time and just keep ignoring him and leave the room every time, even though it was kind of annoying that I have to get up and leave what I’m doing. And to make it harder is to get my brother’s butt up as well... but tonight we got there in the end Anyway thanks guys, glad I’m not the only one having this issue. Love this forum, so many dog lovers and information. Cheers... will keep you all update how he’s going :)

Hi, just wondering if anyone has encountered this situation before. My little boy is nearly one year old now. He is really lovely most of the time, but sometime (especially at night) he will start barking at us all the sudden for some unknown reason. Well I’m guessing he’s not happy with what we don’t want him to do. Like for example, he can be sleeping on the carpet in the living room at this moment and all the sudden when my brother walk into the living room, he will get so excited with my brother and when we firmly say no to him, he will then start to bark at us. What I do is I would firmly look at him and cross my arm in front of him. He will usually stop barking and sit in front of me and look at me. Then I will say good boy and give him some treats. Then he will be good for like few minutes and later he will start again. But instead of getting excited at my brother, he will start and trying to “scratch” the carpet/couch (as if he trying to dig hole there). Then once again I will firmly say No to him and obviously he’s not happy about that and start barking at us again. Any ideas what he’s trying to tell us or trying to do? Any suggestion to what to do in this situation? Thanks

Well the first indgredient is natural cereal grains which include rice, wheat and/or sorghum, like others' thought I don't think most dogs need rice based food. Second is chicken and chicken by products - when the manufactures process the chicken/meats, they lose 80% of the water. The manufacturers weighted the chicken/meats before it goes into processing cycle and once they finish with the processing, you are actually not getting what you think you are getting (ie. if they use 10kg of chicken or other meats etc, you eventually only getting 2kg of the protein after processing). And as far as I concern, that's the only protein source in this brand of dog food and they use by-products, I'm not a big fan of this as well. Anyway that's just my thought. In the end, you need to figure out what is best for your four legged friends :) -

I just got a sample pack of Black Hawk lamb and rice which I put out in morning with their Royal Canin. They both ate the whole lot and then Charlie has been barking at the laundry shelf for more. I give chicken necks and sometimes sardines at night. I was putting out dry food when at work but I think Jasper is eating it all so have to supervise feeding at the moment as Jasper was looking fatter and Charlie started looking skinny. I don't think Jasper is scratching quite as much as before. What is the problem with corn in the kibble? Hi Charjas, where did you get your sample bag? I would love to get the sample to try as well :) Thanks Send Sherel an email Here & she will send you a sample :) Edited, cause I couldn't get the link to work. Thank you Sheena :) -

If you sat down and studied the ingredients in most commercial things and that includes foods you will come up with lists of ingredients that someone somewhere on a forum will deem to be capable of harming your dog. Dogs here eat raw meaty bones as part of their daily diet, they eat them before they have a chance to get dirty or smelly, they eat them completely and there is no mess left behind. I feed fresh refrigerated meats and bones and have not had an issue with bacterial illnesses. Anything a dog eats or chews can in reality be a choking risk, I have known dogs to choke and die eating dry food, dog sausage, left over cooked sausages, and yes raw bones. Just like every year a number of people die from choking on food. If your dog is thriving on Artemis, then stop worrying. You will have to make up your own mind about teeth cleaning and do what causes you the least worry. There’s one time my boy did get chicken/turkey neck occasionally, but I need to watch him the whole time when he was chewing on them. Sometimes when I give it to him, he won’t eat it straight away. He will lick the bones and carry them with him to everywhere he goes for good 15 minutes, hence that’s why I’m worrying about the bacteria and dirtiness. But I think it seems like the RMBs is the best option to clean the teeth, so I will give it a go again and see how it will turn out. And definitely NO to the Dentastix again!!!! Thanks and in the end, we are all trying to give the best possible to our four legged friends and we all learn and grow :)

I think Black Hawk is relatively new in the last couple of years and its Australian made and owned. So its probably not on doganalysis which I think is an American site. Also remember that I'm pretty sure that imported dog food is irradiated through Australian quarantine - and as far as I know the jury is out on whether or not this is a good thing. But I tend to be a bit wary. As to which is better, its really what your dog does best on - some will do better on Artemis and others on BH. If it were me I would try the 3 kg bag of Black Hawk first - its cheaper, Australian made and is developing a solid fan base (and yes I'm using it as a supplementary feed at the moment) - and if you're not happy with it then try something else. Hope that helps. :) Thank westiemum. I think I will do that and see whether he likes it or not. I suppose we all learn and grow and we are trying to give our four legged friends the best we can. They definitely deserved it One thing though is he farts quite a fair bit and the smell is definitely not pleasant. Anyone has encountered this when they put their dogs on Artemis? p/s: he just farted while I’m typing this message... -
A quick one, I give my boy one Pedigree Dentastix per day since I got him to clean his teeth. He is now 11 months old. I’ve doing some research on good health diet for pet recently just to make sure I’m giving/feeding him the best things I can and to my surprise, I read quit a fair bit of negative comments on Dentastix. Below is the link to one of petforums I read: http://www.petforums.co.uk/dog-health-nutrition/170976-ingredients-dentastix-dont-feed.html So, I’m really confused now . Anyone has any thought about this? I always stock up the Dentastix if they are on discount and so I just bought two boxes the other day. Am not quite sure whether I should continue give him Dentastix everyday or should throw/give them away? I personally is not a big fan of raw meaty bone too, as I’m worry he will chock himself and the bacteria and also the mess and dirtiness it will get. So apart from Dentastix and brushing his teeth (he won’t let me do it, he is a Shiba Inu), any other suggestion to clean his teeth? Is rawhide any good for teeth and health? I give him rawhide occasionally. Anyway, any suggestions and ideas will help. Thanks in advance. Cheers P/S: My boy gets Artemis dry food and I think that’s a pretty good one... (I think... )

Hi Everyone, a quick one. I have been feeding my little boy (a Shiba Inu) Artemis for the last 11 months and he will be slowly changing into adult formula in couple months time. When I got him, the breeder has highly recommended the Artemis and they feed their dogs on Artemis too, hence I got the Artemis and he absolutely love it. But as I live in Perth, there’s no Artemis retailers here and due to the high shipping costs, the breeder has changed her preference from Artemis to Black Hawk. Black Hawk is a lot cheaper than Artemis and we can get them in Perth. And now, she told me if I still want to stick to Artemis, she's more than happy to order them for me from Eastern State, but I also can choose Black Hawk. My question is, which one is better? Would you recommend Artemis over Black Hawk or vice versa? Or there’s no difference between two? I did a quick research on www.dogfoodanalysis.com, the Artemis rating is 5 stars premium dry food (out of 6 stars) but I can’t seem to find Black Hawk. Anyway any advice is good. Thanks in advance :) Bel
