Hey guys, Just looking for some dog friendly beaches, other than Bribie Island and The Spit. Actually, just any great places where I can take my boy out for an adventurous Saturday. Does anyone know if Wynnum is dog friendly? I know there's a wadding pool there, but I don't want to rock up and be told to leave because of my dog. Any ideas, let me know!

Hi guys, I've just bought home my wonderful Great Dane fur child, and am looking for a few tips on effective training. At the moment, I've got the basic knowledge, and put it into play on the weekend, but am looking for people who have successfully trained a Great Dane or other stubborn breed. Any info is greatly appreciated! :D Thanks!

I took him to a dog park afterwards, and he was fine with the other older dogs. But this was a fight. At first it was just growling and puppy playing, but it definitely got far to aggressive and turned into a fight. I migh contact the breeder and see what she has to say. He's great with the other dogs. It's so strange.

My 10 week Great Dane met his first puppy (13 week Rottweiler) and started a fight wit him! How do I stop this? He was growling and biting. This is his first meeting, and he keeps starting a fight! Please help! What do I do?!

Hmmm I might have to leave him outside. It makes me nervous; I don't want him to feel 'expelled' from the house. I might look at installing a doggy door; how long do these take to train in? I still want him to go outside, and I'm a little worried that he may just ignore it and toilet inside. GAH!

Thanks for all the responses! He knows that toilet is outside; if I leave the door opens he makes his way out there without assistance. I don't want to lock him outside, as Dane's are not outside dogs, so I'm okay with the occasional 'accident'. I'm just more nervous about him starting to poop inside; I want him to be able to hold that (he usually does). I have quite a large backyard for him, but I don't trust my neighbours not to peek or open my gate, unfortunately. I tried the puppy pads, and he just chews them up. I also tried the patch of fake grass, but alas - he won't pee on it. I did a LOT of research before getting him, but I just never agreed with crating. But now I'm not sure. He is still very young, so still has plenty of time to learn. I'll check out that Great Dane thread :) Thanks again! I'm open to more tips :)

Hi all, I bought home my first little boy; a black Great Dane named Odin. I brought him home on Sunday night (25/03/2012). Since then, he has had free reign, so to speak, of my unit (which isn't very big). He knows to sleep when I sleep at night time, and he knows that when I open the back door, it's for him to eliminate. The problem is I'm back at work, and can only see him on my lunch breaks, so he's alone between 8-12:30, and 1:30-5. I can't leave the back door open, but I'm trying to teach him to hold it until I can come home and give him a break, as he just lets it out if the door is shut, without letting me know. I have been told the best way is crate training, so I'm just looking for some answers to the following: 1. Has anyone got any tips for Crate training a Great Dane pup? 2. He's spent two days without a crate; will this make it harder to train him? 3. He will only be crated when I'm not home, but for when I am; how can I teach him to let me know when he needs to eliminate, and to learn that eliminating is for outside only? ANYTHING you guys can tell me would be awesome, as I'm buying a crate for him after work today. Thank you!
