Every adult in that house who knew there was a dog in the yard and a young child wandering around should be held accountable IMO.

I have unbonded with a dog We had a working kelpie when I was younger, he was my late fathers dog and he was a great dog, very affectionate and loving, he also provided us with a connection to Dad after he died. One day he just brain snapped for no apparent reason and went to attack my god child from across the room, i remember josh hadnt been anywhere near him at the time, Devil just had a quiet low growl and flew off his bed towards josh who was about 4 years old,I reacted instinctively and managed to intercept him before he reached young josh, I caught his collar, he bit through my hand and kept trying to attack me while I dragged him to his kennel.I have a couple of scars on my arm and hand where he got me, it was pretty full on. we took him to the vet who couldn't find anything wrong after a barrage of tests, mum said she would have him pts if I wanted but I couldn't bring myself to have him put down. We had only lost Dad a year earlier. To this day I have no clue why he did it, but I never felt the same about that dog again.Devil also avoided me afterwards & probably picked up on my distrust of him. I never let my kids near him when we visited my mum even though she said he ever again showed any aggression & she kept him until he died of old age quite a few years later.

I did find the Isle of Dogs drying on my own hands, which is probably whats affected Obi too. I used the purina puppy shampoo but it didnt get any dirt off and made him coat feel quite rough. His white areas have started to come up a bit yellow so maybe I need to use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of any build up that could be there from the IODs that I have been using? Then just be able to maintain with a gentle shampoo instead of using the whitening shampoo which is obviously drying him and causing the itchy n scratchy? would the velvet soap or detergent dry the coat out a fair bit as well though? I wonder if the IOD conditioner is contributing to the yellowing, his coat feels so nice and soft afterward I use it so I hope not! It was so much simpler before I got a show dog,a hose off in the backyard and the occasional hydrobath was the extent of my grooming then lol.

How is Toby today RV? hope things are looking up with him xxx

I have been using isle of dogs no 16 whitening shampoo & their heavy conditioner on my orange & white Brittany. It has been really good but lately he seems to have developed a bit of a sensitivity to the shampoo, he gets quite itchy the minute I put it on him, it also doesn't seem to be as effective as it used to be, his coat is a tiny bit yellowed, I do love their heavy conditioner though. So now I'm looking for a good shampoo that will whiten his white bit while still protecting the orange and that he hopefully won't react to?. I will be watching with interest :)

Have you tryed sketchers? I wear orthotics too, and I can get my orthotics into them. There are also some good plain black lady jane type shoes at Athletes Foot I noticed the other day. There are heaps of shoes around, it just depends on what you are looking for.

Do desexed males react to bitches in heat too?

Im feeling your pain with the recalls!! I have heard good things about the Susan Garrett recallers but how expensive is it?

That is quite a lot of room, great, thx for sharing that pic. I hadnt thought of 'dressing' my bench, maybe next year if I survive this year :D

Thx ST, Ive bought a soft crate for Obi, so will be much lighter & easier to bring in :) I wont bring all of the crap I usually chuck in though. I have bought 2 kids tickets just to make life easier if they want to 'help' me set up, if not, it was cheaper to do it that way than any other.Ron is going to make the day Im entered the show day for the boys so they wont be hanging around the dogs area much I am sure. He will probably take them home and just come back for me later.

Very well said! The whole thing has made me feel physically sick, I am shocked at the sentencing time ??? Its crazy

I am outraged at such a gutless act. I understand the frustration of seeing dog shit everywhere you look, but this is not the way to handle it. I dont know if anyone else has reported this, Im sure they have, but I have just phoned the RSPCA after hours cruelty line and told them. -
thanks Showdog for all the info! I did get an email back this afternoon, I have to buy them passes at $26 ea if they are to come in wih me!!! Thats disgraceful, I cant even get my husband to 'drive thru' and leave til 9am, then go in through the main gate with them which would be cheaper as he would only have to pay for himself. So Im thinking now that I will drive in with my 12yr old (he can use the 2nd pass) he can stay with the dog and our stuff while I go and park the car, Im not comfortable leaving anything unattended at all, so its either that or park and walk in with everything. So rude of the show ppl...rant over... My hubby can then bring our younger son in at 9am when the gates open.

LOVE the pics!!

I agree with the others about your current dog probably teaching any new dog about chase and kill. Coming from a farm growing up, it is usual practise to let the younger pups follow on behind the older dogs and learn from them about life on the land. Even if you get a lower drive dog it will still instinctively form a pack with your older dog and add to the potential damage. Id work on Ruby first and then add another dog once you have her a bit more 'chilled out' But if I had to choose, Id say a Brittany, but I am biased :)
