  1. She broke both her front legs and because her bones were so small she needed them surgically pinned and plated. A cast wouldn't be enough for the bones to heal. That's horrible Donatella. Glad she is better now!
  2. I get what you are saying Staffyluv. It was still a shock seeing it first hand though. I live in a pretty good neighborhood and I think most people here in Singapore wouldn't consider dogs as pests (especially a purebred toy poodle, which is what the pup was). It was more a combination of ignorance + bullying on the part of the child IMO. But anyway yes I agree not everyone feels the same way about dogs and I still need to adjust to that.
  3. I'm actually in a South East Asian country fuzzy82 (moved back here a couple of months ago) and its even less dog friendly than Australia. Still I would have thought it would be common sense (even with kids) not to hit a small puppy with a ball. I was wrong evidently.
  4. Sorry just wanting to vent. I went to the grass patch downstairs of my apartment just now. There was another 5 month puppy there so I thought I would let my dog interact with her for abit (I don't think the owners give he puppy much doggy socialization). There were kids around who really like my dog. I'm usually abit wary because they (the kids) can be too excitable and rough and they scream a lot.. Well this time there were balls around and one of them (~8 yrs old I am guessing) actually took aim at the 5 month old pup and hit her with it!! I was so shocked I immediately said "don't do that!" The puppy was with a maid and a child and they weren't leaving so I stuck around to keep an eye on the pup and handed my dog to my dad for abit. On hindsight I should have just left. I will be avoiding going downstairs during dinner time from now on because that's when the kids are usually there. I know not all kids are like this but just seeing one mistreating a puppy today left me quite shocked. Another boy asked me why he couldn't hit the puppy (??) and I said because she's small and it would hurt her. I wish parents would better teach their children how to teach dogs (and puppies) with respect
  5. Hi, I think you will find many people saying "the best food is whatever food your dog does best on." In terms of kibble, I would say look for one that lists a meat meal as its first ingredient (e.g. "chicken meal".) This website is abit outdated but worth a look - www.dogfoodanalysis.com. My dog is fed mostly raw at this point but with Acana Lamb and Apple kibble as a snack in the mornings.
  6. Hi, just wanted to give an update. I gave my dog his meal after a 24 hr fast on Thursday night. He didn't poo until tonight, but it was firm!! I have never been so happy to see poo lol. Plus it was an accident indoors after his meal. But yay I think he is getting better! Thanks again to everyone who offered advice :)
  7. Hi ann21, The vet at Animal Medical Centre (VET@RV) Pte Ltd seems like a great vet and is interested in Internal Medicine, Microbiology and Complementary Holistic care. Here is a list of other vets, from the Singapore Veterinary Association :D Thanks for the help raffikki. I will check out the website!
  8. Turkey! Love the "Oh yeah!!!" vibe from the doggies when they came out and then "Awww " when they were carried out hahah
  9. Hi Steve thanks for all your help. I was quite surprised he slept through last night! :)) I suspect he went to poo yesterday afternoon because I found some in the balcony this morning. It wasn't sloppy which is good :). He pooed only a bit this morning and it was runny. Otherwise he is quite active. I took him for a walk this morning and he drank a lot of water. Hopefully he will continue to improve!
  10. I can get fresh raspberries here. Any reason why you would use frozen? Yep because I cant get them - fresh is good and much better if you can put them through a sieve and take out the lumpy bits if possible Ok thanks I will get fresh raspberries, sieve them and add them in his diet after a 24 hr fast. Didn't Persephone suggest just the chicken after the fast ? Your dog's tummy needs a break from all the different things you have been trying. You must be worried sick . Try to get your boy a bit settled and then perhaps seek out another vet, or a specialist. Although there are people like Persephone and Steve here on DOL whose knowledge and experience are vast. Thanks Danny's Darling. I was abit flustered yesterday but yes the plan is to just feed boiled chicken tonight (he would have not eaten for 24 hrs) and see how he goes through the night/morning. I will then take it from there. There is another vet I have been recommended so I will go to him if my dogs diarrhea doesn't improve after a bit. Unfortunately there aren't many (if any) specialists in Singapore.
  11. Congrats lilysmum! She sounds lovely. Looking forward to photos!
  12. Odd that they don't test for giardia - I think they don't have the lab facility to do so. It's a small vet practice with two consulting rooms and one surgery room...

  14. Okay will do this! I am just going to have to ignore the puppy eyes begging me for food *grin

  16. Thanks guys. Would you recommended slippery elm or just to go cold turkey and do the fast for 24 hrs first?
  17. I just heard back from the vets she said the only thing she can offer me is more antibiotics . I asked her about Giardia and she said they dont do tests for it but the antibiotics should help. Also told me to stop feeding raw although she doesnt think its an ecoli/samenolla infection. Sigh...I am quite reluctant to do another round of antibiotics especially since I thought it was what triggered his diarrhea in the first place?/
  18. Thanks Steve. I called the vets office this morning and am waiting for the vet to get back to me. I have been watching his water intake carefully in case of dehydration (I should say I also have been giving him cooled "porridge" so there is more water content). Hes been drinking enough so far. I agree bout the medicine for binding. His stool is still as sloppy and the medicine only seems to delay his diarrhea. I will skip it tonight (already gave half a dose this afternoon unfortunately) and see how he goes.
  19. Steve that is very generous of you thank you so much, I will send you a PM. Edit: your inbox is full so I will post in the comments box :)
  20. He is. I transitioned to half raw about 4 months ago and raw chicken is his staple (along with liver, brewers yeast, kelp, olive oil). Sometimes he gets lamb or beef but most of the time its chicken. If he was allergic would it take this long to show up? Before that he was on advance puppy rehydratable (also chicken based I believe).
  21. Just checked my vet prescirbed smecta not Metragyl . Was feeding boiled chicken and rice except for yesterday. I will get some sweet potatoes today and give it a go, hopefully it's a better staple than rice :). I am abit weary bout giving plain yogurt because I suspect it might have irritated his gut. Will try the sweet potato and monitor from there
