  1. My dog is abit ball obsessed and if there was a ball at an off leash park he would definitely go for it. I would also probably have to spend the whole time holding onto my dog if the person with the ball stayed there. So no, I don't think it's fair if people bring toys to the off leash park and expect dogs not to be attracted to them. If the dog was just holding the toy in the mouth the whole time I could probably still manage it, but throw in a game of fetch and squeaky noises and I have got no chance.
  2. Lol sorry first time I have heard of the term 'cranky or slutty bitches' being applied to female dogs  I clearly have never owned an entire female.
  3. I live in an apartment and I did both inside and outside when my pup first came, and then transitioned to outside only at 6 months. I found having a playpen was very helpful when I was not home. Never had to worry about him going anywhere random to pee and he nearly always went to go on the newspaper when I was not home. Edited for grammar.
  4. Title as above. I hope the OP got to read one of the last few posts (can't remember by who now). A good summary of the situation and sound advice for the OP going forward.
  5. I'm still so saddened by this affair. Singapore is hot and humid, I wouldn't even leave my dog in the car in the backseat with the air con on.... I hope the owners are able to get some justice for that poor dog.
  6. Hi all, Feeling very sad after reading this piece of news in Singapore. I am going to go give my dog a hug now . http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sgseen/lost_found_pets/1832672/owner_leaves_dog_with_groomer_only_to_have_it_stolen.html#commentSection
  7. Hey, my pup flew at 8 weeks from Sydney to Melbourne then again at 8 months (this time overseas). He did fine both times but needed a couple of weeks to really settle in I think. I know how nerve wrecking it can be, all the best!
  8. Yay glad he is home hope you will be able to find out what's wrong soon.
  9. Thinking of Ziggy and hoping for the best
  10. Quick post for anyone who is still awake- I am finding red spots with black specks on them on my dog's belly (no where else). First thought is fleas but so far the black specks I have been able to get off are not turning red with water. I also have to kind of pry them out. Tried the shaking the dogs hair on a white towel thing and nothing came up. Could it be anything else? Edit: I should also add I put on frontline plus for my dog two weeks ago. Sorry about the size an quality of the photos still trying to work it out
  11. Isn't it your first criteria? What happens when no non-shedding dog is suitable to a person's lifestyle? Most of them are terriers and I can't think of nothing worse than a terrier breed in the hands of someone who doesn't get terriers. I didn't think most of the non-shedders were Terriers? I can only think of the Poodles, Bichons, Maltese, Shitzu, Lhasa, Havanese etc, quite a few to choose from - none of which are Terriers. Surely one of those would be suitable for most people? +1 terriers are not on my list but I don't think I am want for choice for my lifestyle with nonshedding as an important criteria
  12. Its an important criteria for me. I live with my family and mom is very house proud and big on cleanliness. Even if I lived alone I would prefer daily grooming to having to deal with shedding. I like brushing my dog and I am seriously thinking of taking up an amateur course on grooming so I can clip my dog myself. Saving money partly but also for a peace of mind.
  13. Oh how handsome...<3 lovely boy
  14. I'll add a story! Tonight I was doing clicker training with my dog. He alread knows how to 'hold' a plastic container and bring it to me, and I am trying to teach him how to do it with this toys. So I get out a rope toy, and click whenever his mouth touches it. Well, he's not really into it. "Ok I'll touch the toy. Oh don't make me do it again...I'll go to my bed, will you give me a treat? No? How about if I sit? No? Alright I'll touch the rope toy. Alright I'll even lift it again. What? You want me to do it AGAIN? No how about if I go to my bed? Lie down?" And this goes on for the next 10 mins. I stop the session after he lifts the toy for the last time and go lie down on my seat. My dog goes out for a sip of water, comes back, looks at the rope toy, and brings it all the way to me! "Can we play now??" And I've put away the darn clicker so I can't click it!
  15. Oh I am so envious! Love the black Havs too :)
  16. I would say if you don't want your puppy humping toys or other dogs as an adult, then nip it in the bud now. I am not ok with either so addressed both when my dog was younger. He has never tried to hump humans.
  17. Another +1 for calendula tea. My dog scratches himself a lot, and while I am trying to investigate the cause I tried the Calendula tea rinse Erny recommended. Literally within 24 hrs I saw results! Much less itching now :). I am going to replace my dogs conditioner with Calendula tea from now on.
  18. He is so adorable. Love the black ones!
  19. Just wanted to say congrats! And I hope you figure out how to upload pics soon -hint hint- :). As for meat/pet supplies, I use(d) Vic mart. The pet shop is after the doughnut van/ vitamin shop.
  20. I was sick for around a month half a year ago so I know how difficult it can be! Helpful neighbours are a Godsend, and my dog was surprisingly well behaved during that time, otherthan that though...kong toys (stuffed with peanut butter), cardboard for him to shred (toilet rolls or...a big box?)...ice cubes for him to chew on?
  21. Thanks everyone for their input. Not sure if this is on topic anymore but I don't think culture had anything to do with the incident. The child in question was Asian, not scared of dogs but just being a bully really. Still its been interesting to read about how to deal with people from cultures who treat dogs differently. Tapua: thanks for the tip. I think it works (because it stopped the kid and got another to start asking me questions) and will use it in the future if I encounter something similar again.
  22. I have had people insinuate this to me before. But hey, most of the time the people who are commenting mean much less to me compared to my dog. My dogs welfare is much more important to me than people's comments. Even though the comments get me irritated for a while,
  23. What a horrible thing to happen, it makes me sick just thinking about it
  24. Hoping for a good recovery for your dog miss2. Hang in there. I can only imagine how difficult this must be
  25. Not at all. I was just wanting to vent, happy for people to share their experiences :)
