Today I had to make the hardest decision of my whole life, after 7 months of battle today Tayla was put to sleep due to irrepairable leg injuries at only just under 12 month old. I remember that day last year when I picked up this ball of fluff up from the airport I was so proud of the beautiful girl laurelle had sent me and I still am I can never describe in words the mark Tayla has left on my life she was an amazing dog who left her mark in the show ring at her first show winning the class of Baby Puppy Bitch and best Baby puppy in show at the GSDCV Show in December 2005 . A day will not go by when I will not think of her and love her Rest Peacefully my darling Hannah Andacht Quana (Fanto X Andacht Spearitt)

Hi Laura, I use the odour muncher mainly on my entire male as he gets that feral smell sometimes and its fanatstic. You dont need to use much which is also an advantage Hannah

I use their henna shampoo on my gsd's and its fantastic and also the odour muncher. I also use their shampoo for sensitive skin and the protein condition on my kelpie x who has dodgy skin and it's great also. Couldnt reccommend these products highly enough :D

I have been using eagle pack now for about 2 months, I am very happy with the results My puppies are on the large breed puppy & adults on the natural. I have just started my kelpieX on the fish & oatmeal due to food allergy and she is doing well on it. They do have with mixed with a mince & veg mix along with chicken wings and brisket bones ( varied during the week). They all have shiney coats and are very healthy -
Finding A Good Vet, Recommendations?
Derharv GSD'S replied to haven's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use Avonsleigh Vet clinic but that would be a bit far for you, I can also reccommend Bob Cavy at Stud Park. -
All my dogs are trained with positive reinforcement trainning by the way of praise and a release command, The tone of my voice lets my dog know exactly whats going on. I have never used any other method. Its really interesting to hear of others methods

I lost one of my girls about 5 weeks ago too, not a day goes by when I dont think about her but i think everyday does get easier but we dont seem to notice. No one knows how you could feel other than people who love their dogs a much as you do. Keep your chin up, even though its hard, just remember your lost one will always be in your heart.

3 Month Puppy With A Bad Habit
Derharv GSD'S replied to Gibbo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Oh the joys of puppies Gibbo One of my boys did the same thing when I first got him, I tried my hardest to ignore him but it got to the stage where I could no longer stand it. I ended up using spray bottle and I hided out near where he slept and the second he started he got a spray of water then I praised him alot the second he stopped, I think I woke half the house up praising him but after a few goes he stopped and they next night I didnt hear a whimper out of him. Sleep is so precious when you deprived of it, have fun with you pup -
I would definetly keep the dog on lead for the time being just to be safe, but reccommend to your friend to get the dog into obedience training to get some help with socialising the dog and getting some control off leash

so sorry for your loss, she was a lovely dog. Just remember all the good times you had with her:)

Food Reward V's Positive Reinforcement
Derharv GSD'S replied to !Kristen!'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I use Positive reinforcement, my dogs respond so well to praise. I figure that in emergency situation like when your dog is chasing a cat across the road etc you may not have food available when you need to recall it? I suppose it depends on what stimulates your dog everyone is different, its what eva works for you -
I have previously used a pronged collar on one of my girls who has unfortionatly passed away and it was fantastic, I would never of used if I thought it would of hurt her. In the wrong hands could be awfully cruel ! I have heard of people sharpening the prongs and all sorts of aweful stuff. Its just idiots that give these things a bad name.

So sorry for you loss

Aggression Torwards Other Dogs
Derharv GSD'S replied to a topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi I also have german shepherds and I have found that head halters can give you extra control with them, you may find it more effective to control him? I had a female a few years ago which did the same thing, I can give you the phone no. of a professional dog trainer who is fantastic with agression problems he also runs a boarding school for dogs. This is something you dont want to muck around with. In my experience it can sometimes be a dominace thing or a nervous thing? If I can be of any further assitance please pm me. Good luck -
Should I Put This Puppy Down?
Derharv GSD'S replied to Roxanne's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
hi The pups legs do not look good, it must of been noticebale to the breeder, I recused a gsd a few years ago with chronic OCD at 16 weeks old and with an operation and plenty of care including weekly swimming in a heated pool she recovered dramitically, she would of only had a few years of excellent movement but I suppose you do what you can. There are so many new products (both natural & medical) on the market you may be able to do something for the poor thing. May be get a 2nd opinion from a vet just to put things in perspective. Good luck -
thanx so much everyone.

Hi Inky I have been feeding my dogs Bonnie for a few years but just recently swapped over to nutrience which I have found is great, fairly economic and my dogs have never looked better. If you go for a premeuim food you dont have to feed so much of it and you dont have to give your dog extra supplement unless they specifically need it, I still give mine bones etc. good luck

On saturday I had to make a hard decision and put to sleep my 2 year old german shepherd gemma. Such a hard thing to do but I think the right decision.I will always be proud of her and what we achieved over her short but meaningful life. Rest peacefully my big cuddly teddy bear I will love you for the rest of my life.
