  1. Such a sad situation damn animal rights...they're more interested in shutting down any kind of industry than animal rights IMO.
  2. My OH correctly guessed the top right :D so proud hehe I guessed a few too I looked at the spoiler fairly quickly I'm no good at riddles or the like obviously
  3. I, as a dog lover, feel a bit icky about having dogs inside unless they're very clean. I think it's from living on a farm & seeing what they roll in when unattended. I don't have a problem if they're well groomed & washed though. I can completely understand a non-dog person feeling uncomfortable about dogs inside. Especially big ones. I think if it's well-managed though, your SIL might have less of a problem. I feel a bit gross going to a friend's place and seeing dog hair all along the passage way and on mattresses (that guests sleep on), embedded in the carpets and in the kitchen I have no problem if stuff is clean (I found dog hair on a "clean" fork in the drawer...bit gross...). Other than cleanliness I think as long as your dog has manners inside she realistically doesn't have anything to whinge about.
  4. Is there any such thing as doggy earplugs?
  5. Can't think of anything more disgusting. I actually gag when a dog licks my face.
  6. Eeewwww the licking after a shower is disgusting!! I can't stand being licked by any dog, I don't care if it's been washed two minutes before and has it's mouth disinfected - still disgusting. My dog doesn't really do anything weird. Although if you confuse him he just sits & looks at you and whines
  7. More or less constantly :p I want SO many breeds but pretty much have it down to definitely wanting a Silky terrier, Golden Retriever & German Shepherd at some point. Chinese Crested would be awesome as well (maybe same time as the Silky, because they're small & spunky ) I quite like Aussie Shepherds too so wouldn't pass one of them up! I do really want my next dog to be a puppy though...I haven't had "my own puppy" since we got my little dog Poco who's 14 now. My current dog was from the in-laws' farm and 3 yrs old when I got him! And he's naturally very timid/uninterested/difficult to motivate so it's a challenge to get him motivated enough to teach him tricks. (Although, in the 2 or so years I've had him we've managed, sit, drop, stay (still working on) & some kind of beg where balance on his back legs/bottom ) I'm planning for a puppy now, can't do much about it yet though seeing we're going to be renting as of next year (YAY city living) but as soon as we get our own house...........PUPPY!!
  8. I was gonna say horse rope too! I've seen them hold onto horses learning to tie up (they *will* try) haha and they don't let go! And they last for ages - I lost a rope for a couple of years...came across it and after cleaning it up it was in great nick! (was half buried, probably had been driven over a few times, rained on, etc...)
  9. I feed my boy working dog food "Alert". Tried googling it to see if it's under a higher brand somewhere but I couldn't find it My little Silky X Maltese LOVES My Dog. Too fussy for anything else although they do feed her Advance dry food. She's in great nick for her age (14)
  10. I would take "Taking back the dog you bred" to mean, take it into your own home/good friend/family member home temporarily then work on finding said dog a new home... Sometimes a breeder may have things going on (I dunno...overseas trip, family issues, etc.) - rendering them unable to take back a dog straight away. Or does that make them a bad breeder too?
  11. I get excited when my dog runs out to greet me when I'm coming in the driveway he does the cutest leaps for joy I feel special.
  12. IMO you've hit the nail on the head m-sass. :)
  13. I always feel bad walking past... Being an eldest child has subjected me to "be quiet, the baby's asleep!!!" for most of my life (four younger siblings) so I always worry when there's a dog barking that someone's baby is going to be woken up or the poor mother who's trying to have an afternoon sleep!! Or it just plain scares the crap out of me, especially when it sounds like it's behind me because I always instantly assume it's out of it's yard Let alone my dog...I practically have to drag him past barking dogs...he has no balls, literally.
  14. My dog spent the first 3 years of his life outside and lived inside for a while when I was living with friends (their dog, similar breed, is an inside dog so it just worked out that way rather than kicking one dog out all the time...) adjusted fine :) house training was an issue but I think if he were a puppy it would've been very different. He was a bit bewildered for a little while with the louder noises inside but got used to it in no time When I got him he was also pretty unsocialised - so very timid. Since I got him I've been taking every opportunity to get him used to going out and being around different people. Now when people visit he'll come and greet them rather than hide So as long as the breeder spends time with the pups and gets them used to humans and possibly even other animals I don't think whether they're raised inside or outside is too much of a problem.
  15. Those emails were super hard to read...does remind me of reading a scam letter/email thing I wouldn't trust her either.
  16. My BC loves it when I give him a frozen bone (I get bags from the butcher - super cheap!) on hot days He runs off with it and chomps away for the next half an hour or so
  17. What a depressing community... Wouldn't any children born and brought up there, with no exposure to dogs (or any animals???) be crap-scared if they decided to move away (for who knows, uni or something...) to a community where dogs and pets in general are the norm? That's like my personal dystopia
  18. I know a dog like this. Used to get walked heaps but since the owners had a baby that's fallen by the wayside and the dog is now a fat lump on skinny little legs I pointed it out as politely as possible and they reckon she's just "filled out" and is "really solid" um no, it's all fat. When she runs it wobbles
  19. Isn't he beautiful :) so lovely to see them doing their jobs!! Thanks for putting up the pics
  20. My dog has free range when I'm home (otherwise he goes to work with OH, on the farm) and every time I go outside he comes out from under the house or under the car We go for walks and he loves them and at the in-law's place (where most of the work is on the farm) he gets to see all his dog buddies in the dog runs. Over there they run themselves silly twice a day and half of them go out on the ute (crated safely on the back) for the day. Damn good life I reckon! They get to go places and smell different things.
  21. Definitely not selfish :) It's not as far, but my little dog (Silky X Maltese )went from Perth > Sydney > Wagga Wagga then boarded at a kennel until my family and I got there - she was just happy to see us! Didn't seem to bother her! But she's a pretty tough little thing :) she wasn't exactly young either - about 11 at the time. Dogs are generally pretty optimistic little animals :)
  22. That crossed my mind too Something I've pondered though, are dog allergies different to say, bee sting allergies in that there aren't the injections that you can get to help you become less allergic?
