Fish Heads: How To Make Them More Appealing
hankdog replied to Chequeredblackdog's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is just no way a jolly great fish head can be made appealing...ever. -
Oh Cookie is so gorgeous, I couldn't do rescue, the first few dogs would just never find other homes. Salukibel, she really has the most elegant body, that's quite a breathtaking photo. Very dramatic. I'm so enjoying watching baby Clay grow up but I didn't realise how quickly puppies turn into real dogs. Blue is definitely his colour. Love the ears on the gang, that would have been hours of posing to get 4 all with ears on straight. Jake has smoosh face this week, he's fallen asleep on his paws and his head has slid forward.

Oh I love the "Zoro" bunny, been a minute and I'm still laughing. Mind you I stalk the frenchie forum when I need a smile. Jake was doing his suffering, hard put upon dog for the first photos but then suddenly did a zoomie. Some of the funniest shots were therefor bloopers but they made me smile. Yes mum, your turn to embarrass me... and he's off lose the tail shake off the ears

Well 6 days of good behavior would be huge. Pretty sure charging Great Danes don't count, in fact not reacting would have been unusual. Are you back home yet or still away? -
Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread

Ok all my reactive dog friends, party's on Jake tonight!! First ever calm, non-barking, non/ lunging run past a dog today. We had a good walk, Saturday morning so quite a few run always that pushed us off course and as we came up over the last hill to home there was a golden retriever sitting on the corner of the cross street. We ran away and then stopped and had a serious discussion. I explained to him that changing direction was going to add 15 minutes to the walk and that would be all up hill and we decided to go for it. We started running came over the hill and he looked for the dog and just calmly came with, he had a couple of looks at it and once we were about 10 m past slowed to walk and checked it out, got a few treats and then walked on. This will probably not happen next time, he was tired, the dog was a placid golden retriever and we had a chance for a preview so he knew what to expect. All the planets were aligned but if it can happen once then it can happen again!!! You are the best dog Jake???? -
I can so relate, my boy has no play behavior so I'm trying to teach him to retrieve using clicker. I have a bunch of squeaky toys but he would rather use his paw than his mouth to make them squeak. Today whilst doing his shuttles between hoops he grabs a tea towel buttoned onto the cupboard and starts shaking and tugging. So happy I clicked and treated, Unfortunately he was also standing in his hoop so I don't think he "got it". Didn't offer it again...,

My son was bitten by a large black Shepard type dog a while ago. He was jogging past and the on leash dog lunged as he went by, luckily just caught him on the hip so a tear in his shirt and a long furrow in his abs of steel. Apparently owner just shrugged and kept walking, he was 5 km from home without phone so just came home. Talk about needing to pay attention, he was near a children's play park can you imagine if it was a kids face.

Haha her face markings are the like the bull terrier version of the Bernese? (not good with breeds) sitting next to her. I'm fascinated with this doggy day care idea. I'm sure it would have been like bottled water when it first came out....people laughed and said why would you buy water when it's free out a tap. So you take her and she spends the day with a bunch if other dogs. Do they have a garden area or go walking during the day? Do you get an end of year concert???????

I have one that I use for practicing stays when out, he's reactive so can't practice off leash. It was expensive and said 50kg breaking strain so I've just trusted it. I think they have their uses but not for pretending to be on leash. I like the idea of a set leash length but like most rules will only be as good as its policing

Thankyou woofnhoof, Im going to save that for whenever I need a giggle!

So what's the solution? I was thinking whilst out walking that maybe in order to get your dog licensed you should have to attend some sort of training session? Would that even help though or are these people not going to care. My guess is their dogs are off leash because they don't have leash manners and would be pulling their owners arms off. No more off leash parks, do you think they encourage the attitude that it's ok to walk in the streets off leash?

My old dog did this when his arthritis got bad so it could be his back legs cause him pain when he tries to hold the position.

I need to celebrate the good moments because it's so easy to feel like it's such an uphill stuggle and you aren't getting anywhere a lot of the time. Exactly Teekay! Every moment that they do the right thing you frame. Welcome maddogdodge, Jake managed to get over his people problems quite quickly. he is very good at sitting to greet at the door and he will demand a treat for quietly walking past on the street. Corvus, what is an SEC reaction please? -
My area is full of off leashers. I thought I was just over sensitive because my boy is DA but have met 2 people who have recently moved into the suburb who complain about the high number of large off leash dogs. People look at my boy as if he is awful but they don't realise how quickly their "friendly" rushing over for an "in your face" greeting will turn into an awful DA dog when he gets the wrong reception. Just today had to deal with a roaming fairly aggressive cattle dog and a possibly just overly friendly husky cross. My most dreaded creature is mum with pram and kids who refuses to leash her exuberant Newfie because its too hard to control him and the pram!!!!Seriously.

Haha you are so tempting me, unfortunately there just isn't enough Prozac for the crazy eyed bulldawg...... or is there! That dunb ass blood hound looks adorable.

Jake adores my son and he's looking up at him here and I think you can just see how much he loves him..... or maybe just the sandwich he's eating! Oh Bella I've looked at that pic a few times and its still cracking me up. I love Bronsons' face when the girls are having a kiss, just says "gosh, those silly kissy girls" Gertrude I can just about smell wet dog in your picture. Clay has lost his blue eyes but definitely working on his "who me I didn't do anything wrong" face. The most beautiful pic this week definitely is Harvey, lovely colours and his expression is so noble.

Pht Nek you're just showing off because you know what a Sarplaninac is????

Well done Jelly, broken dogs can be so consuming. That's a huge achievement getting yourself out and about. I hope you enjoy your trip away.
-
Oh I think so. Lets have batty dog day at Nekhbets' house! Lets give them all red cordial and sugary cupcakes just for good measure, then we can let them off leash and see what happens.
-
Cooper looks beautiful, those are lovely ears. Justice looks like he just ate a lemon!
-
Mmmm wondering if driving my random mental dog to Melbourne on a weekly basis would qualify me as mental.....probably! Careful Nekhbet you could wake up tomorrow to a bunch of batty dogs at your front door.

Sorry about Crowley, but I have to say lucky you, you got a Hank. Hanks are the best dogs, ever!

I had never heard of this breed until I saw them here. I'm such a huge fan of how they look I think I will have to try go to a show and meet some. She's beautiful.
