  1. I have a reactive dog and we believe he may have not been given an escape route when young so if not allowed to choose flight when confronted then fight is your other option. Most of the work I do with my trainer is trying to teach him to turn away from other dogs and to trust that I will always allow him to leave a situation he is uncomfortable with. I think it's good that she asks you for help by coming to you when uncomfortable and I would say it would be a good thing to always remove her from the situation. Not sure about the picking up but if you want to carry on your conversation then she will feel safe and trust you to look after her. If a dog feels it has to defend itself then they're probably going to fight. Trust me you don't want her to feel like she has to make her own decision when confronted. Not a lot of fun trying to train them out of that mode. Steve's an excellent trainer, I switched because its too far for me to go weekly but he's very thorough.
  2. That's one of my favourite dog photos ever CC, no idea what he's thinking but darn it's good! Anothrt one fir the favourite Justice photos, love his puppy crack one too.
  3. I think frenchies come with about the same price tag. I would definitely say buy from a registered breeder with a good reputation only. They are a phenomenally strong dog and don't be fooled by their looks, they are smart. I reckon mine takes 5 minutes to learn but takes 5 weeks to weigh up the consequences of changing his behavior. Big warning though, once you've had one you'll want another. They have their own special magic.
  4. Happy Birthday gorgeous!! Cutest of the cute.
  5. Mmmm wonder if they really enjoyed it? Photo 2 smiles are the biggest I've ever seen.
  6. Happy Birthday! Very good looking bunch.
  7. I have one and they're really adjustable and very safe. There is one plastic clip but it's between the metal rings that the leash clips through so even if the clip suddenly disintegrated the rings are backup.
  8. Tlc I've worked out what Cooper reminds me of, the dragon in the 80's movie Neverending Story. Krisilin, love the little orange Peanut doing a photobomb.
  9. Beautiful, neighbour a while back had a Visla. Way he told it he thought he bought a VW but later found it was a Ferrari, no brakes!
  10. If I'm in the kitchen and he has to go past me, which he suddenly needs to do a lot when I'm cooking, then he has to squeeze through the one inch gap between my legs and the cupboard. If I'm sewing then his bone ends up under the desk, all the time, never on the patio or the ten square meters around me. Lots of squashing and frantic pawing under the table. Pick up icky bone throw it out the door. Rinse, repeat.
  11. Maeby I have the no bones inside rule too. No idea how to enforce it? Went to bed last night and had a good look. Relief, no gritty bits and now I know I will stick to boy dogs. Seems easier to control what falls put of their nether regions.
  12. OT but I'm the noisy bulldog in your area, come say hi if you see us. Daisy bought a tear to my eye as she looked like my old boy, can't believe she's one suburb away. Well done for all the work you've done.
  13. That's great to hear that you're all doing well. Rally O looks like fun.
  14. I grill Basa fish fillets if my boy is having an allergy attack. Sometimes he can be fine with just mixed protein etc but I think every now and then nature conspires to release all the pollen and be damp and warm at once. Maybe the extra hormones and heat of babies is making her itchy. Bulldog puppies, congratulations you must be in puppy heaven.
  15. Oops late again, as punishment I'll post two then. My lovely daughter was home last week and had a lot of fun teaching Jake to crawl. Learning some agility skills and one day I'll get the whole focus thing!
  16. Well done very nice video, I know how tricky it is to do all those edits.
  17. Seeiously good giggle therapy!!!
  18. I agree that this particular case will be hard to tell exactly what happened but yes I do think if your dogs on lead it is your job to keep it and other dogs safe. The biter is also now at risk because of the incident. I think people assume every dog is safe to greet and regard dogs that are not so as the exception. I think it should be the other way around and people should assume that unless an owner expressly invites you to meet then dogs should be kept separate. Dog parks are the place for dog free for all. I definitely think letting a dog get close to a fence is not really a great idea.
  19. Just my 5 cents worth, if both dogs were on leash and the poodle owner allowed her dog to get close enough to get bitten whilst the other dog was displaying agressive signals, who would you consider to be responsible? If the staff was on leash and the poodle ran over on one if the extendable leashes, who is then responsible? Just so my cards are on the table I own a DA dog and whilst I keep him securely leashed I frequently have to fight off the "don't worry he's friendly " brigade. I think this is a tragic situation but looking at the fence I do think the poodle owner has some responsibility for allowing her dog to be close enough to the gap.
  20. That's amazing that you can bike ride with her though PME, I haven't used my TS out and about yet as he gets really hot, can't wait for cooler weather Haha Corvus I don't think we are Vicki's dream client. Unfortunately we do end up sensitizing her dogs . It's funny I don't find Jake scary but in conversation with some friends the other day I said as much and there was an awkward silence. Turns out other people find him scary, and I'm actually quite easily intimidated by dogs. Somehow I just see a desperate little dog frightened to a frenzy but others see a barking bulldog.
  21. Sorry PA lots of experience but no solution. Just had such a eureka moment though. I took our mat up the drive to start working out and about with it. He had just put himself in a sit when a little dog popped out from behind a ute. He went normal nuts but the other dog just sat down and looked at him. Mmm what to do? He came in between my legs which is favored barking spot so I just waited him out and as soon as he paused for breath clicked him. No response the first two times but third time he took a treat. We carried on for a few more barkus interruptus and he finally stepped down to a solid stare and then right down to LAT looks and finally walked himself away. I'm really happy that he is starting to be able to bring himself down from flat out, this is the first time "in the wild" and not in a training session.
