That's why we need BSL... I nearly died laughing ????.

Our council has a pamphlet listing the fines for various offences including $550 for a dog rushing at a person or on leash dog. Round three with a nasty pair whose behaviour is escalating and I've dropped them a copy in their mailbox with a friendly- ish handwritten note asking them to please contain their dogs. Next time I'll photograph and ask the ranger to get involved. Occasionally dogs get out and no ones perfect but if its a pattern then it's time they started being more aware.

Cu For Anxious Dogs And Also Impulse Control
hankdog replied to Loreley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Darn no miracle copper supplement! My mistake was saying "look at the dog" which I use with whatever he freaks at. Unfortunately he decided to freak out at my OH's female work colleague....half way through pointing at her saying "look at the um..." -
I'm so sorry, that's awful. Rest in peace doggie.

Mine has separation anxiety so I'm not supposed to make a fuss coming and going. He knows this now so he does a weird I'm not excited thing, he tucks his top lip behind his bottom teeth and then walks around me in circles huffing and puffing. It cracks me up I'm good for about 30 seconds and then he gets a pat and a laugh.

She's going to need to do some serious post natal sit-ups. She does have that dreamy preggy look.

Best Bones For Keeping Teeth Healthy?

Best Bones For Keeping Teeth Healthy?
hankdog replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gosh Jake would faint if I gave him a pigs head! My butcher cuts a beef cannon bone length ways and then in half. He's not big on raw meat but will chew the hard end of the bone and spend ages licking out the marrow. Otherwise lamb shanks, I cut most of the meat off and cook it for treats. I tried smaller bones but with his large back throat and front teeth that don't meet I didn't feel they were safe. -
Sounds fun, guess that's going to be Jakes breakfast bowl!

Zipp and Zig, seems like destiny. She's beautiful and Zig looks very happy cuddled up to her. I admire you for taking in a foster. It'll be interesting training two dogs at the same time, maybe Zig will whisper in her ear and tell her how to be a star. -

Wow time has flown with Zig, seems like yesterday he was the intrepid beginner. Whose the new foster, does Zig love having a playmate? I'm sure you'll ace it SL. Christine I just faked the confidence initially. The one good thing is Jake is quite good once I step in front of him and get the big girl panties on he stays behind me and I've sort of perfected just moving him around behind me and keeping myself directly facing the oncoming dog. I have a rehearsed action plan, I talk to myself out loud "here we go , shoulders up and eye on the dog, I can hold it together". I've actually surprised myself by how I can keep calm inside by just making the outside appear calm. I talk the whole way through but don't shout because I think it adds energy to the scene, I ignore the dogs owner if they start shouting. Also I won't leave the scene until we are both calm and in control and have had a good sit and focused look at each other. We have the street sorted and we leave when I say so which is basically when I get my legs working without falling over but it's been a very good mental habit for both of us. -

Yep $550 is the fine for a dog rushing at someone, I get one of those at least every second week. $220 for dog off leash so that would be three a week, so about $4000 a month I could raise for council. I'd deduct a finders fee and maybe the rest could be used to patch the potholes in my street. after that maybe section off the dog park for little and big dogs. So many good ways to spend that money. -
Haha, we have lump twins. It was a bit scary because multiple vets were called in to make frightening "oohs" and "we better be quick" noises over his lump. It turned out to be encapsulated and they managed to get a clear margin so little chance of return. After crashing on the couch for two days by three o'clock I came home with goods news, cleaned the house, baked three loaves of banana bread and pieced a quilt in one day but "no, I wasn't worried!" Hopefully you get good news and the infection clears up, such a worry when the little guys are pooky.

Awww you big goofball, I love him.

Jake being all sleepy and smooshy after his operation. Gertrude she looks in good nick for eleven, hope she finds a loving home, it's sad that an oldie is looking for a home. I think your new lenses are working well that picture almost looks 3D. Golly good lurk Harvey.

When Were You Convinced Your Dog Could Understand English?
hankdog replied to Leah82's topic in General Dog Discussion
When I came home from a walk and he was wet from his clam shell dip.I walked in to the kitchen and told him to sit on the towel and he did. Gave him a dry and because he was shivering told him "where's your jumper?" purely rhetorical but he wondered around and then sat on it where it was lying at the bottom of the stairs. -

My OH said I should call council and offer to revenue raise for them if they deputise me! -
I think the point I'm trying to make is that there are people who seem to find caring for disabled beings quite rewarding. It's the kind of dog this family seem to prefer, in the same way some of us own dogs for hunting, showing or companionship they own them to care for. That's their deal. How much you see animals and humans on the same spectrum is a different discussion.
-
I'm also on the fence, I used to do a bit of work in a school for seriously disabled children, I worked with the more able bodied soles but there were some staff who very cheerfully dealt with the severely disabled. To my mind disability is on a spectrum and each person has their own subjective line. There do seem to be people who have a natural ability to care for disabled creatures and thrive on it, as these people seem to. The world needs them. I've only had a quick look at the pictures and my personal line is way before Rosie but theirs isn't. If the dog is pain free then I'm ok with that but I'm a bit negative about the Facebook page or need for publicity, I find that somewhat in the freakshow realm.

Just done this with Jake. He always high 5's with his left so I gave him the same signal with the other hand and then just nudged his shoulder. Reward for slight lift and then build on it. Now I'm using a square piece of plastic in my left and a round lid in my right. Apparently different shape is easier than just different color. Next week I'm going to glue the shapes on sticks and then see what bizarre things we can get happening.
