Well for many people every off leash dog is a danger. I have a reactive dog so any dog running up to me is a potential fight, my dog has the right and if he's to be retrained, the need to walk unaccosted. Many elderly or infirm people cannot walk their dogs for fear of a fall if they're involved in a friendly or not mellee with an off leasher. People reliant on their dogs for assistance are placed in danger if their dog is involved with another. I believe their are certain religions that are not too happy about dog contact either, you don't have to agree but you should respect that. I propose no more laws but some funding to police existing laws. I don't know who to vote for in the next election, first pollie to give funding to dog rangers can have my vote.

Good to hear from you Snook. Missing photos and updates on the J- dawg. I've been quite aware of the above effects with Jake and in one if Corvus' links there was also something about fatigue. Interestingly though and now I can't find the article, giving sugary treats and keeping the brain in glucose may help the dog overcome fatigue. I find with Jake the first ten minutes of a walk are "bouncy" and he won't be good with dogs. Then you can throw quite a few at him for about 20 minutes, then he's tired and goes back to batsh@! for about twenty minutes but after that you can pretty much throw anything at him. I'm not sure if the sugar from the peanut butter kicks in or what but its quite predictable. -
I've often thought that should one of the many off lead fluffies get to Jake he would probably be blamed for doing damage. I just had to cut my walk short because of an off leash BC roaming next to a four lanes of traffic. I really think any efforts to stop attacks should take into account that any dogs behaviour is an interaction between the dogs temperament (that may or may not have anything to do with it's breed) and the way the dog is managed. The worst of dogs correctly managed is going to be less of a problem than a normal dog allowed to roam and do as it pleases. This weekend I'm taking hubby and video to get some footage of two littles terrors who are allowed to patrol and attack in their street. Last week my daughter blocked them whilst I got Jake past and the one had a go at her. I'm finally out of patience with them.

I can nearly smell the puppy breath, so adorable. Widgets going great guns getting her figure back.

Oh poor Stan, Big hug to him. I get rushed a lot but luckily so far only by little dogs, I thought it was just because of how Jake looks that we attract nasty attention. There is such a need for dog training and owner education so those creating the problem understand how their actions are affecting others.

Oh I definitely think you should join. More the merrier and I'm thinking a happy staffy will be lots of fun to see.

If I was coming to your house for the first time I'd probably say hello over the fence and hope they would bark and summon you. It wouldn't differ for the type of dog but I would find a pair a lot more intimidating than a single dog. Definitely getting smarter as I get older, or is it paranoid?

Yep, I get lots of advice from passersby because I'm rewarding my dog for being naughty! Very thick skin needed sometimes.

Keeping My Dog's Focus On Me - Not Other Dogs

Excellent work. Hopefully your well trained staffy might do something to counter the prejudice against bull breeds that exists. Do keep us updated its lovely to hear good results, keeps us in the salt mines inspired. -
He's very beautiful, a credit to all who helped him.

She's really lovely. I love seeing a pack of the same breed of dogs together. A pack of basslets would really cause a big smile.

Just keeping you on your toes Staffyluv. -
Had a nasty labradoodle at our park that finally bit someone and was destroyed. You could see it coming for years of mismanagement from the owners though. Have we really solved the nature vs nurture issue so clearly for dogs when we haven't for people? Eugenics and breeding police don't seem to be a likely substitute for correct socialization and training, of either people or dogs.

I'm sure he's very grateful for your care. Feel better Widget, you're so beautiful.????

Welcome Hankodie. It's bad enough having a reactive dog but health issues confusing the matter is tough. Hopefully someone here will have had a similar problem. Thank dog mine is food motivated otherwise I'd have nothing since he doesn't have any interest in toys. -
Jake is possibly part Frenchie and he is way more stubborn than my previous pure British bulldogs. He walks well on leash now but after many failed methods I finally cracked loose leash walking by stopping every time he pulled. Six weeks of stopping every ten steps and then we got there but we still need to check every walk first few hundred meters. Dies she sleep in the bed after she's wee'ed in it. Could you just leave it so she gets a stinky wet bed and see if that deters her?

I'm so impressed. We had our training session today and Jake did so well. Zoe wanted to work on getting some focus rather than working for bribes. We worked on stays and going up and down and cutting out rewards. I know I over reward but it was quite funny to watch myself go for the treat bag every time she told me to give Jake a command. He went through a small attempt at jelly bones but gave up and came back looking keen and vaguely like a normal, want to please dog. My daughter was watching and she said at one point she was laughing thinking "not this dog" but turns out he's just like any other dog if you just get the timing right. -
Does she look a bit like lady Di? Beautiful blue eyes looking out under a blonde fringe.

All the best Bruno, hoping for grade one and clear margins!

Haha no we all live peacefully together. We tried very hard to get a no prey drive dog.
