Are you getting baby Perkins. how exciting. I have four and they have great personalities. Photos a must!
-
Well Jakes probably a kilo overweight but it's behaviour before health in his case. Unfortunately the only thing that's worked to get him past other dogs is to let him lick peanut butter. So if anyone wants to have a go at me yep, no worries here's the lead, go for it. So far it's that or PTS. Rest of his food is given in training treats.

Another good example of why bulldogs rock. I saw a TV show on this dog, his owner didn't deliberately train him apparently he just started copying the owner. Apparently he is either skating or surfing or waiting to skate and surf. He loves it so much they have to limit the amount of time on the skateboard because he'll wear out his footpads.

Jake had another slammer......I need a new vet. If I'd have not stayed with him he would have bitten someone or something, They just have no idea on handling him. He had a strange reaction to the initial sedation, his back end went to sleep but he was crying and thrashing with his front end. What I thought was going to be a biopsy turned out to be complete removal. He's had a kong cloud on until today but he managed to rub his face on the floor and tear the stitches out today. Despite all that he seems to be remarkably cheerful. I don't know if it's the training or after a year the Prozac has kicked in or possibly his new food. He seems to be more playful and happy in the last two weeks, today at training he was rolling around getting belly rubs and we were right next to the kennels. I gave him to our trainer and disappeared around the corner and he worked very well for her. I've been asking him to heel when we pass dogs, figured I might divert all that extra go he gets and it's working surprisingly well. I guess training the heck out of him isn't going to make him dog friendly but at least it will make him more obedient whilst in the presence of other dogs and that's really all I can ask for. Sorry this is a bit long. Just needed a bit of a vet rant. ETA. If you want to see how Jake screams check out the frenchie in the thread of immense lol's. Guess it confirms his frenchie half!! -
I'm just amazed at how smart some of these dogs are. I'm sure it's annoying but you have to admire their determination.

Blegh, Blegh,Blegh....I'll take my reactive nutjob if a dog over that any day.

I'm all for prospective dog owners having to do a course. Might stop some of the "unforeseeable" accidents and impulse buying of puppies and ensure there's some basic etiquette.

And this is the last thing you see before a butcherbird has a try at pulling your hair.

Have a whole packet of chocolate biscuits. I have a reactive dog who will bite so I have learned what is known as "the voice of god" or in my words getting the big girl panties on. Stand in front. get your really biggest, deepest voice and command them to go away. It's scary so you can practice at home but you get used to it and its surprisingly effective. You were taken by surprise today but unfortunately there are so many irresponsible owners that its going to happen again.

Jake cooling off in the waterfall and mother duck is keeping an eye on him. I love Clays new toy, funny how some .colours seem to match dogs, blue is definitely Clays colour

What Trick Are You Teaching Your Dog

She's great, so much go! -
She's savaging that poor bully. So adorable, tail wagging so fast.

I've been trying for ages. I can get a run out pick up and make a toy squeak or mouth and take a toy out my hand, sometimes he'll take a step toward me with it. Have you tried a very furry toy, this can bring out some prey drive and sort of got Jake to mouth on a toy. My trainer said some dogs are just not very interested in the retrieve thing.

This is our little Tim, he and his brother fell out of their nest last Sunday. I replaced his slightly bigger sibling back with the third baby. The nest is small for three and I figured he would just end up on the floor again so I rigged a nest in the tree and his parents are feeding him by day and I bring him in and top him up with mealworms at night. I'm considered the enemy and although they turn up to beg treats when I'm training Jake they bomb me at other times.

Hard to choose a favorite but I like them all lying on the quilt. Funny koalas they've got over there. Thanks tlc always puts a smile on my face.

I did the stop, don't move until you sit and added the look a bit later but in hindsight I would add the look right in the beginning. We are walking together but you pay attention to me. I'm not sure of the details but pups go through developmental fear periods which could explain why she's glued to you at the moment.

Do You Like It When Strangers Interact With Your Dogs?
hankdog replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs fairly easy to read, if you're one of the few people he doesn't like he's very vocal. He's always double leashed and I'm very careful to make him sit and give him a treat before people are allowed to pat. Most are wary of actually patting him but some will come over for a chat now which I love. He used to not look approachable and I work from home so walking my dog is a pleasant social break for me and its an indication of how much his behaviour has improved that people feel ok about having a chat. Hank was big and didn't like being patted by strangers, he would placidly tolerate pats or step back behind me but he was an absolute people magnet. It's a great way to get to know my neighbourhood. -

Huge win today????????????We've been working within earshot of the kennels when training but today we worked in the shade of the kennel block wall. It was quite fun using the bit of extra alert to get some nice heeling and more rapid recalls rather than the normal bulldog speed. We were doing a sit stay when a dog walked across the carpark about 40m away. Jake instantly reacted by barking and yelling but since he didn't seem inclined to break I just kept looking at him. After about 10 seconds he looked at me, whimpered and then shut up. As soon as he was quiet I went and gave him a huge pat and lots of peanut butter. I'm so happy, almost more than if he hadn't reacted because it shows he was able to keep thinking, he stayed in place and he calmed himself down, no words from me, no peanut butter, all by his little self. I happen to own the best dog on the world???????? ETA Maybe I'll hold that thought until his repeat vet trip tomorrow. -
Yay impending awesome foursome. Have missed the fluffies.

I guess with a Dane it's counter schmoozing not counter s surfing. Does she have a particular dislike of the Labrador? Jakes quite specific, Black and brown labs are worse than death, yellow not so bad. -
My boy went right through all the kibbles with no success until I tried the Purina one from the supermarket. The highly recommended zd had us out at two am with the runs. It just depends on your dog. Jake can't take rice either.

Choking Vs Reverse Sneezing Vs Allergy
hankdog replied to Genkitravels's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've had my bulldog( who is possibly a frenchie cross) operated on for the palate and nasal issues. The surgery is so worth it, he is able to walk for 90 minutes and that dreadful redoing snore is gone. We went through the antihistamines and finally settled on Polaramine, it's not 100% effective but keeps him under control. -
I have a very allergic bulldog, his white bits are more prone to breakout strangely. He has a Polaramine a day and can't have beef at all. He chews on a lamb shank bone as those are big enough for him not to swallow. I leave a bit of meat on but not all, a weight watching issue. He can have chicken but not for too many days in a row and once cooked I skim off the fat. Although he's not overly find of it fish is the best food for him, I actually buy the human salmon and vegetable fishcakes and he's really good on those. I tried a chicken frame once but he bit down once and then swallowed so no more of those. He gets bathed every ten to fourteen days, once I see him starting to look a bit pink, I use Fido dog shampoo, it's the one seemed to be best for him. Definitely a clam shell, Jake lives in his. I think it's a matter if playing around and finding what works best for him. I call mine the Billdog.

Unfortunately he can't be fitted with a muzzle because he doesn't have a nose to put in it. He's normally ok with people but there's one vet he doesn't like. He has a biopsy on Friday but they've agreed to let him come in before opening hours and then they'll sedate him, and then maybe me too.????I have everyday situations mostly managed when it's just the two of us. Add other people or dogs and it's a bun fight.
