Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread

That is good news, once you're confident that also transmits to the norty dog I think. How old is he ? I was once told that three was the magical age at which dogs grew a brain? Don't forget lots of treats for good behavior. -
On Maeby I hope he's ok. So worrisome when they have health problems.

Thats pretty identical to the two thousand dollar spot Jake had on his face. Started as a tiny nothing then grew to a square centimeter in a week. Two rounds of antibiotics and one of inappropriate surgery and we ended up at the specialist. It was fungal and responded well to a course of Nizoral. He has had a tumour so I freaked out over the whole thing. The specialist just dabbed over it with some Sellotape. Hope yours is the same and nothing to worry about.

Oh thank you, Jake desperately wants a snood! I love how the Greys look like deer in their snoods. particularly the first one since the colour is right. -
Kepala looks like so much fun, all Sydney got is a stupid white tiled clam shell! Lovely to see a mix if sizes enjoying each others company. Glad you got the camera mojo back!

Because of his feet? He's developed a licking habit, unfortunately. Oh another norty thing Jake gets from his frenchy side then. I use quit itch which is basically betadine foot baths daily. Helps the fungus plus tastes gross so breaks the habit. -

Funny that's exactly how Jake makes me feel. I know it's separation anxiety but it is nice to someone's "so so special" person. I love when he gives me his little "please help me " nudges. Does not get old. -

It's hard to know how much his eye problems influence his reactivity, whether he can control which eye he sees out of and how he interprets what he sees. Last week my trainer was mentoring a new trainer and I heard her say that whilst obedience training doesn't normally work for aggression Jake is the exception. I guess he's just an exceptional dog! We had neighbors that I've met walking around last night and it was nice to hear them say that seeing Jake at home they now understand why I haven't PTS. He is such a great dog around kids, he sits watching them for food but doesn't beg or get pushy. He will do all his tricks and he's solid enough to not get underfoot with them. He has a nice way of being around them and being happy to be patted but not running around or being a nuisance. -

I love animated digs at heel. Well done Zig, as you say the stay is a no matter what . Im sure he will ace it next time! -
I'm so sorry this ended this way but is probably better for the pup. Fir your own mental health consider moving, the constant stress will eat itself into your life. No house is worth the anguish.

I wonder if reactive dogs are qualitatively different. BAT seems to wind Jake up, both within a session and over sessions. We worked with an on-leash dog last week and he's better if he stays focused on the dog. You can calm him looking at the dog but if you try turn him he gets upset. He will turn himself and run away but then he's quite stressed. -
Bait-sized, haven't heard that for years!

Having too much time on my hands I was thinking about what and why I like certain dogs. My early childhood dog was a Dalmatian. I always like black and white dogs, not either on their own but a nice mixture. I think of dally sized dogs as normal size. Shorter than my knee is small, taller than a ridgeback is large. Little dogs like poodles and so on are "lapdogs". It doesn't impact my size decision as to weight, Jake is a small dog even though he's 24 kg and those slim lightweight kelpies are normal because of their height. I was wondering how other people divide up the various dog sizes, shapes and breeds?

hahaha that picture makes up for the missing ones. Hilarious.

That's annoying Gertrude but I wouldn't call it a failure. More a temporary interruption of outstanding success. Im sure your doggies missed you and will be eager to pose for lots of catch up pictures. Harvey does look very wooly in that picture I can see why Velcro might not be the best idea.

Teach "here" as a station with a clicker, I included a touch on my thigh with his jaw, gets him close and straight. Also between two or three people, everyone has treats.

I love my dog, he's such a good sport! And he can be so stubborn, his favourite garden chair blew over into the firepit, no worries he can still snooze on it.

Jake used to go nuts at the window that looks out to the garage so I put his beanbag there and always leave a chewy thing. This week I've left him for half and hour everyday on his own. When I get home he's always curled up and comfy and yesterday he didn't even wake up. Is the blind she's chewing blocking sight of your leaving direction? If she can see out maybe she won't chew the blind? Although it might wind her up more? Can go either way with dogs can't it?

I used various devices on my 25kg bulldog but the best thing that worked was stopping for ten seconds every time the leash went tight. It took him about a month, and I got to know my immediate neighbors very well since I would stop every three steps but he finally got there. I've seen the underarm sheepskin harness but since it's a similar idea to a halti and she's fine on that why change?

Hank made about 12, not sure if exact age because he was a stray. Started with arthritis at 8 and the last 6 months were tough for him but I think we only went about two days overtime. It's so hard in those situations to know when the right time is. He was hardly grey and healthy in every other way.

In the meantime the Dane rescue website, to which I cannot post a link because of my technophobia, has a really good program for separation anxiety. Has worked with my dog who used to be inconsolable even if left with other family members.

Took me a while to get used to tails on Rotties but now I can't imagine them without. Ari looks like the epitome of everything you'd want in a dog, confident, strong and happy.

Trying to decide if they're giraffes or reindeer. So elegant.
