I'm sorry, tough situation.

I got a too big one then I tied it onto his jumper. Sewed tapes onto his jumper and tied them through the loops on the collar. It meant the collar sat a bit lower and couldn't come off. Houdini worked out how to get the collars off by sticking his head under chair legs and backing out. So much brain power put to bad use!

That's great Snook. It's quite devastating for me when something throws the Tubster and I off the tightrope. You had so much invested in this relationship I can imagine how you were feeling. Lifelines offered by others are so welcome, when my daughter was ill always thought that those offering help were like elephant aunties just helping lift us through. Hopefully you have some elephant aunties for you and J-dawg. -

It's so exciting when they show you they know the rules and are confident to start the sequence. I get some input from people about Jake "working the system" just to get treats. I'm completely fine with that. I think our slightly speshul dogs deserve recognition when they finally get it. She's more interested in her speeded up game and knows you'll play it with her, great work. -
I know pers it's weird. I also find human babies "cute" but not that interesting. Give me a tantrum throwing two year old though and I find that much more interesting! It's probably lucky because I don't really have the ability to say no to anything so I would have probably filled the house with puppies if I did find them irresistible. Maybe i would if it was my own puppy? Anyway it means I'm always more then happy to adopt a grown dog and don't feel I've ever missed out on the puppy stage so that's a bonus.

Haha, my bad maybe I just haven't met the right puppy. Josephine is gorgeous.

I've never had a puppy, spent a bit of time now with a litter just being there if the owner can't. So strange, whilst they are adorable I really look forward to having a romp with the adult dogs. Somehow I don't see the personality in a little one, to me they're cute but all in the same way. The adults though are able to be individuals. I must be broken. We do pass a basset on our walks lately and he even jogs a bit with his owner which is super cute with all his dangly bits flying. They must be very gorgeous babies.

Haha cool. Great action shot. I am trying to learn the different breeds.... So that's a fluffy liver spaniel?

My first vet charged me $80 for a box of Prozac. I lost faith and found a less flashy but more friendly vet who actually told me that it was cheaper to get a script from the chemist. Ren my boy is very reactive, like you if I never took him out I would just have a very sweet at home dog but he also has other fear issues. I think by tackling rather than avoiding the issues I will increase his quality of life. Not easy and I finally understood he will never be dog friendly but the approach that has worked is to train him in obedience and then work closer and closer to dogs so that ultimately they're just another distraction. My present trainer is very open minded and just accepts the Tubster for what he is. I am quite sensitized to people's opinion of him and get uncomfortable around people who dislike him. I guess there's a balance to finding a way of training that is pleasant and enjoyable for the trainer and the dog human partnership. My first sessions he wouldn't look at her now she gets a tail wag and some licks which is great for me to see him relating to other people. I hope you can find a balance with your dog too. -
An Update On Abby Our Miniature Schnauzer

That's great. Particularly the looking at you when scary stuff is around. Eventually she'll look forward to scary stuff and tell you she needs a treat. That's when you do the dance of happiness because she knows the game and is confident playing it. Enjoy your Steve consult, you'll find it very useful. -

Right that would require a special kind of dog. Guess that's back to the drawing board for a trainer then. So annoying how quickly it's all gone south. -

So just when you need her help she's backed away. Thanks for nothing. I can't think of anything useful except to be cranky for you. Would a medium level obedience class maybe be helpful. Somewhere that the dogs are on leash but reasonably obedient. You know all the ropes now so that could maybe just ease him through without costing an arm and a leg? -
Because the Huns have never been a slave nation. You can own a Belgian, and many were. Aussies were convicts so you could own one even though no one, especially the English wanted to. Only a Dachs could truly own a dachshund, the English realised that and hence the putting down on suspicion of espionage. The reason a Springer spaniel doesn't listen to you is because your name is not Springer! So you cannot own a German. Only a german shepherd can, and he just steps out of his hut and yells "hund". Have you noticed all GSD still speak German.

Register for free mulch. It's normally nice big chips and they give you a big pile , for nothing. I have a lovely blue poa grass that's never set seed and is quite soft. The lomandra a are tough but you need to cut off the flower spikes before they go prickly and damage a dogs eye. My friend also has "boxes" really large cubes made of double sleepers, the dogs can jump up on top to catch some sun or sleep underneath for shade. A few at different angles and heights could be a fun feature for dogs to play on. She also has a few crates on stilts that the dogs love to go in and out of. -
The tail wag is an "I want to interact" signal, not necessarily I want to be friends. There's a saying "Pavlov is always on your shoulder" whatever you think you're teaching your dog he is going to be associating a collar grab and harsh words with a fluffy dog. Rather call him to you when you see the dog and give him a reward for positive calm behaviour. Can be a treat it tug or ball. Having owned a large fluffy, bat eared dog it seems they do attract unwanted attention from other dogs.

Aargh is the polite expression. All that progress and one careless day and you go backward. Well at least he chose to avoid and if no one else is complaining of a bitten dog then you know he didn't retaliate on the day. I wonder why there was only one other dog at the class? -

A French martingale leash, so that the dig doesn't have a grey patch from the martingale chain. And a frenchie, preferably a cute pyjamas wearing one like Odie! -

Hi Ren, welcome to the thread. First off have you had a thyroid test done. The one done by Hemopet in USA is a very detailed one and more comprehensive than is done here. My boy is also reactive on sight. He is on Prozac, generic Lovan. It's actually not very expensive if you buy from a chemist rather than the vet. The vet writes a script and you get it filled at a human vet. Jakes also pretty committed to his dog phobia, without medication he doesn't actually have to see a dog. He just has to be in a place where he saw a dog before or smell a dog. Medication just have him a little bit more brain so that some of the training can stick. There is some personality change and we had to play around with the dosage, on 30mg he was too sleepy, on 20 he is manageable but on 15 you get some bounciness. Good for playing but not for his phobias. The first few weeks he will be sleepy anyway. Without medication I would not have been able to get any training in. I was told PTS by a few trainers and may have done so without medication. The loss of some playfulness is a small price to pay. -

Such a shame the reaction from her has gone that way. I always think the measure of a business is how you respond to situations where you've stuffed up. Bad stuff happens, abject apologies and some proactive management would have been more appropriate. I do love your photo, you're as photogenic as Justice. -
Have you thought about prey drive and having an inside bird. One of the primary reasons for getting a bulldog for us was our free ranging cockatiels. If you're in sydney I know an excellent breeder. I'm absolutely smitten with this breed. If I didn't have a norty dog I would have dog napped one of her beautiful dogs.

I have no words. I can only imagine how disappointed you must be. Our speshul dogs really need a good trainer, losing that will be a blow. I do hope Justice doesn't regress and lose all the progress he made with other dogs as a result of his bites. Poor sausage. Losing your real world dog support system is going to be tough, your virtual system is here. Jake and I send you big hugs. -

Jake does my head in. His progress is slow but steady. We had our alternate trainer today and did some good work with a yellow lab, his favourite type of dog. Both dogs moving at the same time, both in a stay, jake sitting and the other dog moving. A few outbursts but I was pretty happy. Then the trainers course was coming out for a practical so the trainer offered to take Jake into the class with them. I stayed at a distance to watch. Off he went, in amongst ten dogs. He was looking for me a bit and not taking treats but aside from that he did great, he was snappy up and down, sitting looking alert and no outbursts. So I took him, we got about ten meters from the dogs and I was so happy and then big outburst. I gave him to the trainer and walked off. All good. I realise splitting his focus meant he was less focused on the other dogs but just lately I've been suspecting that there is a bit of song and dance for my benefit. Rat bag dog!
