How To Fatten Up A Greyhound Pup
olly replied to Cheyenne_Fury's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sounds like she's eating a good amount Have you tried her with lamb flaps? They helped to get some weight on Poppy when she was sick. Stella (5 months, weighs approx 13kg) is eating 1 c Eagle Pack with warm water for breakie, and then another cup of dry with a chicken frame (plus whatever extra goodies are on hand) for dinner. She's slowly putting on weight! If you can't see Zahra's ribs I wouldn't worry too much, Ziggy's probably just going to be a big boy :D -
Oh lillysmum! I really hope Lilly will be ok. I've been through something very similar with Poppy - except she has an inherited form of arthritis. She would scream when lying quietly/not moving. After a long course of cortisone we are keeping it at bay using glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplements. Fingers crossed you get a diagnosis soon and some relief for Lilly.

Has anyone tried this for their dog? Duralactin It's a milk protein that supposedly helps with the inflammatory response. It says you can use it in conjunction with glucosamine supplements.

It's amazing how brave they are isn't it. What a little trouper Ollie is. I know what it's like to be at the vet all the time and I sympathize. Hugs to you and Ollie, and I really hope things start to get better soon.

Poppy (grey) can't stomach coprice (she gets the runs) and it made my Stafford's allergies worse! But each to their own

Hi CBL  Fingers and paws are crossed for you tonight ! I feed Eagle Pack, with chicken and lamb RMB's plus other goodies that I have in the fridge (rice, eggs, sardines, yoghurt, etc). I worked out that it costs about $2 per day per grown dog (a pup would be a bit less). I buy everything in bulk to save. The expensive things can be flea/heartworm/wormer/tick control. Plus vet vaccinations and desexing. But you've probably thought about all that. Greys only need nail clippers and some shampoo for grooming. Plus a soft brush if you like. They also need a coat for winter. Puppy School is also a great idea for socialisation. Good luck

I feed EP with rmbs etc added. It's fabulous and I won't ever change. I have one dog with a sensitive tummy and one with skin allergies and they do very well on it. We buy in bulk from a distributor and get a good price - 15kg for $65 for the natural. By in bulk I mean at least 6 bags at a time

Thanks everyone. Asha is doing ok, she is bit subdued but is getting lots of cuddles (and treats and new toys ) She has been sleeping in Hapi's bed ever since, even at night when she used to prefer her own room. I hope the DOL meet at Wollongong this Sat will be good for her, she loves meeting new people.

Hapi came to live with us 4 months ago with his sister Asha as our first greyhound fosters. He settled in very quickly and claimed “his” bed straight away. It didn’t take long for his personality to emerge, and he became a playful comedian – every day making us laugh out loud with his antics. One thing that was most apparent was his love of life, always rolling in the grass and sleeping in the sun as if he had never felt anything so wonderful before. Hapi went to the vet to have some teeth removed yesterday (29/12/05) and as the surgery was nearing an end his heart stopped beating. After numerous attempts to revive him and 4 ampoules of morphine, our beautiful boy went to the bridge. We are devastated, and shocked. There are no words. The vet said there must have been some underlying illness that led to the anesthetic putting too much strain on his heart. He was the perfect pet, always happy, gentle and so tolerant. I feel privileged to have been given the honor of trying to make the last 4 months of his life the best ones. You will forever be in our hearts Hapi boy.

We also use it here, the holistic fish variety. Morning meal is Eagle Pack, Evening meal is barf. My dogs love it
