Hi MCM, My greyhound Poppy (avatar) has Autoimmune Polyarthritis too. We went through her heavy cortisone treatment about 2.5 yrs ago. She was on a very heavy dose initally, and then it was slowly tapered off over 3 months until she came off it. Took us 3 months and numerous vets to get her a diagnosis. I had one vet diagnose a spinal infection and told me to put her to sleep! Poppy was unusual in that she didn't show any joint swelling until after she had been admitted to the vets because she could no longer stand because of the pain. She's had 2 small relapses since then, but a 2 week course of cortisone has fixed that no problems. Good luck with your boy, and if you want to pm me feel free ;)

Happened to me too - All my dogs are C5'd, sent the foster off to be vacc'd and the temp vet gave her the live vaccine. 3 of my 5 got it as well as the dog that had just been vacc'd.

I've been lucky, the 2 I've had with serious "issues" I was able to return to the racing owner knowing they wouldn't be put down. Both were from the same litter coincidentally. You gave Molly a chance, and that's far more than most of them get. Hang in there, I'm sure carrying on with the grey work will help

Hi Julie :D I'm in Nowra (south of you) and just went up to see Steve at K9 Force 3 weeks ago. Was the best thing I could've done for my dog. For me fear aggro was not an easy thing to overcome or really understand beforehand, but my dog is doing so much better now. Totally worth it IMO

Polly's very cute Sounds like she's settling in well, in a few weeks she'll be a more confident dog.

Hi bluecollie I'm not sure what you mean by shake like a chi? Is she shaking all the time? Like she's in shock or cold or stressed? I've never had a greyhound do that (not even the very scared ones recently rescued). If it were me I'd take her to a greyhound vet and get her checked out. If you need a contact, call your local greyhound track and get them to recommend a good vet. Her teeth will come right with some bones and chicken frames regularly. It's just calculus build up. Pet greys normally have 2-3 ribs showing and the hip "pin bones". She'll put on weight slowly and loose some of her racing muscle as a pet. Greyhounds cope very well in retirement and it's unlikely if she hasn't had any serious racing injuries in her short career that she will have any muscle problems. You might like to do some reading to learn more - here are a few links These are all US sites so not all info will be relevant. They keep greyhounds in crates at the race tracks over there. Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Just remember that everything is new to her - other breeds of dogs, being in a house - carpet/tiles/windows/noises etc. They adapt very quickly though. Good luck with her

I feed 1/2 dry at 6am, the other half at 3pm plus meat. I find the 3pm feed gives them plenty of time to get bowel movements out before bed time.

Thanks everyone for your input. He's not a pup, he's 3 and my friend has had him about 3 months.

My friend and I are 5 weeks into obedience classes. Our instructor has asked my friend to bring along a pump bottle filled with vinegar to squirt her dog (SBT) when he gets excited and lunges towards other dogs. He's not dog aggressive, it's just play. He's very strong. Can I have opinions on this please? Seems a little extreme to me, will it have any negative effect on his interaction with other dogs in future? Thanks

I feed Eagle Pack, never had a grey that wouldn't eat it I feed it wet with a spoonful of sardines or yogurt mixed in.

Hi Brynn, Maybe you could call your vet and ask? A lot of the rescue people give Nutrigel to puppies not doing well.

Where are pics Squeak?? Glad to hear Stormy's doing well I give my girls roughly 10cm square pieces of lamb flaps so they have to chew them up. They luv 'em!
