  1. Ezio is ADORABLE! Hankodie, Nova won't eat when it's too hot (neither do I for that matter), so lately I've been giving him his turkey neck/wing etc, and he buries it almost straight away and will go back to it in the late afternoon/night when its cooler and the meat is well marinated in dirt A few days, it's gotten so hot I've had to bring his normal dinner meal inside to the aircon just so he eats it, I don't want him eating dinner past 9pm when it's finally cool or he'll want to poop at 3am!
  2. I agree, time to call a professional behaviourist. Someone might be able to recommend some in your area. Also if your obedience school is getting you to do the same thing over and over and over again and you realise your dog is loosing interest, you can stop and have a break, play a game etc.
  3. Simply Grand if you are still stalking this thread, I have evidence of sneaky stealing. "Whats in your mouth Nova?" ...nothing at all. Oh oh that, thats a christmas hat from a bon bon.
  4. About a months difference then , Nova was born 6th of May. So so close to Star Wars day
  5. Lollipup our baby pups are growing up! Aliwake, thats a bummer about the humping. Obviously it doesn't hurt anymore though! After agility this morning I let Nova laze inside in the air con. He was like this for a while
  6. Well agility was interesting. Nova was so good for the first half. Then barked his head off the rest of the time. I left before the end because he was getting too hot and he just wanted to lay in the shade or paddling pool they had out there. Good mix of trainers, one is a little old fashioned and the other is really open. So with her help I'm going to continue doing some more foundation work at home and on the side lines.
  7. Yes, I've noticed a lot of yellow labs being dudleys lately, I wouldn't want one if I got another. Nice black eye rims and nose just stand out to me!!
  8. I see most labs as normal sized, mine was extra big so I saw him as large. I get people commenting on how Nova is a big dog, I still see him as quite small at 23kgs and about the height of a border collie already.
  9. I'm so excited! Nova and I are off to our first Agility class today! I've done some foundation stuff at home but haven't done any in class yet.
  10. Completely agree with Perse, if you have perhaps been a bit lenient with him, start getting stricter and enforce NILIF now. Having a 7months old boy myself, I can tell when he tries to test his boundaries, I just stay calm and firm and don't let him get away with it. For example, he broke his recall a few weeks ago, so now he is back on a long line until I deem him trustworthy again (might be a while ). And don't forget to keep making yourself the most exciting thing in the world! You may look a little crazy out in the street but when he starts to look towards the other dogs in the yard make yourself SUPER FUN! High pitched noises, running around (past the house with the dogs) with a favourite toy or food. Should help in training class too
  11. This Bolded part is true. Desexing before the bone growth plates fuse cause them to stay open for longer, can mean weakened bones (higher chance of osteoarthritis) and a slightly taller dog. It's comes down to you weighing up the risks and if you are prepared to look after an entire dog until that age. Instead of relying on blogs and general websites look at the scientific research using GOOGLE SCHOLAR and then think of your options.
  12. Gosh Envy is beautiful! Clumsy but beautiful! Oooh I almost forgot! Nova is 7 months TODAY!
  13. I'm happy not having a destructo puppy this time! I can leave him in the lounge room while I have a shower and not come back to wreckage.
  14. He still hasn't destroyed anything ..Oh wait thats a lie, he ripped out Mums newly planted $200 tree a few weeks ago when we visited.
  15. Oh god I'm feeling the same now, I know the people in there and I feel really bad. I still have about 4kilos left in a bag of pro plan, I feel thats not enough to return it even though technically it is, but this new food I'm switching to is bloody expensive.
  16. Oh Willow! That would of been fun to see! Tikira I'll try and get a photo of his mischief tonight, he give me this look, even if I haven't notice he's grabbed anything he'll just stare at me and I know he's got something in there Littleduck if I was you I'd be looking for a new vet, at very least one that understands a dalmatians dietary needs and doesn't just try to sell you the food they sell! Dotdashdot: You were right, i just got a Petstock christmas card and gift voucher in the mail. I most definitely was one of the highest spenders
  17. For some reason Nova has decided that stealing things is suddenly the best thing EVER! He used to be so trustworthy... the little shit. Tonight alone he has stolen 3x pen, 2 x sock, 1 x nail file, countless pieces of crap like bread clips and pegs that I'm not even sure where he's finding them. He's not a very food driven dog so some of these things he doesn't want to swap for a treat! He's not very cunning though and hasn't figured out running away is fun yet. But downfalls of having a dog that tugs like crazy is that he can clamp those jaws shut very hard!! Look at him looking all innocent. The thief!
  18. Wagga Vet Hospital is in conjunction with CSU, the building itself is split into two parts, the normal surgery on the right, the specialist CSU teaching hospital on the left. They have specialists in there, one great thing about it being a teaching hospital is when you go for a consult with a specialist, they say everything they are thinking out loud and are very very thorough as they normally have 1 or 2 students in there taking notes and trying to answer questions. They were very good when I took a dog in for a neuro consult earlier in the year. They were also very aware of money constraints and provided a few options. If the price they quoted you was for a specialist to do the surgery, it should be cheaper with a normal vet.
  19. My friends puppy broke it's hind leg in Wagga this year when only 4? months old, she is a large husky x and has now recovered quite well at just under a year old, the only thing you can tell is that when she lays down she sticks it out straight like she still has a cast on it, she can bend it fine though. The surgery was done at Wagga Vet Hospital but by one of their normal vets not their specialists.
  20. I recently bought some Ivory Coat Sensitive Shampoo and conditioner for my itchy pup while we were transitioning to a grain free diet, it hasn't got any oatmeal in it. http://ivorycoat.com.au/sensitive-shampoo/ It seemed to help sooth him after I rubbed it into his itchy paws too. Bonus is it smells fantastic!
  21. I would question the vet who amputated the legs too. Surely the vet would understand the issues this pup is going to have supporting all it's weight on it's front legs.
  22. Bloody labradoodle stuffed me up on the last one! I kept thinking that was it but was trying to think of unkept purebreds that would look like that
  23. "What Faust Saw" was my favourite book as a child!
  24. Great photos as usual T, very happy to hear the big cats might be getting an upgrade. I agree with Grizabella, those enclosures are not good enough, they don't seem any bigger from the inside either.
