Ideas Needed To Relieve Constipation Following Surgery.
LisaCC replied to Malakita's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Paraffin oil would be my best bet. Metamucil/psyllium husks may help, but as it's a bulking laxative, it causes you to poop more, which in case of being too backed up may not help at all. -
Ooh if you have a Petstock near you I noticed last time I was in they were stocking Applaws now

I'm so sorry Raineth You've given him a great life and an amazing last few weeks. I will be thinking of you and your family. Run Free Digby. The rainbow bridge is full of frozen yogurt and meat pies

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
LisaCC replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
Adorable! -
Not sure about show wise but, short coat, larger medium, easy to train. IF you can give them the exercise and mental stimulation my first thought is a short coated working breed like a Kelpie or Australian Cattle Dog.

Recommended Food Dispensing Toy?
LisaCC replied to The Spencinator's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've looked at those thanks :) , but Nova is tug mad. The food would come out and he would keep tugging on the thing I would have to put high quality treats in it for him to take notice. I'd prefer it for his normal meal. -

Thanks to this thread, I put a tennis ball in Novas Kong wobbler. It actually takes more than 1minute now! If anyone has any links to the most difficult food dispensing puzzle known to dog that would be great He figured out the kong wobbler at 12 weeks, and a "Hard" Nina Ottosson in about 5 minutes first go at 6months. -
Ooooh Toller puppies! So gorgeous!

As long as you are prepared to wait for the right dog for you I do not think there is anything wrong with wanting a dog of a particular colour. If I was to have another Aussie I would like a blue mere. If there wasn't a suitable blue merle in a litter I would wait. Agreed, Novas breeder asked if I had any preferences for sex, colour and tail. The puppies were still picked from temperament, but preference was taken in too. I just got extremely lucky that most of the litter were blue boys

Wow Discodobe! I think that puts to sleep the "If you feed a dog _____ it will eat your living ____"

Aww glad Digby still had a great day! I love his jammies I see he shares with Del Is that path with the metal tunnel somewhere in the botanical gardens? That's the only one I don't recognise.

Greyhound Zoomies at full speed are a thing to behold!
-
Yea, and how do people manage to puppy proof and buy too many things for puppy in the months before you get it?
-
On the day this photo was taken Nova did in fact catch up and run faster than a greyhound, for about 30 seconds until the greyhound switched to high gear. Even in the photo you can see which dog is running full pelt and which is just going for a fun jog!

What Trick Are You Teaching Your Dog
LisaCC replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It's taken about 3 months to get Nova to sit like this unassisted! I started by getting him to put his paws on my arm and slowly progressed to one paw just touching my leg while his muscles built up. Now we have this and he can stay for a while :D very proud of my boy! -
Heads Up More Breed Specific Legislation On The Table
LisaCC replied to Steve's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was thinking this earlier, but I admit I haven't met many pugs in real life. The one pug I know with larger nares is my friends and it has had an operation to widen them. Does anyone know of any examples of naturally open nares in brachy breeds? -

A DOL dog I will always remember RIP Leo

Bit off topic, but… I saw that man and his Akita getting coffee in the main street a few weeks ago. His owner might exaggerate but my gosh it's a beautiful dog!

Haredown Whippets - Yep I have a P4P in this house too.. although it's a favourite it's got a fair few holes in it and I still need to cover her in a blanket cause she feels the cold so much, even with her coat on Lisa - I have a Vizsla... I think I may know who your friend is that has a Pod or two... are there multiple V's in that household.. and a brown dog So I can def recommend Pods 4 Pets but just wondering about these Snuggle Pods as they act like a cave and my V LOVES to get under blankets/doona's etc to sleep Must be a good bed for Vizslas (Vizslak?)! This one is a single dog household

I have a friend with a Vizsla who has one. The dog loves it

Should I Bother Asking The Vet About This?
LisaCC replied to raineth's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm gal the vet gave you the go ahead. Hopefully Digby will be much happier every day now. Just remember you may see an increase in side effects again though. Possibly just wanting more yogurt and ice-cream! -
If and when you decide to go for Xrays, look for someone who does Penn hip. This involves a more exacting specification of placement.. . .and placement can greatly affect the way the hips appear on Xrays. The Penn hip crew claim to get accurate predictions of hip quality at 16 weeks. See http://info.antechim...es.com/pennhip/ I was just about to say this. I've been quoted for Penn hip and a normal Elbow and including everything (anaesthesia, sending costs and readings/measurements), It was just over $400.

Not just genetic lottery either, you get unforeseeable accidents if you are unlucky, like the grass seed I saw go in on our walk and straight down the ear drum! There was our first vet anaesthetic, then we had a dog run out of it's yard and attack on another walk. Even if you have insurance a lot of vets want the payment straight up, so you need it.
