  1. I get that comment when someone recognises that Nova is an Aussie. I used to get "It's so nice to see a well bred labrador" with my old lab too. Appart from some of the really common working breeds and amstaffs and staffords it's getting rarer around here.
  2. I trained my old labrador to walk nicely with a Gentle Leader, and within a few months successfully converted to a flat collar. Had used a check chain (with help from a trainer) and even up high he pulled through it. I didn't know about them then (and trainers didn't mention them) but if it was today I would of used a prong. But training on a head halter CAN successfully be done to the point where you can walk on a flat collar. I do not understand the arguments of not judging prongs and checks because "it's the training which makes the difference not the tool", but so many people jump against head halters. In my experience the head halter allowed control of the dog in the fact that we weren't going to be pulled over by a very strong dog at every lunge, and therefore the training could continue.
  3. I will be putting my boy in to boarding for a week when I go to my brothers wedding. He will be over 18 months, which I've noticed for a lot of pet friendly accommodation is the minimum age they'll take pets, and some are 2 years and have weight restrictions which basically amounts to small dogs only. I know some people do but I would not have been comfortable boarding my boy under 1 yr of age. When I've gone away previously he's either stayed with my Mum or had a friend stay the weekend. My last dog was pet sitted or boarded a few times.
  4. Stop looking Lisa you can't have one… yet.
  5. They are beautiful!! I agree with a boy might be best if you already have 2 girls. I personally prefer male dogs as I find they are big snuggle bugs
  6. From other threads on here I believe a lot of dogs could reach their desexing stitches in the Cloud Collars. Comfy Cones seemed to get the thumbs up
  7. My friends are getting one, so I get to have baby dally cuddles Oh very lucky! Dotdashdot might join in the conversation later. Her liver girls spots have changed heaps as she's grown.
  8. Must not look… can't get one yet...
  9. Yep. My intact male gets humped by a desexed bitch. Not exactly a mating instinct there.
  10. Thanks Westiemum and BC crazy :) He's pretty special.
  11. I suggest doing some more training with him rather than more playing and exercise. You just make a fitter dog rather than wearing him out. Brain stimulation can make for a very tired dog!
  12. Hmmm, not sure about that. PH in distilled water should be neutral at 7 sometimes 6.8. My tap water is 7.6 - RO/DI water should also be 7. I regularly test my water as I keep a highly sensitive (and expensive) species of fresh water shrimp. I test manual and electronic. All of the aquaria science geeks don't use their RO/DI units for drinking water as it depletes your body of minerals and strangely enough it is unpleasant to drink. Either way I don't think it is suitable for drinking unless the minerals you need are replaced. You can get RO units that will take out certain chemicals and minerals that are undesirable while leaving it good to drink. Filter jugs like Brita remove some of the heavy metals and chlorine and keep the fluoride (which is a good think in my opinion) Maybe the pH of distilled water is different depending on the supplier and intended use. Our supplier only deals with commercial businesses (manufacturers, vets, surgeries) and we use litmus and electronic to measure and the pH is always right on 5. I don't doubt you especially with your background. I simply don't understand why they would produce water that is acidic and not neutral. What water would you then use to calibrate the electronic devices? Edit - typo again Deionized! water is 7 both at the labs at uni and at work. Water should be neutral, but things like oxygen change it.
  13. The front strap doesn't sit right on the chest. Unless your dog is pulling into it, it shouldn't be on the chest/legs at all. I wouldn't recommend them for a dog that pulls.
  14. I have no idea how heavy Cavs and Westies are but if they are under 5kg you could get the "baby IDC" which is less than $30 At Dogify Scroll to the bottom
  15. The patches are a great bonus :)
  16. Go try the Ezydog Converts on at a pet store first! They are great, but they didn't quite fit Nova properly and that's why we went with the Julius K9 IDC
  17. Packets usually over estimate how much food dogs need, especially the cheaper ones. Go with 3 small meals a day at this stage. Don't leave it out for her to graze, put it out for 15 minutes, if she does't eat it take it away.
  18. Amazing! I love the pelicans and the forth one too.
  19. So I am just meant to bring her in every winter because its cold outside? Thanks Rebanne!! Will look into them!! and the teddies!! See bolded.
  20. My last dog was an outside dog for most his life. He still wasn't outside in the middle of winter at 8 weeks old.
  21. It's the middle of winter, she's 8 weeks old, never been away from her litter before and you've put her outside in the cold with no one. It's been in the negatives in NSW the past few nights. You would be crying too.
