  1. I'm surprised it's allowed actually. TAFE/certificate courses must have different rules than universities. The Ag science students here had an assignment where they were to ask farmers certain things about their crops and it actually failed to get past the ethics committee.
  2. That's so "tailsist". I'm not sure I would call it love, but what ever it is, it's wonderful. Nova has things he does for/with me that he doesn't do with other people. He is friendly with everyone, but if there are multiple people in the house (and he's already said his hellos and calmed down), he will place himself next to me. He doesn't really listen to other people if they give him commands, but I'm not sure if that's his affection for me or just that I'm the one who trains/feeds him. When I had housemates they informed me that when I leave the house he will every now and then look out the front door or window, will sleep next to the door. Even though he grew up with my housemate too, he never displayed any "missing" behaviours when she would go away, there has been zero behaviour differences in him since she moved out too. Tailsist  I'm not a tailsist, but dogs with little bobtails just can't express their love in bruises the same way tailed dogs can. Just sayin. I can't say I miss the bruises I do miss the thumping of a tail on the carpet though. Is that doggy love or just being a labrador? Tail starts thumping if I even glanced in his general direction
  3. I believe it's a Delta course, I've seen them posting on various dog related Facebook pages asking for breeders. They need common and "uncommon" breeds from each group. From one I read (I don't particularly remember what they used), the groups weren't the ANKC ones.
  4. Oh they are wonderful. I'm so enabled. *sigh* can't spend money! I'll check back after my holiday to see if they still have them

  6. That's lovely Daffy I never got dreams of Sam after he passed, only nightmares unfortunately I remember him better when I'm awake.
  7. Don't let anyone make you feel bad. I get shit all the time for having an intact dog. Apparently dogs with balls "always escape eventually", and we can't ever be truly responsible with an intact dog... You kept him intact, your choice, you've desexed him now, your choice. Tell everyone else to shove it.
  8. Damn this isn't working, just here...
  9. Nova does it :). Only have a photo on the iPad of one half though. Interestingly enough with a greyhound not doing it Nova was flat out and Brock the grey was just having a leisurely trot!
  10. It looks way too big to me. I personally didn't like the way Ezydog life vests fitted anyway, they are pretty chunky. Not sure if you could get a full refund but I'm super happy with the Ruffwear one. It's pretty slim fitting and they don't go the whole way down the back

    Samoyed

I think Sammies are one of those breeds that everyone admires, but then they start reading about them and realise they are too much dog (or hair) for them I know lots of people who have always wanted one, my Mum being one of them.
  12. My doggy alarm clock wakes me up at the perfect time. I still set my normal alarm incase it sleeps in, but he's always a few minutes ahead of it. He's good though if it's a weekend or I'm not working I'll say "Shh" and he'll go back to sleep. But it's great during the working week! Nova is quite gentle though, he'll just come over and and put his chin on the bed and make slight groaning noise until I wake up
  13. "My" first dog was a Golden Retriever. They are lovely dogs, apart from being absolutely gorgeous they are smart (but also a bit dopey ), super friendly with everyone, active and playful without needing hours and hours of exercise and great family dogs. They really thrive on attention and company... Because everyone in my house works/is in school full time, the dogs are home alone for a lot of time during the day, if Bailey was an only dog I think he would struggle a lot but he has the company of my Border Collie which keeps him happy. As for the walking on a leash, I got my Golden when I was 11 and was able to walk him - whilst the can be strong, mine has always been controllable on lead and walks without any pulling. Though it really does come down the training. The only real health issues I've had with my boy is he has sensitive skin and gets hot spots at least a couple times a year. They also put weight on really easily so you have to be careful with their diet. My experience with their coat is it doesn't take a huge amount of grooming to keep it free of tangles and matts but if you want it looking really nice and free of dead hair (to minimise shedding), you'll have to groom them quite regulary - pretty much every day. Not sure about other Goldens but mine is an absolute sook and cries until he gets what he wants, usually food. He also drools quite a bit (heaps when food is in sight). Food is basically his life. In short - they are great dogs, I'd reccomended them for first time dog owners providing you can put up with dog hair everywhere, are prepared for regular walks and don't mind your life revolving around a fluffy golden creature. :p Awww, Bailey sounds like an absolute sweetheart! Thanks for the info though! So, your dogs are at home alone until around 4 in the afternoon? And when did you start training him not to pull on the lead? And, how did you train him on the lead? Collar and lead training should start ASAP in my opinion. If you search through the puppy and training sub forums you will come across lots of useful advice.
  14. I got my delivery! It had a little hand written note and free samples!! Everybody loves samples! Some cranberry supplement, some Ziwipeak treats (going down swell!), and some mango doggy shampoo. Nova loves the box. I'm definitely going to use these guys for all our food from now on! Super stuff!
  15. Bugger! But it was already $30 cheaper than In store INCLUDING shipping! It's being delivered today, right on time :)
  16. According to the packet it is safe for dogs with MDR1, any of the people who have spoken to reps heard anymore on this?
  17. I've had the same experience. I have a Julius-K9 with "In training" Patches. I have not met anyone yet that hasn't paid attention to it. Take it off however and people rush him because he is "pretty and looks different". Do either of you happen to think this is also a breed issue? People perceive less issues from either of your breed? The Vizslas get similar reactions. These harnesses below are good because they are made of cotton https://www.etsy.com...rking-on-issues :) YES! I have had parents tell their children to "go pat the fluffy doggy on his butt!" While he's been sleeping at cafes or walking calmly at markets! I keep a close eye on him and people and normally tell them to please not do that. But not everyone listens, hence why I got the harness and signage. If he was a GSD, or dobermann or any of the "Scary" breeds, I have a feeling he wouldn't get those reactions! (Not that I think that, I love those breeds!) Thankfully he is friendly, but just because a dog is fluffy and pretty doesn't mean they are all so tolerant

  19. I agree with this, there are heaps if you look up google scholar. If you use the word "Gonadectomy" instead of desexing you will get more results. I have access to most journals so if you want more information on one that won't let you see past the Abstract PM and I'll see if I can help :)
  20. Also, when you talk to breeders do be completely honest about your situation. I noticed in my search some breeders switched off as soon as I mentioned I was a student or even my age (21 when I started looking), but plenty were open and understanding when I showed them my commitment.
  21. I personally would go a goldie out of all of those for your situation. I'm asthmatic and I find short hair like pugs the worst, I have an Aussie and his fur doesn't affect me at all. IF you have the commitment to have a dog, provide for it yourself, study/work at the same time, your parents allow it and when the times come be committed to look harder for dog friendly accommodation when you move out, I don't see a reason why you couldn't raise a puppy if you so wish. I bought my boy at 8 weeks as a full time uni student/ and worker while renting, but I put in a lot of time and effort into my dog. He is a well adjusted 18month old now, but I also know of other students dogs who are left in the backyard or who don't get enough socilisation or training. You will have to make sacrifices, but to me anyway, they aren't so much sacrifices, but an added bonus to my life I highly suggest you crate train whatever dog you get, it will make renting with an indoor dog a lot easier. My boy is free in the house, but when my landlords recently came for an inspection he was in his crate, he knows to be calm in it and relaxed, and they were so impressed they offered giving me a reference for him for when I move and need to apply for more rentals.
  22. Always a first for everything, I actually agree with PETA I saw this posted before PETA got hold of it, if someone let their kid stand on my dog I'd be sending the parents to time out!
  23. And I agree, Pepe Axe is stunning!
  24. Well wasn't she funny looking!
  25. Aww I love this thread! Here's Nova at about 10weeks, using the wobble board for the first time. And at 19months learning to ride a skateboard
