It's not "allegedly", it is. "Yellow" is geneticaly ee - recessive red. There is an Intensity gene which determines how much of the red pigment is displayed. ee recessive red is anything from cream to a deep red. It is the same gene in Goldens.

"The average family ... they simply won't be able to afford a dog." Petshop dogs cost more than probably any other place to buy a dog! "The public want an eight-week-old pup, they want it for their kids. Shelters do not sell eight-week-old pups." What? Yes they do! -
Tell Me About The Weird Ways You Train!
LisaCC replied to Better Late's topic in General Dog Discussion
*Off topic* I improved Novas fronts by miles by teaching him to target anything I ask (for fronts I use a DVD case cause that's about the right side for his feet). Then when I had that 100%, I could throw it anywhere he'd go find and pounch on it with both feet. I placed the target just under my toes, tried a recall and it clicked with him to finish with his feet on the target right in front. We are heaps better with fronts now, but I still bring the target back in every now and then to make sure he doesn't forget. -
yes but they have ivermectin in them That's what I thought :/ Well I bought a pack of the proheart, which will last until June. Anyone have any recs for an Aussie friendly combined wormer after this? I'll hurry up and get him MDR1 tested next month so hopefully it will be negative and can use anything.

That's what I prefer. Are there any other heartworm only monthly tabs?

What? Nooooo

Great work! My instructor is an older gentleman getting on. He's had multiple surgeries already in 2015 and still went to Bermagui

Sorry but... Did you have bright coloured undies on to match?

Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations
LisaCC replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Animals Australia has connections to PETA. That view is not surprising when you realise that. As for greyhounds and research, how many people here are members of the ANKC again? Do you know that the ANKC gives grants to university research into dogs? I personally know one of which involves greyhounds. I expect many breeders will be using the research that has come out of it in the near future too. -
My lab Sam chewed through the wooden fence posts of the back veranda when he was a pup. I vividly remember Mum going outside, leaning on the fence and it just falling and crashing to the ground. No human or puppy harmed. The only thing Nova chewed on that he shouldn't was the end of my glasses when he was tiny. My fault for leaving them at puppy height.

Four Corners: Greyhound Racing: Live Baiting Revelations

Yes... as I said in my post, our neighbour who represented best practices was a decent & intelligent man. His day job was as public servant. Nobody's yet answered my question why best practices, which I witnessed, do not get presented in the public arena. The public is left with the notion that these pathetic excuses for human beings are the only ones. It's not a case of who's in the majority or minority. It's a case of expectations of what must be regulated as the norm in greyhound racing....i.e. best practices. And examples also presented to the public so they know that decency & intelligence can (& must) exist in greyhound racing. Dispelling the notions that cruelty is required for an owner/trainer & his greys to be successful. If steps aren't taken to be proactive, then the public can hardly be blamed for joining in the chorus of those who want greyhound racing banned. Because it's the media. Just look at what the same program did with Indonesian Abattoirs. They didn't mention that they were showing very few and the vast majority are actually at a world class standard. What they show is disgusting and very wrong, but it won't do any good painting everyone with the same brush. -
2 Already?? No Nixon is still a puppy! Happy Birthday gorgeous boy!

Agreed.

Congratulations SG and the doggies!

Where is your closest Ag society show? There is a high chance of a dog show being there For example I'm going to a dog show at the Henty Show this weekend, Henty has a population of under 1000.

Stunning photos! Mya is gorgeous! All three of your dogs are actually, I'm sure you get swamped by people on the street if you walk all three together!

How Do You Satisfy Your Dog's Prey Drive?
LisaCC replied to raineth's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That's a great doggy door! And I'm not sure why but it always impresses me to see Del doing rear end awareness! I agree with Husky on getting her to increase value on using the tug with you. If I let go of Novas tug he either gives it back to me or drops it and looks sad. As I'm sure you've seen at training, Nova only pisses off with the tug when we've training for too long and done too much I think I did that buy using two tugs to begin with and making me and the other toy super exciting if he had the other. -
Most Of This Diet Stuff Is Bull Dust
LisaCC replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I agree, I'm a firm believer of dogs do well on whatever they do best on. As I've said before my last dog with IBD did best on Pedigree Meaty bites. Explain that Current dog is on a grain free food, why? Because he was getting itchy, I decided to trial a new food and the itching stopped. Do I think he can't tolerate all grains? No, it's probably just one of them causing a slight reaction, I'm going to guess wheat. Vets DO study nutrition, but it is focused on all animals, and at least at my uni, unfortunately Hills, Royal Canin and a few other companies sponsor Vet Departments, so guess who gets to give guest lectures and sprout the benefits of their particular food? So yes they do get told actual scientific facts about dog nutrition, but then they also get these companies coming in and telling them different things. Then a lot who go on to small animal practices again have those same companies in those practices. Tdierikx, Hills sponsored the Cert II when I did it and gave the same 1st lecture that Vets get early on. Part of it was about how good corn was... Oh and actual Animal Nutrition lectures never once said "Raw is bad", that would be coming from the food companies. -
Teaching Dog To Swim Smoothly
LisaCC replied to whirlwind's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My dog swims the same way, stupidly. I also bought him a life jacket and it keeps him horizontal and now he'll swim forever if I let him. I tried a cheap one first from BCF, and although it kept him horizontal, it impeded movement a bit and the last strap went over his boy bits. I ended up with a ruff wear one and it's awesome. Fit is spot on with the measurements they provide. -
I'm a big fan of Turkey necks, if they are really huge you can cut them in half too. But one is normally a good size for a pup to learn to chew. Some turkeys are massive! You can get them in Woolworths.

Check out Aussiedog If the dog/horse toys aren't big enough they have a zoo range. They will probably never die but are pretty damn expensive.

That painted a hilarious picture in my head. "I'm pretty sure my stint in the pound was because of my owner. She never let me off leash because I was "unreliable", gosh, like I only refused to come back 10 times. Anyway, so when I was sent away to boarding school I just rebelled and ran away. The rangers picked me up for "indecent exposure", I was just taking a pee on a lamp post. That cow was a state away on holidays and it took her a whole 48 hrs to come pay my bail."
