They quote "our shelter" - so now they own a shelter Those $$$$$ must be rolling in

It makes the hair rise on the back of my neck! They're talking about the real hard cases here - possibly DA, HA dogs that the other rescue groups won't or can't take - as if they're friendly little kittens. And even kittens can scratch and bite. I have to admit it's very cleverly written though, no matter how much it grates with me too. It seems to me that they may be describing long term kennelled dogs? I hope that any carer that applies for a dog is a very savvy dog person with years of experience.

Could help Sheridan - it gives them a sense of calmness - my girl is ex pf and was a highly traumatised dog - she still requires careful handling by others - but my vets are amazing with her. We usually only use the Thundershirt when they have to look at her rear end :D
-
Do you have a thunder shirt or can you borrow one? Greatly helps calm my sometimes difficult old girl at the vet - we also use a muzzle if needed. I would go with what my vet advises but would definitely get the dental done - they will do a blood panel as she is old anyway. Then you will know what you are dealing with - good luck

You are both in our thoughts today - it is never an easy time. Best healing thoughts for her X

Skye Terrier In Blacktown Pound
schnauzer replied to Boronia's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Now all you need is a little boy to balance things out ... don't skyes come in threes? Yes, they do come in threes Sheridan..just like Westies do and Schnauzers :D Fantastic news for Sally Arcane - how much was the transport? -
I would think possbible Scottie X - anyway he is adorable. Photo of Zacci, my ex pf dog - microchipped as a Schnauzer. He was surrendered with two older Corgi girls and two Scottish terrier girls. He has heavy bone in his short legs :) and a loooooooooong body with very lush coat like a Corgi (when grown out). He has a beautiful temperament and gorgeous personality.

Rescue Dogs - Clues To Their Lives Before You.
schnauzer replied to Wobbly's topic in General Dog Discussion
Very interesting thread. I have three rescue dogs, two ex puppy farm and a bitch we rescued when her owners dumped her in the pound for health issues last July. I was given some advice years ago - once a dog is rescued he is no longer a "rescue dog". My male was six years in a puppy farm and surrendered last year. He was frightened/timid of everything. I worked with him very slowly and he has adjusted brilliantly. He could not walk on a lead/would shake violently at everything and put the brakes on when he was scared. I have had him almost a year and his personality has bloomed and he is now an outgoing, confident boy. :) -

IMO it is preferable for a specific breed to go to breed rescue. They know the breed and its traits, usually have a waiting list of experienced homes available. This also frees up a space for another dog to be rescued - a win win situation. Unfortunately bybs/pfs get stock from pounds that do not have mandatory desexing. efs -

Gosh what a mess. I was hoping that breed rescue had their EOI first up on the dog because that is where he should go or to Shmoo. Did anyone actually find the dogs breeder - how on earth does a Skye end up in a pound? I have contacted Sheridan in the past re a Wheaten (or what we thought was a Wheaten :) ) and she was onto it immediately -
RIP little angel. My heart breaks for your owners

That is great news for this dog. :) -
Hi Yellowgirl Has she had skin scrapings done on all her feet?
-
After reading the post here that was swiftly deleted I must say that I had heard these rumours. The ethos of ethical rescue is to rescue, desex and vet work, temp assess and responsibly rehome. If a rescue bred a dog it rescued then IMO that makes them no better than a puppy farmer. efs

If PR gets the dog out under their 16D is the dog chipped in their name? If so, they are the legal owners of the dog until that dog is adopted and the chip is changed and are therefore liable.
-
I agree but its systemic not just PR. Hope all of the foster carers have insurance. Steve, surely the foster carer would fall under the umbrella insurance of the rescue? Well Ive done a bit of poking around and it appears the way they operate they are always in the clear. They hand over all responsibility of moving the dog onto the next person from the foster carer to that foster carer - so in PR case foster carers are not attached to that rescue group as they are in ordinary situations. The foster carers are independent. PR dont actually ever interact with the dog so it would fall back on the pound for letting a cranky dog go out or more likely the foster carer who should be assessing the dog and deciding whether it should go home etc. From what I can see the last person whether that be pound staff or foster carer would be held accountable and PR have no need of insurance because they are basically acting as agents. In reality if these foster carers were educated they would see their vulnerability and understand the consequences for themselves, their families and the dogs. Wow. How on earth can they fundraise if they are not a legitimate rescue? Where are the funds going and wouldn't they have to be audited? How did they get a 16D if they are an "agent"? Someone needs to seriously warn their foster carers - dogs going into homes with no vet check/temp test/unquarantined. It is a disaster waiting to happen for some naive, inexperienced foster carer who is trying to help a dog.

Pound Rounds is litigation just waiting to happen. I am presuming because dogs are not vet worked/quarantined - that they are also not temperament tested prior to going to foster homes? Terrifying at best.
-
IMO any rescues getting dogs out of pounds and flying/trucking them interstate without a vetcheck first are cowboys. They have no protocol in place to vet check the dog or quarantine the dog. No wonder parvo/disease is rife. What if a dog had a chronic ear infection and was flown - the poor dog would be in agony.
-
I would ask for an x ray to see if the bitch has bladder stones or anything nasty. She is beautiful - hope the vet resolves her problems.
-
Have they done xray of neck and spine? Also would rule out both renal failure/bladder and kidney stones if the dog has some urination issues. Hope you get some results quickly.

It sounds like an allergy - worthwhile to visit Dr. Linda Vogelnest who is a great dermatologist at Sydney Uni Vet Clinic. She also consults at Camden campus.

Rescue/foster Dog Health Issue
schnauzer replied to parrotpea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Dogmad Parrotpea, Sounds like you have done all you can and thankyou for caring so much about this girl:) "Excessive urination" is not normal for any dog - so unsure what your foster care coordinator means by this Glad you are in contact with the adopter and if the bitch is still excessively urinating she should seek immediate advice from her vet. -
Rescue/foster Dog Health Issue
schnauzer replied to parrotpea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Agree Dogmad. I knew within 15 minutes of rescuing Phoebe that we had a health issue. I suspected UTI and was shocked at her diagnosis - which could not have been done without an x ray.
