  1. Contact Shelly Hancox, President of the Schnauzer Club of Vic. and she will help you. They have a great website too.
  2. Beautiful George was pts on Friday suffering from cancer. George was bought by Schnauzer Rescue from SDH and was our second rescue dog. I was stunned by his emaciated state when I first saw him and knew that I would have to find him a loving forever home to end out his days. George was fostered by the wonderful Jemappelle and he flourished in her care. He was rehomed to Renee & Ben as a companion for their mini schnauzer Oscar. He had a truly blessed year, loved and cherished until he got his wings on Friday. My heartfelt thanks to Renee and Ben for giving him such a loving environment to end his days. RIP Gorgeous boy
  3. I would do a Google search on Rimadyl and read carefully. There has been a class action against Rimadyl/Pfizer in the USA.
  4. I am pretty lucky with my clients - I think I have gently persuaded most of them to regularly brush their schnauzers. My pet hate is dogs that are riddled with fleas - yuk - poor dogs. I advise about good flea control and then the dog is the same next time
  5. I groom part time so that I can spend more time with my own dogs, (instead of being in an office all day) although my grooming business is becoming busier and busier. It gives me the flexibility I want.
  6. . Try to brush out matts before washing. I would try to brush with a soft slicker brush - and do very small sections at a time. Condition the tail well when washing. Comb out the conditioner and then rinse. If all else fails, clip off the matts and start again. :D
  7. Great news Mita. One of my schnauzers had a similar lump removed last year, suspected mast cells - I was devastated and thought the worst, but all came back clear.
  8. Mita, My german shepherd (now at the bridge) had a large mast cell tumour removed, (it basically came up overnight and grew very rapidly) very aggressive, and I had a great vet do the op. He lived for many years after the surgery and died at 14 years. The tumour never returned - so there is much hope after they are removed. Very best of luck to you, I am thinking of you.
  9. Schnauzers can be prone to pancreatitis too. Always feed a low fat diet, I use Hills Science Diet, chicken breast (no skin) not much red meat, tuna (in water), bones. No fatty treats ever. Personally I would follow the diet my vet gave me.
  10. I have used Cartrohphen on a very arthritic german shepherd with great success and also on one of my schnauzers, also terrific success. Before using Rimadyl, I would advise you to look up Rimadyl on google - adverse reactions - there has been a class action against Pfizer in the USA. Best of luck with your dog and happy birthday.
  11. My rescue dog has also had chronic ear infection. She had a culture done - yeast infection. She was on drops twice a day - more importantly, one bottle for left ear, one bottle for right ear - so as not to spread the infection. It is long term treatment with chronic ear problems. I would recommend seeing another vet if there is still pus in ears.
  12. Gosh, they are so lethal!! One of my dogs got a grass seed in his foot last year and it ended up moving up his leg. We tried poulticing the foot and leg to remove it but he ended up having surgery to remove it.
  13. Yes. Please read the other thread on Frontline.
  14. zayda_asher, My dog was fine on Frontline too. I used it for three years before he had an extreme allergic reaction and consequently died.
  15. You should NOT use Frontline on a dog that has sensitive skin. (read the other thread on Frontline).
  16. Marilyn, May I extend my very deepest sympathy to you and your family. I am thinking of you.
  17. I now use Sentinel Spectrum monthly tablet on my boys and also Advantage top spot, but only if needed. (if I see fleas on them or they are scratching). This combination seems to work very well.
  18. Paula, I had a dog that had tumours. We decided to ultrasound his internal organs to find out if the cancer had spread to the primary organs. It was in both his lungs and liver. We decided to give him quality of life until he had to be pts. He had a lovely few months with us. Hope this helps, best of luck.
  19. Dali-Love, I went to Merial and also to the NRA in Canberra. After my dog died, they changed the labelling on Frontline to the effect that it was not suitable for dogs with sensitive skin. Sadly, too late for my Liddy.
  20. Pitchick, If you are using the spray, they can be allergic to the drying agent Fipronil.
  21. I used the spray on both dogs. They were in the house and did not go outside. He came up in welts all over his body. When I rang my vet they told me to give an antihistamine, which I did. At 7.30 the next day he was at the vet - he stayed there for four days to stabilise. They sent him home and within five minutes of being home I knew he was dying. I took him back immediately and said I wanted a referal to the specialist centre at North Ryde. He had vasculitis which is very rare in a dog. I told them to do anything to save him and they tried everything possible. His whole body just broke down and he would not eat - he became a skeleton in a few days - so very distressing. I suggested putting him down but they thought they would be able to save him - he died that night. As I did not do an authospy it could not be proven that it was the Frontline. But I saw no other possible reason for such a reaction. :D
  22. Thanks for your replies. Seven years ago I used Frontline spray on one of my dogs, (I had used it previously without any consequences) and he got a severe allergic reaction and after much veterinary care and specialists doing their all to save him - he died. I have a thick file on Frontline and its adverse reactions - but was wondering if anyone else had had an experience like mine. It was absolutely devastating. He was my first rescue schnauzer and the love of my life.
  23. I have read that broccoli should never be fed as a dog cannot digest it correctly and it can cause gastro problems in the dog.
  24. Has anyone's dog had an adverse reaction to Frontline Spray or Frontline spot on?
  25. Andis two speed clippers are great. Quieter than Oster and Wahl. The higher speed is for heavy matting and are very easy to handle. Use Cool Lube when blade gets warm or change the blade. Never use a hot blade or you will burn the dog.
