I am so very sorry to hear this. My deepest sympathy to you and your loved ones.

Great post Poodlefan and sadly, so true. We have rescued puppy farm dogs - 8 last year, the lack of socialisation, behavioural issues and OCD behaviour is rife in dogs kept confined their entire life. They can be rehabilitated, some do recover quite quickly, others a lot longer in rehab. and some have the scars for life. One male we rescued last year, was kept in foster care for many months and took quite a while to become a social, confident boy and to be rehomeable. My own bitch still bears some behavioural traits/spinning when very stressed and it is 5 years since her rescue. The fact that puppy farms let their pups go at 5-6 weeks is abhorent and cruel in the extreme.

Let's hope her common sense, ethics and humanity will prevail. It is not about the cute puppy from the pf (although many will suffer from genetic disease/health issues down the track) it is about the poor bitch who is usually confined her whole horrific life to produce for the pet shop market.

What number blade are you clipping with? If your blade was hot you may have burnt your dog. If you have some Apex cream put it on and it will soothe the clipper burn/ itch. If he is getting itchy after clipping, a soothing bath with Aloveen shampoo will also help. I bathed him with Aloveen before I clipped. I'm not clipping against the hair and I'm pretty sure its not heat from the clipper. I think I clipped it too short - using a 30 blade, read somewhere that thats what to use for the tummy area (can't remember where). So mad at myself for causing the irritation I've clipped with the 30 blade on the tummy before twice and both times were fine so not sure why this time is different. I can't put any cream on him as he keeps licking. I only clipped the tummy today, his coat is still pretty short so I left it alone. For the future, is there anything wrong with using the 30 blade on his actual coat? I think the 10 blade leaves the hair too long. Hi Giraffez, I use a 10 on the body and lower belly during summer, a 7F during winter and leave some coat on, and a 30 on their ears as I like them fine. Keep touching the blade whilst clipping as they can heat up quickly depending on your clipper. I would wash him off again today if he is still licking Get some Apex cream or use Curash as suggested by Crisovar. Don't be mad at yourself, it will settle down in a day or so.

Have you tried Winterpaws - she may have a carer? Good luck and I hope that they all make it out. -

You need to get your facts straight tarope. I have worked with RSPCA on two puppy farm seizures and rehomed all the schnauzers for them. You could not work with more compassionate and caring people. Yeah right, if they were so bloody caring there wouldn't be any puppy mills in the first place. Puppy mills have been around for a long time, what has the RSPCA done - nothing. ;) There are seizures that do not make the headlines. Legislation and govt. regulation is what is needed. Most puppy farms are hidden and located in isolated areas in the country - unless complaints are made, no-one is even aware of their existence. -

Just on that point. It would be an chronic iillness that would prevent the dog or bitch from being desexed, not one that they could be reasonably expected to recover from. Absolutely agree SBT123.

I know how damaging GA's can be to some dogs, she wasn't well when she came into care and i felt they were putting their paperwork issues before the dogs wellbeing. (and the fact that they didn't want to have to chase it up down the track, a phone call once a month to check on her is all it would take.) I feel like they were taking the easy option so they could rehome her and forget about it. Why would a rescue be putting an "unwell dog" in for desexing/ga in the first place? My vets would not even contemplate desexing an unwell dog. If this bitch were in our rescue, she would be cared for appropriately in foster care and then have an ultrasound to determine if desexed or not. I would not give a GA unnecessarily. No dog should ever be rehomed undesexed unless old age/illness prevents it.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Sometimes we are blessed with an angel, a true heart dog, and we are so lucky to share their lives. He will be sadly missed by many of us on DOL. RIP Rocco

Rspca Discussion Paper On Puppy Farming
schnauzer replied to bigger's topic in General Dog Discussion
This is a reality that I understand and accept. However I am offering a full refund on desexing for all my puppies which will hopefully encourage people to have it done (although I don't personally agree with the operation myself). I have chosen to breed pups and I have chosen to sell them- I think I am doing a good job vetting people so far, all people and families who I believe will do the best by the dog. But it is still a risk, even selling to my best friend is no guarantee the dog will have a good, loving, forever home. Yes & yes. Do you believe that registered pedigree dogs deserve to be relegated to kennels to whelp instead of in their owner's bedrooms?? No dog deserves to be treated poorly, I am not saying puppy farms should be denied or swept under the rug but I believe that registered breeders need to focus more on promoting our 'product' for a lack of a better term than bagging out puppy farms. Puppy farmers are not passionate about the dogs they breed- they are passionate about the money they make. As soon as the demand for their product falls- they will move onto another get rich quick scheme. If Joe Public knows that pure bred dogs from ethical breeders are really the way to go, he wont even think twice about buying that puppy in the pet shop. Another thing, many puppy farm websites already state how they are 'better' than hobby breeders because of their status as Registered Businesses. This will only strengthen that. SpikesPuppy, I am a member of a breed club - I believe in good ethical registered breeders. My post objected to your phrasing "I'm going to be extremely selfish here and say screw the puppy farms. Forget about them. " Maybe you need to edit that post if that is not what you meant. -

Forget about them?.............................. Have you ever met a puppy farm dog? Are you aware of the suffering they endure? I have rescued them - in fact we rehomed the 6 schnauzers from Case 1. These dogs did not deserve the life and conditions they were kept in. All dogs were very successfuly rehomed and now are with owners who adore them. With statements like this, it is no wonder breeders get bad names. -
My very favourite DOL dog... My deepest sympathies to you both and of course Ralph. He brought great joy and a smile to everyone who saw your wonderful photos. RIP Rocco.

I hate dealing with this pound - although the volunteers do the very best they can by the dogs. When we bid for a dog there, we have to put an outrageous bid on the dog to make sure we get them instead of a puppy farmer. Rescuing from there costs a probhibitive amount, the big tender price plus all vet work. Kennel cough is also rampant. Blacktown should release all dogs desexed - its a no brainer.
-
You are obviously going to the wrong vet. My vets are worth their weight in gold.

Happy 50th Birthday Poodlefan. Have a great day. ;) :D

Pedigree pugs do turn up in rescue. :D I also rescue a lot of schnauzers - but we do not rehome to families with small children unless the dogs have been brought up with kids.
-
Hi slk, An ex puppy farm schnauzer should never have been rehomed with young children. I think buying a pedigree pug or mini schnauzer puppy from a good registered breeder would be a terrific choice for your family.

Run Free Little Bebe, Free Of Pain At Last
schnauzer replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in Rainbow Bridge
I am so very sorry for your loss Dogmad. Bebe was an incredibly special dog. I am sure Oscar welcomed her at the bridge. RIP -
Last year my dogs (all on lead) were attacked by an off leash Kelpie x, it went for my old blind dogs throat. I broke my thumb grabbing the dog by the scruff and holding it at bay to stop it attacking my dogs and also biting me. Some council workers came over to help me (and also called the ranger) when they heard me yelling at the owner, who was walking ahead oblivious to what his dog was doing. Mine are now dog agressive when a dog is running at them. I am trying to retrain them to focus back on me and not off lead dogs. I now say to off lead dog owners, "best put your dog on a lead - the rangers are here and fining anyone with an off lead dog". I am so sick of moronic dog owners who ruin it for responsible dog owners.

The AEC Frankston is open now and until 9am tomorrow morning. But they require money upfront, which I don't have until tomorrow morning. She's no worse than what she was yesterday, its just the other eye is starting to look puffy and weepy. I've worked out the finances and will pay the full vet bill tomorrow, if there was a vet open today that would let me pay tomorrow I'd take her right now. Jass, if you are happy and willing to take your little pup down to Frankston AEC now, (if you cannot find anywhere else open) and you are willing to pay the sorts of fees that they may charge (keeping in mind that we have no idea exactly what is wrong with the pup at this stage), I will call my credit card details through to them for you and pay upfront, if you can pay me back tomorrow. I have spent thousamds there, so I am a known clint of theirs. Please let me know if you want to take up my offer and we can exchange details via PM. I'll call them and see if they think its an emergency, thank you for the offer. I'll let you know. OK, will wait to hear back from you. also I have already phoned them to clear it with them, all good. Dyzney, A very kind and most generous offer. I hope the OP takes you up on this, poor little puppy.

Take your puppy right now, write them a cheque and it will not clear for three days - when you money is in the account.
