Thanks. It was many years ago that he died, he showed no other symptoms other than one vomit and he was still eating and normal. The only other sign that he was ill was that he did not show any interest in the other dogs in the vets waiting room - that was when I knew it was really serious. Great that he has not vomitted again and you are keeping a close eye on him. Maybe increase his exercise with some extra free running for him to lose weight - what does he weigh? I am sure playing with the puppy will keep him lean.

One cannot use "internet diagnosis" to diagnose any health issue. As I said in my previous post, if the dog continues to vomit bile I would see the vet.

An attack of pancreatitis, the dog is crook and droopy and in a lot of pain, dry heaving diarreha, won't eat really sick, not a simple bile perk and then gets on with it's day as normal. We had a Labrador years ago that would get an attack from the fat in bone marrow, ended up on a morphine shot and a drip for two days. Pancreatitis attacks are severe illness from my experience, you will know the dog needs vet attention. Sorry to disagree 55 chevy. My GSD had one episode of vomitting bile, I took him to the vet immediately as it had never happened before, and he had pancreatitis - he died in the vets the next day, even though every effort was made to save him.

Girrafez, If your dog continues to vomit any bile, he should see your vet. Schnauzers can be prone to pancreatitis and vomitting bile is a symptom. Make sure he is on a low fat diet. If one of mine vomitted a fair amount of bile they would see the vet.

I have used the plug in DAP succesfully when my rescue girl was initially very anxious and it also worked fantastic for my older storm phobic boy - when it was turned on he would sleep during a storm, instead of salivating, pacing and shaking.

The Schnauzer Club has free obedience training classes at Bressington Park Homebush on Tuesday nights at 7.15pm. Once your puppy is fully vaccinated you could come along. Not sure where you live but Gladesville Vet hospital runs a terrific puppy class. Tel 9817.5758

New Puppy But Conflicting Behaviour From Resident Dog
schnauzer replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
OMG too adorable. Was last night better? Great advice from Monah. I am sure that will get used to each other and will be playing in no time. Give your older dog "time out" away from the puppy being all over him when you think he needs it. -

New Puppy But Conflicting Behaviour From Resident Dog
schnauzer replied to giraffez's topic in General Dog Discussion
The older dog has the sofa which is very close to his bed. Unlikely he wants to be near the older dog as he only whines louder when i walk out the room. I thought it may be he is scared of the dark so i turn on the light closest to him but he still cries. He is only a baby in an unfamiliar environment - he will get used to it. I would crate the pup near you in your room, so that he settles down and not be leaving him unsupervised with the older dog at night. Also, you will find that crating him will make it easier for you to toilet train him so that when he stirs at night you will hear him and be able to take him outside. -
New Puppy But Conflicting Behaviour From Resident Dog

If you are treating the older dog when he is snapping at your puppy you are rewarding his bad behaviour. Your pup will be missing his mum and littermates but will settle down in the next few days. Schnauzers ususally tolerate pups/other dogs very well. Give your older dog some time out from the puppy following him around by putting the pup in a puppy pen for a while. Supervise them when together and in a couple of days they will be playing non stop. Where is the pup sleeping at night? If your pup is crying, ensure that he is in a warm place - can you crate him in your room near you? You will then find he should sleep until he wants to go out to toilet. What i'm doing is if he is snappy, i call him over to the treat table and ask him in a excited voice "where's puppy", he usually settles down when i get to the treat table and he would touch his nose on the puppy and then i treat. He totally forgets by that stage he was growling. Puppy's bed is nice and comfy with lots of soft fleecy blankets. He sleeps just outside my room. It seems he wants my presence until he falls asleep or too tired to move......it takes him a couple of minutes to fall asleep, should i stay with him or am i encouraging the whinning in the future? I still don't think I would be rewarding that behaviour. When the dog is very calm with the puppy and has not growled at him for a long period of time, I would reward the "good boy" behaviour. If the pup only cries for a few minutes you will find that it should stop in the next week or so when he settles in. Maybe a good idea to crate him near you if that is possible - where is your older dog sleeping - Is it possible that the pup wants to be near him and that's why he is whining? -

Poor dog. Have you checked you don't have rats/possums in your roof? Dogs can hear what we don't and it could be frightening him. Have you tried a DAP? They can work wonders with anxiety

My Husband Wants Me To Re-home Ollie
schnauzer replied to HugUrPup's topic in General Dog Discussion
Allergies/asthma are also seasonal ie; worse in spring when pollens are around and also when it is windy. If your son touches Ollie does he break out in hives? This would be an indication of an allergic reaction to the dog's hair. I was very allergic and lived with a long coat GSD (inside dog) for 14 yrs. I found regular vacuuming/sweeping, keeping him groomed and washed and there was no problem with my allergies. I am also allergic to dust and owned horses for most of my life. :D Maybe an allergy test first to make sure that it is actually the dog your son is allergic to and not another environmental factor? -
I bet his dog was off leash too. He was breaking the law. It is illegal to have dogs on eastern suburbs beaches, whether it be on the rocks or the sand. Gordons Bay is a tiny bay and beach on the ocean walk.

The underlying goal of ALV is to abolish the property status of animals. They are against all breeders. I totally disagree with this statement. I have read this thread with interest :D and wonder if anyone commenting in this thread has even been to a puppy farm, or rescued and rehabilitated a puppy farm bitch/es? The rally was to bring AWARENESS to the conditions of puppy farm dogs and stop sales of dogs in pet shops and to introduce Oscar's Law. I applaud people like Cosmolo who has stood up for the rights of those dogs that are suffering such shocking cruelty every day of their lives. Not much point in disagreeing I see what their goal is in plain sight on their website. Yes Ive been to a puppy farm and I have 2 dogs here now which have come from one. The rights of the dogs? Feed the crocodile. Yes Steve, every puppy farm dog has the right to a normal dog life. Not a life constricted in a cage, living in urine and faeces and being bred until the dog is no longer able. I would have thought the MDBA would have a very strong stance in seeing all puppy farms abolished? You see just because I dont agree with the method doesnt mean I dont agree with the intent. Of course the MDBA has a strong stance on stopping puppy farms you know that but I dont agree that what is going on here is the way to do it. I understand that the majority of people have good intentions but there are unintended consequences which I happen to think outweigh any potential benefits. What is your definition of a puppy farm? As an owner I have a responsibility to ensure my dogs have a good life - thats different to allocating rights to the dog.I have a right to own a dog as long as I am responsible. A dog doesnt have a right to anything because it cant be responsible for anything. I am very glad to hear that the MDBA supports the abolishment of puppy farms. My definition of a puppy farm is the opposite of an ethical registered breeder. Mass breeding/farming of dogs, no socialisation, no/little vet care, kennelled/caged continually, bred every season until unable to breed-then disposed of, pups taken away from bitch too early, no/little human contact. etc etc. We will have to agree to disagree - I believe that every dog as a domesticated animal has the right to a happy life.

Eastern Suburbs Dog Club - Centennial Park
schnauzer replied to Nushie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks Schnauzer, but i think Eastern Suburbs will work out after all. I just assumed that it was like set weeks that you had to attend, but if i can just come and go as i please then it is fine. Do you go to Eastern Suburbs dog club?? Just to get it straight in my head (read the website but still a little confused) you pay the $30 to become a member for the year and then each time you attend is $3 on the day?? I used to be on the committee and have been a member for many years, but only attend occasionally as my dogs are pretty well behaved. :D There is an initial joining fee and then membership is $10 pa and classes are $3 per week. You will need to take a current vaccination certificate to join. Have fun! -

Eastern subs is a great friendly club and has wonderful volunteer instructors, most of whom are very accomplished triallers/agility/obedience. You can take a test to go up a level whenever you think your dog is ready. I think Northern and Western subs run Saturday classes if you want to travel. -
This is the saddest part of rescue. We have all had to make the call at some stage and it is always heartbreaking So sorry. RIP Gabriel

Angus came to me to show me the pure pleasure in owning and training a dog. (RIP) Mac came to me to bless my life and show me unconditional love and total devotion.(RIP) Liddy came to me to show me the cruelty of human beings, and his rescue instigated our breed club rescue. (RIP) Oscar came to me to be Liddy's companion and to make me smile every single day.(RIP) Monty came to me to show me how naughty some puppies can be, and to bring me laughter with his sheer joy of life. Daisy came to me to show me the horror of puppy farming and to teach me that the most severely traumatised dogs can be successfully rehabilitated.
