  1. Another vote for K9Pro. You could also go to obedience school - Eastern Suburbs dog training club meet every Sunday morning at 9am in Musgrove Ave, Centennial Park. It's lots of fun for you both.
  2. JulesP, I am so very sorry for your loss. It is so tough when you lose a young dog....... My thoughts are with you. RIP Brock
  3. I think after only a week, you should be able to return her to her breeder. Unfortunately Poodlefan, I doubt that a "schnoodle" came from a breeder as such.
  4. OMG Jacq, my heart breaks for you - I know just how much she meant to you. Another angel in heaven - a bright star shining in the night sky. RIP Cordelia
  5. I have no opposition to people exporting dogs for the right reasons. But, I do take strong exemption for the so called "registered breeders" who are purely breeding for the export market and sending hundreds of puppies to the overseas/Asia pet shop trade every year - particularly to Mr. McDougal USA. I read the ACT Journal and was shocked by the figures.
  6. What a beautiful dog Tramissa. Forever in your heart.
  7. What a great day put on by Dogs NSW. My club won the Best Breed Stall with our theme "Dogs are Not Just for Christmas". The Border Collies were just stunning and had an amazing breed stall, Aussie Cattledogs and Mastiffs were beautiful - just to name a few. So great to see the clubs promoting their breed - a great day out. Good shopping too.
  8. What breed is the dog and was it purchased from Burwood in Victoria? This branch is fantastic and really do help the dogs. If it is one of the Schnauzers I would be happy to help her.
  9. Better to put this into the Rescue forum as well. Poor girl.
  10. I would do as others have suggested, vet first with full blood panel, reduce exercise to gentle short walks on leash. Lots of free running will strip weight off a dog very quickly if they are poorly. Good luck
  11. Best wishes for Ollie - he is a DOL favourite.
  12. DOL is not hostile - just factual. Stick around, there are some extremely knowledgeable people on this forum and you will learn a lot. I am not a breeder - we rescue the "ex puppy farm dogs and mostly pet shop and byb dogs" that people often dump/surrender when they realise that a schnauzer is a fairly high maintenance breed. They need regular brushing, grooming every 6 weeks throughout most of the year (approx. $60 -70) and are a high energy breed which need at least once a day walking/exercise and of course obedience training. People here have not "crucified" you, they are only concerned about the welfare of your new puppy.
  13. Great post Showdog. I have been thinking about this overnight Poor puppies and poor bitch. Surely someone is looking after the bitch whilst the "breeders" are overseas? Why can't the pups be kept with their mother where they belong until they are over 8 weeks ;) I would be asking if this were possible for the benefit of your puppy and its siblings. There are great registered breeders who health test, have wonderful lines and are incredibly knowledgeable, and raise their puppies correctly. They will give you support for the lifetime of your dog. PM me if you would like more information. An eight week old pup is very much a baby - but even I would be very daunted at bringing a six week old puppy home and I have owned the breed for 30 yrs.
  14. 6 weeks! :D What breeder lets their puppies go at 6 weeks? None of the ethical ones that I know. Steve, glad you are doing all the preparation for your new baby. With my own dogs, I use Sentinel Spectrum monthly and Advantage if I see a flea on my dogs, which is rare. I would be guided by your vet. Good luck and we need photos.
  15. What a beautiful regal man he was. A wonderful, moving tribute to a dearly loved companion. RIP Kuga
  16. Hi Casowner I loved reading about naughty Donkey - he made us all laugh and smile with his antics. I am so very sorry that you have lost him, he has now joined Jake at the bridge. Such a hard decision for you, but I am sure it was the right one. RIP Gorgeous Donkey
  17. He's a grand old man Sheridan - obviously much adored and loved. Happy 15th Birthday Grumpy ;) :D efs
  18. RIP Pepper you were so dearly loved by Jane and all that knew you. Forever in your heart, always bedside you.
  19. Mine are walked on leash twice a day, seven days a week (except in torrential rain ) Most mornings they have a run in the park first and are then walked on the ocean walk, sit at an outdoor cafe with me for a coffee and are then walked back. Beautiful way to start the day. In suburbia, I think walking is great training/mental stimulation, and makes for a fit, calm and healthy dog.
  20. Ex puppy farm dogs normally take longer to toilet train. It can be done. :p As Erny advises do exactly the same as with a baby puppy. I take them outside during the night as I would with a puppy, wait until they wee (however long it takes) reward the good behaviour with kind words, big pat and come back inside and say "basket" or "go to bed". This can sometimes take months before they are realiably trained. It is very early days with your dog, do not expect too much, the dog has been confined for a long time. 10 days is nothing in terms of time with an ex pf dog - it can take months/years to rehab. them. My bitch took about 4-5 weeks to be toilet trained. Personally, I would not use a belly band.
  21. I am so very sorry PeiLuvR. Heartdogs always walk beside you. RIP Millie
  22. I just put him on the scales, he is 14kg :D but he is an oversized mini - he is 17 -18 inches from the floor to the top of his shoulders. Vet said 12kg is ideal for his size. With the reduction in food and the weight management food, he is still putting on weight. Exercise is a bit hard as he refuses to walk at a certain point when i take him on walks. I stand still and wait for him but he won't budge... i try another route and he stops at a certain point also. I take him for a run at the local park too but he doesn't run around that much, he just walks around sniffing. He doesn't get snacks or table scraps either! So i'm I am hoping the puppy will get some kilos off also. There has been a lot of chasing around in the yard and wrestling 14kg :D My male is 8.8kg but fit and lean and 14" tall. I think a lack of exercise could be attributing to his weight - can you throw a ball for him at the park? Have you tried an obedience club for his problem with walking on the leash? If you teach him to heel correctly, he will go wherever you go.
