  1. OMG - I hope little Alvin is found safe and well very soon.
  2. Does she have much coat on her at the moment? Have you checked your yard for any vomitting/diarrhea? There is a gastro bug going around up here, some friends dogs and one of mine had it briefly. I would take her temp. and keep her as cool as you can. It is unlike a schnauzer not to eat a pigs ear - hope she is ok.
  3. You are giving him the ultimate gift from a loving owner.
  4. Yes it is possbible to learn how to groom - as long as your breeder is willing to teach you. It is harder than it actually looks at first. Good clippers and scissors and essential. I like Andis AGC Professional. I would recommend having a dog door so that your puppy is easily toilet trained and can have yard access (with very secure fencing of course).
  5. Mini Schnauzers are a very active breed and will jump if you allow it. Highly intelligent - they need mental stimulation and daily walking - mine are walked twice a day. The problem being that you will have two toddlers and a little baby puppy - a great deal of work! Minis are very trainable IF you put in daily obedience/toilet training etc. They want to be with their famiy and are not suitable for being locked in a backyard or in a crate for hours on end. Locking them away from their family can cause behavioural issues like barking. I rehome a lot of dogs that have had issues because of being isolated. Easily retrainable though if you know the breed. They excel at obedience and agility. Personally I don't crate my dogs - they are trained house dogs and have a dog door so can come and go as they please. Some breeders will not rehome to families with toddlers. Our rescue does not rehome to people with very young children as I think it is too hard to supervise little kids and dogs 24/7. Good luck with your decision. PS they are a terrific family dog and generally great with kids, socialisation as with training is a must.
  6. On September 2 I lost my heartdog Monty. I was truly blessed and privileged to have owned such a spirited, beautiful and loyal dog. Monty - you are etched into my soul and will be missed forever.
  7. A beautiful tribute to Tango. Heart dogs are forever
  8. Gillbear, I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing such a precious, beautiful heart dog is so tough. Godspeed Gillie
  9. Ollie's story touched my heart as I have had two dogs with MCC. Your story of devotion, hope and love was inspirational. RIP Beautiful boy
  10. Staffyluv, I am so very sorry that you have lost your husband and that the beautiful Ollie is unwell. I want to wish you all the very best - Ollie has proven that miracles do happen
  11. RIP Beautiful boy. I think everyone in rescue was deeply touched by his story. I am so very sorry cathya.
  12. Most of the dogs we have rescued have recovered very well - I choose their new homes with great care and only rehome to experienced breed/rehab people. My own girl still has fear issues, occasional anxiety and is timid. Considering how extreme she was when rescued (unrehomeable fear biter), she has done remarkably well. Rehoming to a home with a very stable dog enhances recovery and stability IMO. People who think it is OK to keep dogs in commercial breeding kennels confined their entire lives, with no social interaction, little human contact and no enrichment are totally delusional.
  13. Cannot recommend Max highly enough - he is a miracle worker but also helps you understand exactly what it going on. I find some vets don't understand that I want to know the ins and outs of everything. Max has done some amazing things with my dogs! Another vote for Prof Max Zuber - fantastic surgeon and great aftercare. Also highly recommend Prof Ken Johnson at Sydney Uni.
  14. You've never struck me as an Animal Rights Loonie, Schnauz. You still dont...unless you go and B&E or kill some animals in order to demonstrate that animals have Rights (which I think is even loonier than just loonie). You have never made me think you would do that kind of loonie shit, babe. Do you go out there and do loonie militant shit in order to prove that animals have Rights when they dont? I am a rescuer - that probably says it all My belief is that every dog is entitled (has the right?) to a good life with a loving owner/family - can't get more simple than that.
  15. Hi Schnauz, You know I love ya mate, but animals dont have Rights. I asked my dogs to get off the lounge and come here to tell you themselves but they told me they dont have an opposable thumb so cant possibly pick up a pen to vote on whether or not they have Rights. they then said - Hey slave...go and pick up my poo, make my dinner and make my bed neat enough to get into tonight. Animals dont have Rights. If you keep telling me they do I'll just say you're an Animal Rights Loonie. Hey Raz, You know I am an animal rights loonie :D I know you think dogs are entitled to a good life too. (otherwise yours would not be on the lounge ) I think dogs have the "right" to be treated well, cared for and loved.
  16. Hi Raz We will have to agree to disagree with this one. I do believe that dogs as companion animals have the right to a good home, a warm bed, and a loving owner. I do not believe that they should be bred in cages for their entire lives, without exercise, proper nutrition, social interaction, vet treatment and enrichment. In my opinion, what you have outlined is animal welfare issues not animal rights and I am sure no one here would have any issues with what you have outlined. But what is actually the difference? As humans, we are enabled to provide man's best friend with a good life. Puppy farmers deny dogs this right.

  18. I wasnt talking about people who rescue animals from cruelty, schnauzer - I was talking about the mob comments on that fb page. I think what's going on over on that wall is appalling and is certainly not doing anyone in the dog world any favors. Sorry for the mix up, schnauz. No offence taken Raz :D I am have been called far worse Sometimes people get on a bandwagon without knowing the facts, and it is a mob mentality. Certainly this "kennel" seems to breed an awful lot of dogs and sells via the internet for big bucks - which for me reeks unethical "breeder".
  19. Yes that's what I thought, Nic. If it had just been a puppy shot on a breeder's website I wouldnt have thought anything of it, but her name and the office of PM attached to it for the purposes of promoting something - looks really bad, doesnt it. Hi Raz I am one of those "activist nutjobs" We rescue puppy farm dogs (and others) - I have seen it all . I have seen the trauma, the damage beyond belief to a dogs mental state after years of confinement, and the disease and ill health. Fortunately we rehabilitate and rehome. I personally think it is a slap in the face for the MDBA and all ethical registered breeders who promote healthy purebred dogs. It is also a slap in the face for breed rescue and rescue in general. The purchase of this puppy reeks of total ignorance, lack of education, and irreverence to the plight of thousands of dogs pts each year.
  20. Then good ethical registered breeders have nothing to fear. By the way, the worst rescue I have ever done was from a registered breeder. Malnutrition, shocking ear and dental infections and skin infections. The traumatised bitch that I kept took months of constant vet care to get her healthy again. The dogs lived on a concrete slab in cages.
  21. Anyone got a good link to send her? Like this.... but better. I can tweet it to her. Maybe she should adopt one of the puppy farm bitches just rescued after 6 years living in a putrid puppy farm to breed this "designer" cross.
  22. I can donate some tinned WD to you - I have just lost my older boy and he was on that diet. I am in Sydney eastern subs.
  23. When my old boy died, a friend's 5 year old daughter wanted to know what happened to him and where he was. I thought that the truth was the best answer, and told her that he was very old and tired now and had gone to heaven to sleep. She cried but seemed to understand but also wanted to be able to see him. I told her to look up in the night sky and the biggest, brightest, shining star was Oscar. This seemed to give her comfort and she still points out the biggest star as Oscar to her parents several years later
  24. Stormie, if you saw how my dog deteriorated at the specialist centre in five days, you would never, ever use the product.
  25. 12 years ago my 7 year old Schnauzer died after complications to an allergic reaction from the use of Frontline spray.
