Mouth Cancer In Puppy- Confirmed
Silverblue replied to Silverblue's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It seems Scamp wasn't PTS as I first thought, they were taking him to the vets, he was happy as he thought they were going for a walk, she was patting him, he looked up at her, yelped and instantly died. Poor little Scamp poor people I think though they will be adopting Smudge who was Scamps Mum -

Beautiful SCAMP, much loved family member of the Ansett family was Put to sleep this morning. RIP little man -
It was the right thing to do, however it was very hard. Makes me feel VERY guilty about not staying with my beloved Chloe when she went to sleep.

Today I had to take my neighbours dog to be PTS, she had lymphatic cancer, she was 13 years old. It was the most peaceful thing I have seen, she was just sooooooo tired, she fell asleep. FOREVER RIP Beagle, your family will see you at the bridge

My vet puts ALOT of clients on to me, as he said they are vets not groomers & prefer only to do it as a last resort ie under sedation. Perhaps have a chat with your vet & let them know what you do.

Mouth Cancer In Puppy- Confirmed
Silverblue replied to Silverblue's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Went with the owners to the vets tonight. His mass has doubled in size in a week, it is huge & gross & continually bleeds. It is situated under his tongue, so they are saying they can remove it but alot of the bottom jaw ( 3 cm ) each side of the mass will have to come off as well. His owners are devastated to say the least, they estimate surgery to be in the thousands $$$$$$. I have passed on all the links everyone has sent me, however it seems to already have a hold on him, poor little Scamp -

Mouth Cancer In Puppy- Confirmed
Silverblue replied to Silverblue's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ok I spoke to the vet today ( totally off record ) It seems they found a Large mass in his mouth, biopsies were taken & as his lymph nodes were also swollen it was decieded to test tham as well, In the vets words " It doesn't look very promising " The results should be back either tommorow or thursday, when the vet will ring me again to discuss with the owners what options are avaible. Will keep you posted -

Thanks for that Marion, That is a great site, i will pass it on to his owners -
One of my pups from Boris & Smudge has just been diagnosed with mouth cancer, he is only 12 months old They were playing ball & noticed blood on the ball, so they took him to the vets where they have done biopsies etc, they will know more on Thursday, however I will be ringing the vet in the morning. He did have an overshot mouth (bottom jaw sticking out), but I doubt this has anything to do with it, he is eating & playing. I am at a bit of a loss

Coprice Dry Food! New Brand Out
Silverblue replied to shazz05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dogs love the Coprice, I have used it on several occasions, I find it to be a reasonable crunchy for when I can't afford to buy the Bonnie. I tend to alternate each time I buy 20kgs. Even Cockers get sick of the same crunchie week after week -
very sad, it certainly is the hardest thing to do

3yo Cocker Male Always Runs Away From Female Puppy.
Silverblue replied to Grapet's topic in Puppy Chat
Really can you blame him, 8 week old puppies are a pain in the ar**, personally I don't leave my pups with the adults till they are around 5 -6 month old. Cocker babies are the most EVIL creatures around No really they will become friend, just let him adjust in his own time, don't force it. Good Luck NOW WHERE ARE THOSE PICS -
Groomers Fave Breeds 2 Wash
Silverblue replied to Nevafollo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am going to add this before I finish reading this thread, but I LOVE doing Rotties, they are the most layed back easy going dogs I have washed. No compliants here, having said that I HATE doing Cockers -
Wow, that was sooooo beautiful He certainly looked like a character So sorry for your loss (goes off to find tissues)

It is also a good idea to practice over at least 3 different terrains, as this is part of an ET. My girl trained everyday (only cos she was sooooo fat, had to do it slowly). Started by walking to the shop, then around the block, then on the bike, slowly building up the distance. The test is set a 10km an hour which is a good steady pace for a Cocker. But as I said you really do need to train for it, there were some GSD's at our ET who hadn't bothered practising (owners thought they would be ok) they were not!!!!

Wahl clippers are good, they are lighter & quieter than the Osters. If you are looking to go short you may try a 7' blade, personally I wouldn't go any shorter.

My 7 1/2 year old Cocker done her ET several years ago. When we started training she was as wide as she was long ( FAT ), we spent about 4 - 5 months training, working up the distance slowly. On the day she went like a trooper, & passed easily. I had someone else ride the 20 kms as I was too lazy & it seemed so much easier at the time. They used to come pick her up every night on the bike & take her running. I don't care what ANYONE says, a dog that isn't trained & conditioned to do a ET won't do it. Some dogs won't need as much, but it is important to build up to it slowly. It is a buzz though to see them come across the line still firing on all cylinders. Good Luck

A Question For Those With Large Double Coated Breeds
Silverblue replied to Veanna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am VERY lucky, my brother just bought home this little pressie for me, I already have the Kthingy dryer which advertisers on DOL, now I have this one as well -
I also use a greyhound vet for my Vacc's, it is $25 for a C5 & $16.00 I think for a C4. I know when I needed 9 puppies Vacc'ed I saved $130.00 by using the greyhound vet instead of my local vet.
