Groomers! Are You Sick Of Clueless Clients
Silverblue replied to qashmir's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes SaintlySusan, If the dog is that badly matted I take EVERYTHING off, even the tail if I can't brush it out. I did get a Matted dog release form off another groomer on another list, it is very good, explains exactally what needs to be done. -
Groomers! Are You Sick Of Clueless Clients

I think the worse one I ever did was a Bearded Collie, when I rang the night before to confirm the appointment they said " yes please come but we will not be home so I will leave the money in ........., oh and there is a bit of blood on the ground where she sleeps not sure where it is coming from" As soon as I walked around the side of the house I could smell the dog  , noticed her backend was a bit of a mess so started at the top, 7 blade all over, until I got to the bum, this poor girl had maggots falling of her everywhere, they had eaten a big hole in her tail, I was by this time. The poor girl was screaming in agony, in the end I put her in the bath & gave her a bloody good scrub, washed off the shit, blood & maggots, I could do no more. I left a note, not a very nice one either demanding that this dog went to the vets immediately as she was in alot of pain, I was soooooo damn mad, how in earth could anyone let that happen to their dog, Oh yes & i took the money as well. As I stated in another thread, we are groomers, not bloody miracle workers, I refuse to put up with their crap anymore, If people can't be bothered brushing thier dogs & letting them get matted to the skin, I shave them off. -
Matts Matts Matts...aarrgghh!
Silverblue replied to Stewie_the_Frenchie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am with you gashmir in that dog groomers do get blamed for everything, if people paid more attention to their own grooming they will reliase why it is some times neccasary to cut out knots, and even shave back to the skin. You gotta love the people in the middle of winter that say "Don't take too much off its cold" yeah right, the dog is matted to the skin, nothing but a 10 or 15 blade will get under it. Or the best one " I just bathed it and it went like this " of course when you wet it it will look worse So before bagging out the groomers, take a good look at what you are/aren't doing in keeping your dog knot free. -
Bit runny actually lol

Most dogs will love vegemite, and it is a good source of vitamin B. However i have just bought "Stockgain" for the dogs, it is also a fantastic source of Vitamin B.

Keeping Puppy Mentally Active While Eating Their Meals
Silverblue replied to NoodleNut's topic in Puppy Chat
I agree Settrlvr, To me that is just cruel, let the pup eat in peace. Certainly put there treats in a ball, but definanately not thier meals. -
Hi Harminee. Can you believe 2 beautiful Black & White cockers have gone to the rainbow bridge this week, I will pm you. So much sadness

OK, Vet wants another couple of days to work out his plan of attack, he says 1 in 5 dogs are fairly easy to treat, you can bet that Boris isn't one of them. He is going to explore ALL treatments for me, if he isn't one of the easy ones to treat it is going to be a very long & costly exercise, with blood tests every 2 weeks to check his red cell count. The specialst has never seen this condition in a Cocker before & it isn't heriditary, which is one bonus I guess. I will keep this thread updated as it is such a rare condition.

My vet has been waiting to speak to the skin specialist just to confirm a couple of things, will find out today what path the vet wants to take, will post tonight what he has said, Thanks everyone

Thanks Poodlefan, I have mum on the job of tracking down some alternative course of action, I would be very grateful if you could PM me details of the vet you use, many thanks. Judith

Boris doesn't have the scabs on his beautiful face, just the rest of him. Treatment seems aggressive, with alot of nasty side effects.

What Brush Should I Use For A Labrador?
Silverblue replied to morphjk's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would recommend the shedding blade as well, it is great for short coated breeds, many of my clients have bought them after I have used them on thier dogs. Makes my job much easier -
Grooming Dogs With Ringworm
Silverblue replied to saintlysusan's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Same, No way would I touch it, it is not worth the risk of spreading it onto your other clients. Just tell them they MUST treat it first. -
Why not get him scored first, what is the reason you think his scores will be high, It is a decision not to be taken lightly, Good luck in whatever you deciede.
