Animal Lovers That Dislike Children
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to LizT's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with you Cordelia. I am always in a rush and hurry to get everything done, which is how I have been since birth - including being born within 40 minutes. My sister was born with the biggest grin on her face, and was such a bubbly baby. My other sister was such a serious baby and remains so today. -

At what age do babies get a personality would you say? Or are all human beings simply moody, impulsive creatures with no control over themselves? -

Hi IggyLover, What breed are you getting and when are you getting her/him? :) -
No experience with cat poo - but at the moment am experiencing a dog who has learnt to eat cow poo and snuffles around in it. What's worse is he has learnt to open every door in the house and sneak in nice and quietly. Not pleasant coming arcoss a stinky dog under one's desk lol

What Facinations Do Your Dogs Have?
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to Sankari's topic in General Dog Discussion
Elephant beetles. If Henry so much as thinks he hears one, he's off like a shot to deal with it. Used to be quite funny when he was working out how to deal with them - they used to grab his tongue and he'd jump all over the veranda with his mouth wide open He likes it when you hide behind the bed and hiss like an elephant beetle, and he comes and finds you. Holly likes to get her bones, and 'kill' them by dancing around them and mouthing them, flipping them up in the air until she thinks it is 'dead'. -
Where Do Your Dogs Sleep?
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to Rilla-My-Rilla's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sure - forgot these ones lol! -
When I get my pup she'll sleep in my room, on her own bed. She'll be allowed on my bed when scared - or when I want to pretend she's scared ;) Let me know if I've missed a question

I'll suggest a Cavalier King Charles - they are my favorite after Border Collies :) I've never owner a Cavalier, but my mum has had two, when we were kids. They were fine with the chickens and great with us kids! At the moment we've got a little jack russel x, and she gets along fine with the chickens, simply because she was raised with them from 7wks old, and knew that they were off limits from the start. Good luck on your puppy search! :)

They're so ADORABLE! Makes me want one too.... Mum looks so happy with her babies

I'm home most of the time, and plan to leave the puppy in a small enclosed area outside when I'm out, or in a sturdy playplen/crate. I thought that we should introduce the dogs one at a time? Maybe Holly first, and then Henry. They don't bark as much when separated, I think they don't feel as forceful or something. Thought maybe buying Henry some new toys and giving him lots of yummy treats, that are special for him, such as meat, might help when puppy comes home?? Some things I read said to send a blanket to the breeder for a week when the puppies are born, and then bring it back and put it in your dog's bed, and keep doing this until the pup come home? That way they recognise the smell as part of the family or something? I've read a couple of different ideas, but just wanted to know what worked? Obviously it'll vary depending on the dog. Thanks for your advice so far :)

They're gorgeous WoofnHoof!

They live with me and my sister, but they are hers so are naturally more bonded to her, but still love me a lot too. I'm not worried about the girl, it's the boy that suffers jealousy issues. He's also very fearful of anything new, which we're working on at the moment. When visitors come, the girl greets them and is happy. Henry barks, and then because he cannot bite the people, he bites Holly instead, because he doesn't like her associating with things he doesn't like/trust. I do do a lot of training with Henry, to help my sister.

An Awesome Blog About A Dog I Came Across Today
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to Cody's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well trained dog! He doesn't look too impressed about some of the items....especially the toilet paper . Wonder if he gets to eat the food afterwards? -
Outside when out, with access to large veranda. Outside when home, inside to sleep at night, and during the day on invitation only. (And when they've been bathed and are nice and clean. Not allowed inside after large lamb bones - they smell like a butcher shop lol)

What Fruit And Veges Do Your Dogs Like
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to pirate's topic in General Dog Discussion
Everything except celery. They can digest their vegies because they are blended based on Give Your Dog A Bone by Dr Billinghurst. Oh, they're not too fond of carrot, but will eat it in small quantities. -
They will be one year old in June. I'm getting the puppy July/August.

I'm sure this has been discussed many times, but I did a search and couldn't really find anything that matches my situation. We currently have 2 dogs. They are brother and sister, Jack Russel x Shit tzu. They get along just fine but the little boy is very shy and fearful with strange people, things and dogs. In a couple of months I'll be getting a BC pup. The two dogs belong to my sister, so they are more bonded to her then to me. We've started taking them to Obedience club, more for socialisation than training. The girl, Holly, will meet other dogs nervously, but happily and wants to play. Henry, on the other hand, is very scared of strange dogs. He's not aggressive towards them, he wants to hide between our legs and get picked up (he's even terrified of smaller dogs and a little 10wk old kelpie pup). So, whilst he's alright on neutral ground, I don't know how he'll feel about strange dogs at home in his own territory. So my question is - does anyone have any advice on how to introduce a 8wk old bc to a jealous/fearful 1 year old dog? Any help really appreciated, we're not sure how we're going to go with him. I still don't think he'll be aggressive, just maybe a bit jealous and sulky. Hope this all makes sense!

What Do You Teach First?
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to Rilla-My-Rilla's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We're working on this with my sister's 7 month old. The instructor at Dog Club is pretty hopeless, has no method so a lot of the pups in our class are struggling. Just as well we've done so much reading, ect, so school at the moment is only for Henry's socialisation (he has fear aggression) -
