Hello! I'm entering Rilla in her first obedience trial and was in the middle of filling out the form.... I'm required to enter her jump height, despite the fact she's not doing Agility. I've entered her actual height, but didn't know what jump height to pick. The heights I can pick from are 200,300,400,500 & 600. I'm really confused lol! Please help!

Rilla's a Border Collie and absolutely loves her Snooza bed. I got her the Buddy Bed in XL. She could fit a large, but loves to share her bed with toys, blankets & my Mum's Shitzu :)

Thanks Tassie! I'll go and check it out - I might ask our dog training club when the first trial is for the year too, so I can check it out. -

Requirements Of Obedience Trials?
Rilla-My-Rilla posted a topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi, I was just after some info about obedience trials. My BC is a bit young (and under trained) ATM, but I am hoping that she will be ready for her first trial by the end of the year. (She'll be 15 months by then). She's SUPER smart, so I think we can do it. Before I get my hopes too high, however, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what exercises are usually involved in the 1st grade of obedience trialling? I'm taking her to our local obedience club in February, but I would like to get some more training done with her before then. Thanks! :-) -

Oh my goodness they are SO cute!!! I like them all, do you have a favourite? It is very hard waiting! :D -
I asked at the end of the first visit. Rilla's breeder was local, so the first phone call was very short, we just basically arranged a time to come visit. Rilla's breeder didn't have a problem with it.

Natural Rearing Border Collie Breeder?
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to creek817's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree with Espinay. Just because you offer someone advice, it does not mean they have to take it. That is what advice is. And just because someone chooses to do something different to you, it does not mean that they are wrong or right, or that you are wrong or right. Offering your opinion once is fine, but when the OP doesn't agree with you, there is no point getting upset about it. People have differing opinions. Everyone needs to make the decision they are comfortable with. If someone feels unsafe vaccinating their animal, be it a dog, cat, cow or horse, then they need to be comfortable in their decision not to do it and be able to accept whatever may entail. Just as if someone is afraid or concerned that their animal will catch a disease and die if it is not vaccinated, then they will feel more comfortable with a vaccinated animal. If their pet dies of vaccinosis, then that is unfortunate. If the unvaccinated pet dies of parvo, then the same thing there. It's all good and well to say that you have never experienced parvo, but perhaps you have never experienced vaccinosis or the side effects vaccines can cause, whether very severe or minor, underlying issues. Each to their own, and some people in this thread would be less stressed if they realized that everyone needs to make their own choices and decisions. No one is necessarily right or wrong. This post is not aimed at any user in particular, it is written in general -
Natural Rearing Border Collie Breeder?
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to creek817's topic in General Dog Discussion
But they are not on a good diet...they have to scrounge for their food and sometimes would even die from starvation. Domestic animals fed a raw diet have a very luxurious one, in that they are fed every day and kept at a responsible weight. Just because feral animals are on their 'natural' diet, doesn't mean they are going to be in tip top condition. -
Yellow Ribbon - Give My Dog Space
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to skully's topic in General Dog Discussion
My sister's dog Henry, as I already mentioned in my previous post, isn't DA and would never bite a person. He is very nervous, and lacks a lot of confidence. He's fine though, if everyone ignores him. A muzzle would distress him greatly (he wouldn't let us touch his face when he was a puppy, although he is a lot better now and his confidence if slowly building) I find it offences how every body thinks they can touch your dog. Even if the dog isn't nervous and loves people, I still don't like every second person patting them. I wouldn't like to stop and say hello to every person I met, or shake their hand, etc. I'm sure the dogs probably get tired of it too. -

Yellow Ribbon - Give My Dog Space
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to skully's topic in General Dog Discussion
Would be a great idea, but I think you would probably have more people coming near your dog, asking what the ribbon was for. Simple of matter of making it publicly known I guess. A thing like this would be great for a dog like my sister's, Henry. He's not dog or people aggressive, but he is very nervous. When he goes out in public, some people just don't respect his space even when you tell them that he is shy. -
apparently it is a good source of energy for the dogs, and just gives them that bit more variation in the diet ?? I think they are suppose to have the raw, cold extracted one though.
-
Good for you! (or for your dog, I should say :D) I remember I was very panic-read book-calmed down again- then eek, panic again! when I first started doing raw. I re-read the book a lot, and ended up making a list of basic notes and pinning it to the fridge. I wrote down the things I knew I would forget, and it was great to have it in the beginning, to jog my memory and get me thinking of meals for the pups :) I wouldn't worry about egg whites, ours get eggs every second day and sometimes every day when we have an egg overload (we have our own hens), and it certainly does't worry them. The only thing I would add to the diet is seaweed or brewers yeast (as suggested in the book) :) The other thing I found (for me that was), was that in the beginning I was better off simply reading the book, and only the book, as I found too many different opinions and information sources conflicting and confusing for me. Now that we've been feeding raw for a while, and I am comfortable now with the diet and confident in that I am doing it the right way, so I don't mind reading how others do it. You'll learn to watch your dog and know what suits him. For instance, in the book it suggests that the raw meaty bones be about 60%. My sisters found that they had to adjust the percentage for their dogs. One dog needed for meat and bones to keep in good condition, whilst the other needs a much lower percentage to keep in shape.

Oh, lucky you! have with with her, they are the best! Photos as soon as you get them please!! :D One of my daughters is called Rilla. Her real name is actually Johanna, but when she was born the others couldn't say it and called her Gorilla (and sometime Goanna). Gorilla got shortened to Rilla for nicety's sake and now we use it all the time. That's such a funny story. I got Rilla's name from the book Rilla of Ingleside, which is part of the Anne of Green Gables set...her name in the book is short for Marilla. :) -

Definitely not to early -- I entered this thread before the breeders bitch had even come into season! (back in January some time) Waiting is hard, but it will be very worth it once you have your pup! By the way, pics are a must once the pups are born and you get the first ones ;) -
Whats Your Limit On The Number Of Dogs
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to whitka's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have one (puppy) atm, but am pretty sure that 2 would be a maximum, as I like taking them out and about with me, having a really good bond and being able to spend the time training. I hope to trial with Rilla, and think it would just be too hard to transport a lot of dogs, run them all at a trial and beforehand train them. I also like to have the time to give Rilla a daily brush to stop her hair falling out in the house :) -

You poor thing! Gee am I glad my waiting is over. I wasn't supposed to know until the last minute either, as I was getting a girl, but luckily Rilla was my fav, and wasn't as pretty as her sisters :p, so I was told a week early and got to pick her up one day early! Hopefully that'll be the case for you. Some more of miss Rilla. Her ears are starting to 'lift' -
For Those That Haven't Gone To Training Recently
Rilla-My-Rilla replied to Cosmolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is training near us, but it is an hour there, an hour back, and the classes don't start until 8 o'clock. It would be at least 10 o'clock before I got home, and that is up and down a range...I find it a real pity that there isn't something closer to me Maybe one day I'll have trained enough dogs well enough that I'll be able to start my own school :p
