DIY here as well, although I have always had strong communication with my vet and have always informed them of my intentions etc. -
What Is An Unpleasant Taste For Pups But Ok For Kids
catzatsea replied to frenzied1's topic in Puppy Chat
That was my suggestion as well, Vet has quite happily sent us home with some for Spud to use on his bandages when he happens to ignore everything else. -
Have a look through this thread. http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?...c=43479&hl=

K9 is actually a member of this forum, do a member search and you can read through some of his posts. No matter what your breed it is all relevant.

Need A Dry Food With No Chicken Or Pork
catzatsea replied to bowser's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We went through the elimination diet with Spud and tried The Eagle Pack Holistic Select out of fustration more then anything - well the good news is that he thrives off it. The bad news is we cannot vary his diet whatsoever otherwise we get vomitting and poops. -
Sa Boerboel Working Cattle
catzatsea replied to stumped's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks TonyMc - I have a great respect and admiration for the Boerboels and enjoyed watching the clips. I decided over two years ago that when we move out to acerage this will be the next breed of dog to join the family. -
Green liped sea mussel is also great for arthritic dogs. If your mum is in Sydney maybe refer her to www.naturalvet.com.au Barbara has actually written a book on natural alternatives which is very informative, you can also purchase chinese herbs etc from their surgery.

Premium Dog Foods...too Expensive!
catzatsea replied to Cassiepeia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Mel, where do you buy yours from? I buy from www.petdeli.com.au I might enquire about that VIP card. I buy from the Pet Depot in Leichhardt and they have the Frequent buyers card for EP. -
Have a look here Sas I am pretty certain Barbara can help you with what your looking for. http://www.naturalvet.com.au/ourpractice.html

Hi Piximatosis, www.naturalvet.com.au They have helped me more then I can say with spud and his laxated patellas...... They are located in Russell Lea and take their time to get to know the dog/ lifestyle and teach you suitable excercises etc. I have spud on two blends right now - both to help his joints and both are natural medicines. There are many other Dol'ers on here that can also vouch for them.

This was also a daily occurance for us, until we stopped the bones. It can happen that they get so obsessed about trying to get the the Marrow that they chew and chew the bone and swallow bits and pieces that dont seem to digest. No more bones, no more vomiting and our dogs are fed morning only.

Besides all the practical advise that you are getting here go and purchase the book " Marley and Me" it will definately give you and your brother a fantastic humorous insight into owning a lab.

Bilateral Luxating Patellas And Hip Dysplasia
catzatsea replied to mygirlruby's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have gone through this op now with two different dogs, my own (who had to go back for a second op also and a rescue) who came through with no issues and flying colours. I definately feel your worry and torment.... the only advice I can offer is when Ruby comes home, I wouldnt be walking her at all.... she will let you know when she is ready. Make sure you keep in constant communication with your vet and make sure you are honest if you feel he is asking too much of her (with exercise requirements etc). -
I too have used Satin Balls for a shiba that needed weight put on him. I feed them as snacks and treats, worked a treat!!
-
Oh Sas, I am so sorry! I know how much you wanted this!! Condolences to you, Mr Sas and Leila.

Other here as well....... Eagle Pack is the kibble of choice here.

Titres are tested via a blood test. The results are normally back within 4 days. However as FHR stated Adenovirus (aka Hepatitis) is done seperatley over Distemper or Parvovirus in Scotland via Perth. The different Vaccinations for Dogs are as below: C3 = Distemper/Parvovirus and Adenovirus C4 = Distemper/Parvovirus and Adenovirus + Parainfluenza(the viral component of Canine Cough ) C5 = Distemper/Parvovirus and Adenovirus + Parainfluenza +Bordatella bronchiseptica (bacterial component of the cough) Unfortunately I cannot reccommend one particular source for you to gather your information as it is still a reletive new concept however with the info of the fact sheet inconjuction with what FHR has already stated this should make sense.. Cheers Catz

That is correct FHR however after much discussion with my vet Dr Barbara Fougere (Bio available here) http://www.naturalvet.com.au/ourpractice.html there is adequate consistancy with the antibodies between Distemper/Parvovirus and Adenovirus to not need to send the Titre to Scotland. This consistancy has been proven over the 100's of Titres that she has sent and has given myself the confidence in knowing that he is covered. Winterpaws Dr Bill Wright has been reccommended by Barbara as a vet on the central coast who is open to Titre Testing. She asked if he needs any giudance to give her a call. They actually studied homeopathy together. Leema here is a fact sheet for you that may help you understand Titre testing and what it is all about. http://www.naturalvet.com.au/Fact%20Sheets/VACCINATIONs.doc Hope this is of help.

Canine Parvovirus and Canine Distemper.
-
Yeap Spud is done and Toby will be when he is due for next Vaccination. :D Spud is actually sitting on the top level of immunity as if he was just vaccinated - which after 15 months of his previous vaccination I thought that quite interesting. Winterpaws might be with giving All Natural Vet a call and ask them if they now of anyone on the central coast that supports Titre Testing. http://www.naturalvet.com.au/ O to answer the question with cost it was the same is a C5 booster however if it came back with Low immunity All Natural Vet Care would of Vaccinated for free. I have also confirmed with the boarding kennels we had the boys booked into for Feb and they are more then happy to take the Titre Certificate.

Arthitis In A 14 Yr Old Labrador
catzatsea replied to BABY & FRECKLES's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had Spud on cartrophen injections due to having two ops to mend a Luxated Patella, he also at 18 months has arthiritis on his hind hock joints. Through advice from my vet we have taken a Natural Alternative in Green Lipped Sea Mussel Tablets. Here is some info on the Green Lipped Sea Mussel, Fresh Mussel extract is a traditional food from the sea that is rich in glucosamines, chondroitins and marine lipids to benefit joint health and mobility. This Green Lipped Mussel Extract is from mussels grown in New Zealand's clean coastal waters as a valued food source. Mussels are grown and processed under strict government license to guarantee purity and potency levels. Our whole powdered Green Lipped Mussel is encapsulated in a laboratory that is licensed by the New Zealand Ministry of Health and the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. If you are looking for general overall maintence this may be a cost-effective alternative. We also have found acupunture very effective. -
