  1. LOL i think myMum is hooked after visiting the breeder she has never seen such loving and gentle dogs as these were tho i would like to know if anyone knows if there is an "online" recording of this "scream" so we can be prepared  Jen
  2. LOL the neighbour across the road from my mum has a parot/cocatoo of some sort that mimics (currently the phoe ringing CONSTANTLY) with luck the new dog will not do any out of the ordinary sounds for the bird to mimic!! I could see that being a major problem in the street. As it is the birds imitation of the phone for hours on end drives me batty and im only visiting!! Jen
  3. thanks Tollersowned have rung the breeder she is 10 minutes down the road will go out and have a visit on sunday so what is this about "the scream" do your dogs do it?? She said she had only ever heard a visiting stud dog do it and thought someone was being attacked?? thanks for everyones input :D it is good to hear from different people with different fav dogs Jen
  4. she is pretty fit and mostly agile I just wasnt sure she should go with a border collie we have been lucky with ours but we put a hell of a lot of work into them. she walks them occasionally when their dog was just too much for her (swapped with my husband) and she loved how easy it was to walk with them and how obedient they were (my 5 year old can walk them) they mostly ignore any other dogs which was a huge relief for her instead of being dragged across the loose gravel or tripped as the dog lunged to attack a passing dog It was a cattle dog cross she was just too strong when bent on getting at another dog. Mum could pull her up but on loose footing there was always the chance she might get off She had improved in class until last week in obedience then just went off and went after a couple of dogs you could hear her across the park Poor Mum is still in tears after all the stress the dog put her through she still had her sweet moments ... at home so preferably smaller than border collie but not too small
  5. sas, unfortunately that dog is quite similar to the dog in question Tollersowned any resources i can look up on tollers? i have found a few websites But i want her to be very sure before she gets another dog LOL i can loan her my dogs for walking!! are there any rescue groups in the Ballarat area? Jen
  6. Im trying to explain her away from the border collies she loves ours, she has a medium size yard and she does walk morning and night i just worry the BC might be too much energy for her to handle. the dog she had had been a RSPCA dog so she is resistant towards a rescue at this point.
  7. Sad story My Mum has had to have their dog put down, it was not really her dog my sister had just dumped it there 4 years ago and never bothered with it since then The dog had started going strange the last 2 years she suddenly attacked my dogs while on a vist to our place (never happened before and ended up really freaking my husbands dog out still working out reuslts of that!!) Mum has been walking her morning and night and has had a lot of trouble, dog was a cattledog cross that would lunge at passerbys and especially other dogs then whip around behind her pulling her ove. Mum has gone out of her way the last year to take her to obedience and private sessions with trainer (which had improved her but only at obedience not for normal walks) Tuesday night we had all been walking for about 30 mins just on the last 100 meters efore home when she suddnely turned on me (i was about 3 meters away) for no apparent reason and tried to attack me!! worst my 4 year old was right next to me and could have been hurt, she did the same thing to my sister wednesday so the decision was made:( What I am after is a breed of dog i can reccomend for Mum. NOT known for being aggressive Trainable & intelligent not too big would enjoy flyball agility and obedience (which is why im asking in this forum) Jen
  8. A new experience acn be stressful hopfully next time u will wizz through it (no wizzing for the dog tho) we went to Southern saturday and sucked royally  My boy stiffens up sometimes from an old injury (which apparently does not stop him racing around in agility!!) and missed the majority of his auto sits when normally he aces them but hey at least he didnt bit the judge like one of the others!! and he stayed up during the sit stays woo hoooo!!! although while the judge was talking and the assistant was collecting the leads for the sit stay he decided to lie down so i was not holding out much hope for the 60 seconds!!! but we had a good time anyway every one down there was really nice  and the puppy got the meet heaps of new dogs to play with
  9. Maybe the comand also needs to be in english so if you out of nerves give the wrong command the judge knows it is you that has stuffed up not the dog?? dunno if they penalise differently for that in the higher classes or not ?
  10. I had some excellent suggestions from agility trainer this week for our puppy, have two poles (like jump verticals without the bar between them) and lead the puppy from the outside through the poles teaching a "around" you start off close then gradually get back further so you are directing them with you hand signals and voice. i'm prolly not explaining it very well (lol he had to show me about 5 times!!) he had his dog doing figure eights around them then circles around the outsides of the poles just with his hand signals stuff he said he had taught his puppy from the start and around chairs and stuff while they were inside
  11. Dunno if it would work, but if she likes carrying things around in her mouth maybe give her a "clothes alternative" one of those cat climbers? the ones made up of strips of fleecy material (tracky dacks stuff)braided together or one like the fly ball guys use as a motivator sometimes? it is soft, has some weight to it AND you can use it as a pull toy even if it doesnt work! it would give her something to carry around and play with the only problem if you give it to her only before you go out it might be a signal you are leaving maybe just give it to her when the washing goes up :D Jen
  12. Yeah tidy up would be reat as until now the puppy has been all about taking all of my sons toys out and strewing them across the house!!! if i can teach the puppy this think maybe my son can be next!!!! Jen
  13. Naughty puppy has decided it is too cold and wet to go outside to the toilet grrrr he was doing so well our dam has turned into a huge lake the horses will have to swim from one paddock to the next soon!!
  14. LOL we are supposed to be doing agility training at vic park tonight .... lol but i cant find flippers or goggles to fit Sparty hehehehe Ack 3 wet dogs in the house!!!!!!! At least puppy preschool is inside tomorrow!!!
  15. Rhi, where do u go in alftreton on saturdays for agility? Helen I thought Bella was very lovely and Matt (??) cuz he looks like a border collie cross hehe im a bit biased im setting up some jumps & obstacles at home so I can practice sending them (sparty & Kira) out, Sparty did really well with the a frame and the see saw i could call it and he would race to them but the tunnels he had to think about so more training but it was lots of fun Im not in it to win or even qualify at present just to have fun and do stuff together lol when im fitter we can get a bit more serious
  16. tollersowned, they have a trial at frankston on the 16th of April come and have a look they have a weavers run there which should be fun to watch
  17. you can look at the web site NADAC touch and go has no jumps just contact items like dog walk and a frame and see saw and tunnels last night there was 7 different tunnels on the course a see saw and a Aframe you have to go around and back and thru and over so in total you had gone through 15 obstacles was a bit confusing but fun they also have jumpers and agility courses which seem to me to be a lot more fun & relaxed than the VCA trials I have seen also the jump hights are not as high and they have seperate divisions for juniors & vetrans (either the dog or the owner over a specific age) which have height allowances and some time allowances lol for the onset of age slowing us down in such a limited area with tunnel openings everywhere it is a challenge and a lot of fun (for the spectators) you have to be quick with your commands and have a good connection with your dog (which I totally lack i think) to be able to direct them to the right ones :D they use similare obstacles to the VCA agility if your dog knows them it wouldnt be too fazed by NADAC ones, my dog wasnt and he has only ever trained on VCA type ones
  18. LOL the only time I almost got lost was going back over the A-frame Number 9 , i was staggering in that direction anyway too many tunnels for my wheezy unfit asthmatic voice lol in training in november i was having major issues just getting him to go in one tunnel let alone the 11 last night!!!! Had a blast tho lol hubby was VERY upset as I had not called him and we didnt get home till 1.15am and he was sitting waiting for me and i didnt even stay for the novice jumping luckily Josh stood in for lead gathering on my behalf :D
  19. We came we saw we participated and we sucked royally but we had a great time touch and go was a blast although it looked very tunnelly!! lol between gasping for air and trying to get the word "TUNNEL" out I have decided to change my tunnel command to "IN" We did all the items up till the 13th when i couldnt get the word out properly but he was great on the see saw that a lot of dogs had issues with and on the A frame lol the only items i can send him forward on LOL im really pleased as it was november the last time he saw any proper equiptment so again it is me holding him back
  20. We have not tried jumping since the Chiro, He has more trouble in the cold (lol and we live in such a cold place...usually!!) He will be 7 end of next month so we are starting his career just in time to become a veteran!!! Which might be a good thing as the jump height come down for him so we will see if that helps  Rhi you are mistaken!! with Border collies you get brains and beauty all in one package
  21. Hi Slow one  maybe this link may help? http://www.dogs4sale.com.au/Obedience_Trials.htm we are doing Obedience trials with Sparty and Kira, gonna try agility NADAC style I think for Sparty and flyball if I ever have time. Our new puppy we are training in DONT eat my clothes, eating the crotch of underwear is a no-no 101 hehe
  22. Hi I'm looking at feedback about doing agility at Bannockburn with NADAC? We are thinking of trying it, going to look this weekend and maybe enter for the 29th of Jan. This is the first time we will have tried agility trials, we are doing pretty good in Obedience but Sparty is not a big fan of jumping over a certain hight (recent visit to the Doggie chiroprator might have helped tho) so we have not considered doing agility trials until I read about "Touch and go" and maybe Tunnellers  as he does love the contact obstacles. Jen
